1. It's been a crap week work wise and personally for me at the moment but that's another story so when rehearsal came up last night I was a bit low but still looking forward to it. Over Xmas I got together (musically that is) with a young lady who has been gigging solo using the DAT tape type thing but not played in a band. She's got a cracking voice, well she's Welsh so that probably explains it. She put the feelers out for a guitarist and drummer and a few weeks ago we all got together. The drummer suggested a keyboard friend and last night he came along for the first time. All I can say is WOW how good was that. The music suddenly took on a new life and was fantastic. We are doing a sort of rock/pop type set but apart from 3-4 songs it's all new stuff for me so a bit of a challenge. Songs range from early Chicago, Heart, Prince,Joplin, Sam Brown,Stereophonics,Eurythmics,Gary Moore,Tom Petty,Fleetwood Mac and others but not all the tracks from these artists are the most well known, ie most people would do Walking by Gary Moore but we are doing Separate Ways. At the end of the night we were all buzzing and as said the keyboards really kicked it up the arse. It's looking like our first gig booked is at the beginning of May for a charity do so plenty of rehearsal time although I hope we can pick up more before then. From a personal point of view instrument wise I really got to give my SX Jazz 5 a good workout and it's a cracking bass for the money (cheers Crez5150). When I told the geetarist the price he nearly dropped his PRS! I also managed to pick up an old AXL chorus pedal cheap last week and that had a nice sound especially with my Jaydee fretless on Stereophonics Handbags and Gladrags. So all in all after a crappy week or so it's ended on a high. Cheers Colin
 2. All the best Nick......get back slapping soon! Klingon Kol
 3.
You can take it out of the circuit but you need to make sure you do it at the right place, which would normally be before the crossover to the tweeter. However, as long as there are no crossover components in parallel with the tweeter it would be safe to simply unplug one of the connections on your tweeter.
Sorted. Crossover on side of tweeter. Tweeter removed. No problem. To be honest I don't see what point they are in BASS cabs, as Bass_Ferret said in another thread "Are we paying extra for our cabs for a solution to a problem that does not really exist?"
 4. Last night was the first time I had cranked up my gear as listed below and found the horn in the 2x10 was cracking up sound wise. I imagine its a dry joint or something and will investigate later when I get home. Would I be able to cut it out completely as its not something I'm bothered about sound wise?
 5. Band I was in supported NBZ in Worcester Park a few years ago and Gerry was running late so they asked me to sound check with them. Got given his Stingray and as I played a few notes to get the feel of it I mistakenly slapped it a few times!! You would have thought I'd just farted in front of the Queen judging by the looks I got. Then came the shout "Oi nah!! We don't play none of that sh*t in here" Needless to say I felt a bit small and stayed well in the sidelines for most of the night apart from when we did our slot when I played a blinder, oh and no slap even though I was playing a Status2000!
 6.
Hi folks. Just a quick post/plug for a residential course I'll be teaching on in Llanelli, South Wales from 3-5 April this year. The main tutors are trumpeter Steve Waterman and sax player Alan Barnes as well as myself and local sax player Rob Marks. It'll be the 4th year I've done this course and it's always fun so if anyone fancies it, more info can be found HERE Cheers Alun
Seen Alan Barnes at the Bulls Head in Barnes several times.....monster sax!

 9.
I had the pleasure of buying Antonio's MM case. Great comms, delivered sharpish with no complications. Cheers man. Rich.
+1 to that fella! Thanks Antonio, Jazz bass case as described, delivered safely and very quickly. Colin
 10. Took a drive one night from Surrey to deepest darkest Essex to buy an SX Jazz five from this man. Was exactly as described, a fine bass indeed and a fine cup of coffee too! Buy with confidence, cheers Jay! Colin
 11.
Looks a nice bass to me but I'm suffering post Christmas bank blues and I live too far away. Have a bump on me anyway. Pete
Cheers mate, a friendly albeit a little skint bunch on here innit! Colin
 12. Just read an interesting post on the Level42 web digest about this bass. It appears was owned by one of the digesters who sold it on to some one else for 2.5k who in turn moved it on within a week. The OP says it is a dog of a bass with a bowed back neck despite a slack truss rod and that he had had the frets filed right down to get some relief. He also says it had a very thin tone and was no good for any kind of gig!! Don't know the validity of any of this, a pic of him playing the bass is included in the post. Interesting if this is true, looking at the bass it's a cracking piece of kit but appearances can be deceiving.
 13.
^_^ ..... how you getting on with the SX by the way?
Brilliant mate, not rehearsed it yet but cranked it up a few times at home and it goes well, plays far far better than the price would suggest! Now where's the bank's number, just need a fretted 4 to complete the set...... I always liked those 'bics and to be honest I preferred the sound to the Jaydee when Mark was using them. I remember seeing Grupo MarK King at the Jazz Cafe and sad pavement dwellers that we were we listened to the sound check. Mark was using something else(I won't say the make) and we were told he had a bit of a problem with different outputs on the two basses(might not be true but he had some kind of problem) so he went back to the Alembics for the night. Blew me away they did, I was right up the front in front of his rig and they where stunning! Also played one at the Bass Centre when it was in Wapping, went in looking for a cheap cab and the guy there let me have a go on one when I said I was a Level42 fan. Had about £200 for a cab and he lets me play a £5000+ bass just cos I'm a fan.....now that's what I call service! PS. Bank just phoned....suggested I sell me liver as it's well pickled and preserved! DOH!
 14.
Mmmm... I was looking at that...... may need to sell a kidney though....
What another one?

 16. Sorry to drag this thread up again but something occurred to me today. Martha Reeves and the Vandellas, Dancing in the Street came up on Radio 2 today and I had a good listen to the vocals. They are very flat, not in tone but as in almost monotone, hardly any change of note. Listening to her on Jools Holland it seems to me that older singers tend to over sing if you see what I mean, almost as if they feel they have something to prove and yet the original recording was just sung plainly with no over embellishment at all. And much better I must say. DJ Jeremy (smugger than Mr Smug from Smugsville on a particularly smug day) Vine reckoned it was the best performance on JH's Hootananay Hmm! Opinions are like a**holes.............everyone's got one!
 17.
Hi Nik, long time no speak, hope all is well with you. Tribal Planet went bust a while ago, I was trying to buy one of their bags. Don't know if they have started up again. Cheers Martin
There seems to be some stuff still out there with some dealers but the TP website seems very out of date so maybe they have gone. Does look a good option if I can source something.
 18. I got my Jaydee fretless a while back and it came in a old Ritter gig bag which it barely fits in.I've mailed a few people on Ebay selling cases and gigbags for the length and it seems that it's about an inch too long for most of them! I've just got an SX Jazz5 which can go in the Ritter but can anyone point me in the direction of a company that would do a case/gigbag that me Jaydee would fit in. (at a reasonable price of course). Tis 47inches long BTW and most of the cases that have been quoted have been this internally which makes it a right queeze! Just an extra inch (fnar) would help!
 19.
someone in surrey should snap this up, cant go much wrong for that price
Cheers mate! Yup tis a steal, and does make an acceptable noise! Bumpalump!
 20. Lumpy bump! Spent money.....need to get some back or I'll get evicted!!
 21.
Ok the fretted one has now gone but the Fretless is still available £150 as new in box.
To meeeeeeeee!...........seriously buy this bass, it's a fricking steal! BTW, Jay is great guy to do business with and makes a wicked cup of coffee. Cheers Colin
 22. All sorted now thanks to crez5150(Jay). Took a trip over to his gaff in Essex this afternoon and grabbed an SX(from Essex)* 5 string jazzer off him. Not active but a fine sounding bass for the money and plenty of scope for upgrades although I may find when I'm out there it may not need it. He does have a SX fretless 5 as well which he may sell, give him a pm, grab a bargain!! *You see what I did there!!! Ok I admit I saw this Essex thing on T***b*ss!!
