  1. Any input much appreciated on this one folks... I am toying with the idea of adding a port to a sealed cab, mainly to get some more bottom-end but also as a bit of a learning project. I am modelling it in WinISD and can't seem to arrive at a port config that works. Can anyone help? Box size: 41 Litres Driver: 1 x 10inch SICA (I know, never going to sound huge... but it is what I have got to work with on this project). The puzzle: I set the port diameter at something sensible like 7.5cm which seems okay in that it will fit on the baffle, is about the diameter of a lot of other ports, and I can buy a ready made port of this diameter from Blue Aran. Doesn't strike me as an unusual choice. This all looks ok, WinISD tells me it should be a reasonable length to achieve the tuning I am modelling (for 45hz the 7.5cm port should be cut to 10.4cm). All good. The issue comes when I look at the air velocity charts for the port. It says air velocity down at the tuning frequency will be over 100ft per second with a 100w signal. That speed is more than twice what google tells me I should aim for. My questions: Am I missing or mis-understanding something? Probably. Is it a non issue because there is rarely much power in those low frequencies? What is normally done to resolve what looks to be a basic tension between the competing priorities of wanting a port of about this size (most cab designs don't permit enormous ports), of practical length (can't have one longer than the depth of the cab!) and with air velocity that doesn't get into 'chuffing' territory? For now I'll keep reading and modelling and trying to work it out. I am not going to reach for the hole-cutter and ask questions afterwards - as I have been known to do in previous 'projects'!. Thanks in advance, Doug.
  2. Mike recently bought an amp from me. 'Twas a smooth and easy transaction. You can be 100% confident in dealing with him.
  3. Barganacious price drop to £100 for the used one, £150 for the new one with Roqsolid cover. Any NE guys know of a local player in need of a rig?? They need to go.
  4. Shipping is probably in the region of £30 per cab in case anyone else is wondering ... that's just a guesstimate though.
  5. Selling a pair of Rumble V3 112 cabs. This has been a decision I've agonised over but they're definitely going now! They're great cabs, with eminence drivers and a fender tweeter. They're really nicely made with very strong bracing inside and are fully wadded / lined. One of them is used but has no signs of use. £150. The second one is new, still has the yellow Fender sticker and will come with a Roqsolid cover. £200. £300 if anyone wants to take the pair. Can deliver in the NE or can pack them up for a courier. Pics here are of 3 but only 2 are for sale.
  6. By 'one input' do you mean the head has one speakon connection on the back (output), which is the case on the head you mentioned? Don't let that sway your thinking. You can daisy chain cabs using the two sockets you'll find on the back of any cab. You aren't limited to a one cab solution ... Unless you want one of course! For what it is worth, my own take on this, especially where minimal weight is a "doctor's orders" kind of thing, is that I'd prefer to do two easy trips from the car than one awkward one. Larger cabs, including many 2x12s are great, and not always very heavy, but that doesn't make them easy to move from a car through doors, stairs and corners to your spot next to the drummer! Modular is the way. Good luck and good health Dave.
  7. Can I send you the bill for the amp I just bought @TheGreek ? Seems like it's the least you could do ... I clicked your link, and within minutes I'd found and bought a totally different amp on Gumtree. 🤦‍♂️
  8. Glad you got the stents before things got any worse dude. I'm about to list 2 Fender Rumble 112 cabs. They're light, good handles which make for an easy lift and they do go loud. Pm if interested and apologies if this is an infraction of any rules!
  9. Thanks @JohnDaBass. Yep it is a really good amp in lots of ways. Pictures as promised.
  10. After much to-ing and fro-ing I'm am now, officially, selling this amp. As much as I love it there is only so much space in the cupboard and something has to go. This is immaculate - good as new - condition and has been tested and found to be fully working and lovely sounding. You can find all the specs on line but in short it has: - 800w output with the flexibility of going down to 2ohms, meaning lots of cab options. -4 band eq - switchable drive - built in HPF - built in limiter (fender's tried and true delta comp ) - 3 'voice' options via buttons - very quiet fan - nice ins and outs with pre/ post DI, cab sim etc. Will come with owners manual and the fender bag. £300 plus postage. Will add some pictures tomorrow.
  11. no worries ... and no need to apologise mate, it's not like I'm paying you! Anything you can share - whenever you can - is appreciated.
  12. Thanks, this would be great. I'm trying to get my head around crossovers so would really appreciate seeing this.
  13. Very nice, but too large a box for me. Slightly off topic but does anyone know of a UK based cab Builder who would make a custom BFM cab or two? I know there's a guy listed on Bill's site but he doesn't seem to be active, on email at least.
  14. Not yet but am considering an airhead combo like yours @JohnDaBass, it's a great idea. Not sure about the crossover though. Would be interested to know what this one is doing and what scope there is to improve on it as I think Stevie suggested.
  15. phew! If they did anything useful my credit card might have been in trouble
  16. Hooked these up to test them out and can't part with them, they tick too many boxes. Reminds me that if I spent more time playing bass and less time online reading about it I'd be in much better place!
  17. Hi all, Looking to part with three of these lovely cabs as I can't see me using them. All in great condition - they're either entirely new or as good as new. Will upload pics soon. As others have said, these make great lightweight medium power cabs but as a trio make for a really versatile modular rig that can go very loud. My idea was to use one for rehearsals, two for most gigs and three for outdoor gigs (they're 8ohms each, so using three needs an amp that can go down to 2.7 ohms, or 2phms like the Rumble head) Rated at 250w RMS each. They have an Eminence 12 and a switchable tweeter. Black tolex, nice chrome corners, good handles and a smart vintage look. Each one weighs about 14kg I think. Price is £150 per cab. I can deliver them for petrol money within about an hours drive of Newcastle. Also, I am happy to play ball if you want to use a courier - but that would be the buyer's cost and responsibility. Images coming ASAP.
  18. Got sidetracked by the pickups ... Just noticed the fretboard!! Wow, that's a beaut, and fretless maple is surely a real rarity as noted by @PaulThePlug
  19. Thanks for the info @stereoplayer Not sure i follow what you mean about the screw on the bottom of the pickup ... how does that affect how they fit? Genuine question, I'm thinking of getting some, or at least a bridge one. Thanks, Doug.
  20. Very nice looking bass. Can I ask, what did you think of the Barden J pickup? Not heard one but I can see the benefits of a hum cancelling blade ... and it looks so cool too! Cheers, Doug.
  21. Thanks for the welcoming TB post @Ped. I'd add that compared to BC, Talkbass is a more global community ... so I'd also extend the welcome beyond "our American counterparts" to all bassists in need of shelter!
