1.
My class at school went to London to visit the Science Museum, about 1979. We went to see an exhibition by IBM about this thing called a "Micro Chip" (I still have the credit card size piece of plastic that held a micro chip with an IBM logo underneath, that was given out as a promo). Annnnnywaaay, we were allowed out to sight-see around Bond Street, as we were making our way to Harrods, a white Ford Escort was speeding up a side street towards us at the pavement on the main road, the car stopped and just touched a few of us. We all started to kick off untill we saw that it was Phil Lynott driving, at which point we all started to shout hi Phill, we love you and such like. My first time in London and nearly killed by Phil Lynott.
The places we meet people eh! What I didn't say in my original post was that I bumped into him in the toilet, although it was the corridor in and out so I wasn't tongue tied cos I had me old fella in my hand! He was with quiet intimate little group of people in the pub so it just didn't seem right to barge in looking for autographs etc......hindsight and all that!
 2. On this day 23 years ago(my god where has the time gone!) we lost possibly one of the most charismatic frontmen to walk the Earth. I only saw Lizzy once, this was on the Thunder and Lightning tour and although I didn't think it was as good a line up as the classic Live and Dangerous line up never the less it was a fantastic spectacle. I bumped into Phil in a pub in Mortlake some time after this.........you know I was just tongue tied, there was so much I wanted to say but I never got the chance, just hello Phil.....orrright was the reply, and that was it. Not long after, we lost him. RIP Phil..........long gone but never EVER forgotten!

 4.
I read a lot of good things about SX basses, but where do you get them from? It only looks like Rondo in the US from what I can see, I'd certainly be happier getting one closer to home.
I have a similar question, I'm looking for a cheap 5 string and SX comes up in a lot of threads but I wouldn't like to just order one sight unseen or played. Colin
 5. Bumpage for a few extra pics, a few scratches near the jack and some belt rash but the front of the bass is spotless.

Says its tuned up at the moment, will that need the neck adjusting if put back to normal 5 string tuning?
 7. Bass on the left in both pictures is my Westfield 5 string which is for sale. Cheap and cheerful, passive, 2 vol 1 tone, would suit a learner, someone thinking of trying 5 strings at low cost or for someone to noodle on. Played it with a band a while ago and it made an acceptable noise so gig worthy it is. Has a very fresh set of strings on it. It's a bit edgy here and there, knocks and scratches but is solid and pretty well set up. Will take some better pictures when I get home. Looking for no less than £60, collection only from Woking. Looking to fund some GAS
 8.
Superb i didnt realise bill bailey was so good on bass.
I'm the only bass player in the village!
 9.
I had a Shine 6 string for a while. It was cheap and worked OK, but not particularly well made or nice to play. It got moved on fairly quickly. I wouldn't recommend them. If you're in Woking it might be worth popping in to Andertons in Guildford before you make the trip to Denmark St, or at least give them a ring and see what they've got.
I'll have a look in Andertons, probably tomorrow. I was in London overnight anyway so it wasn't a special trip, and it *wasn't* a special trip as there was nothing to write home about up there. To be honest I wasn't expecting much for my paltry pile of cash but it was nice to have a look around. Normally I'm in my coach dodging traffic wardens so taking the bus was quite a laugh. Probably a case of saving up a bit more as Oldgit suggested and seeing if something comes up on here. Colin
 10.
PM on its way m8
Replied Oh you dark temptress of the night!!
 11. Might be a big ask this one. I have about £150 to spend and need an active five string. Where is the likely place up the smoke (well Denmark St area) where I'd have a chance of finding something(probably S/H for that money). I had a sniff at a Yammy on the forum but it was likely sold and I didn't have the asking price at the time anyway. What are these Staggs and Shines like? I hear so many different opinions. I'm not a pro but I have been used to some decent mid range gear in the past but money is tight at the moment so a reasonable-ish stepping stone is the compromise I'll have to make. Cheers Colin
 12.
Happy New Year Kol! Hope you are well m8! Basschat has helped me lose a few quid but have also sold some stuff so it has evened out really!
Hey there Thick Spliff, happy new year! Having had a break for a while with no gear at all, all I have got apart from my car boot sale cheapie 5 string has come from here. Not a great deal of money in the great scheme of things but all deals done at a fair price or better from a great bunch of lads! Cheers Kol
 13.
Here's a question for you - I was perfectly happy playing in my band with my Ibanez and Ashdown untill I found this site. I now have 3 basses, A load of FX and am currently trying to find the funds for another couple of basses that I want. I sincerely believe this wouldn't be the case if it wasn't for Basschat. Is basschat responsible for this? or is it normal for musicians to behave like this towards gear? (I was never like this when I played guitar) - I'm fairly sure basschat is a bad influence (in a good way of course )
Sue the bastids..........
 14. http://www.threechords.com/hammerhead/hotstepper.shtml I use Hotstepper, some good drum sounds on there especially if plugged into a good stereo or combo. You can set up and save a whole song or just loop a preset or composed beat.
 15. Can I nominate myself as the Fattest of Bastards and book a 5-6xl if they have enough material......alternatively maybe I can staple two 3xls together!!
 16. Anyone got an old full size keyboard stand they don't want. A friend needs one for home use. Can collect in Surrey or possibly West London/Chiswick/Hammersmith sort of area. Cheers Colin
 17.
Well then, let me remove my Pedant Of The Year badge and ram it up my arse where it belongs! I stand corrected
18.
Just to be a pedantic nob.. Wasn't Phil Lynott from the magical shores of The Republic of Ireland and therefore not British? (Politics and nationalism aside!). Totally agree with JJB though, how could he be missed off the list??
Phil was born in West Bromwich!!
 19.
As-new condition / free to a good home / collection from Chiswick (London W4). PM or call me on 07786 251295. Remember - a drummer is for life, not just for Xmas.
PM'D Can I have first dibs on this? Cheers Colin
 20.
Here's one to get you all going about weird guitarist stories. Some years back I depped on drums for a few mates who had a pub gig. I knew all the other band members and had been playing bass with the guitarist in a previous band. SH*T hot he was. Knowing that I'd be asked to do some BVs I took a head set radio mic with me as a boom stand and drumming doesn't really work for me. Bearing in mind that in the previous band, we were covering everything from Larry Carlton, Steely Dan, Focus, to Toto etc, I had no worries about the guitarist. The pub filled up and three numbers in, we got a request for Red house which I would have to sing so, turned on the mic. The guitarist asks what key? I say A as that's where I can sing it okay. He says, "I don't know it" I say "It's an easy one, just jam it" (Hence, all in together with no intro) We get to the solo and he looks at me and says "I don't know the break" I mouth (quietly) "i-m-p-r-o-v-i-s-e He says "But how does the break actually go?" I shout out through 800 watts, (forgetting about the mic) IT'S A FU**ING 12 bar you WAN*ER Pub went very quiet. We spoke about this after the gig and it turns out he can learn anything really hard, really easily, with tab or even music notation, but can't jam to a slow 12 bar in A WEIRD, maybe that's why he's a guitarist.
Sorry, I find the concept of a guitarist asking the drummer what key it's in makes me PMSL!!!
 21.
hi all in need of any ideas why our bass drum mic makes helicopter noise when we mic it up live. We have a quiet drummer who has to be put through our pa at even tiny pubs. The rest of the kit is ok but we get constant feedback off the bass drum anyone help cheers
Sounds like a case of good double bass pedal technique to me
 22. Well if this thread means actually buying a cd in a shop as opposed to downloading then it's Black Ice AC/DC for me, although I picked up Magnum-Wings of Heaven for a quid at a boot sale last weekend, probably about 50p too much!
