very cool indeed. I love the actual board itself (wooden case with lifty-up bit) and noticed another post in this thread looks as if it uses a similar one. Would you mind sharing what it is?? I'm sure it is explained somewhere but I have managed to miss it. Thanks

Thanks Stevie. I'm tempted to ask why it is so component specific, but I guess it's because of how all the different properties of a cab design interact in reality 'on the bench' rather than in the software? The tailoring analogy is great. It is of course possible to buy a perfectly decent suit off the peg from M&S (dare I say Asda or is that a 'bodge' too far!?). I guess the difference is that making it bespoke means it is a perfect fit rather than 'good enough'. Cheers, I'm learning loads from this ... mainly about how much there is to learn

Is this a 2nd order LPF and 3rd order HPF design? Testing myself here... In case you haven't seen it, blue aran has a crossover configuration thing on their website. It is interesting and maybe even useful in this case.

Sorry to hear you are struggling @KbD. For what it is worth, I think a big part of the reason many of play is about identity. Do you think of yourself as a bass player? Or would you like to? Everything that comes with it - the sense of having an identity, membership of some kind of group (whether thats a band or a internet forum!) etc is important to lots of us. If you have that, or want it, keep playing. The good thing is that it is a very easy club to join and no one can kick you out. I spend more time reading about bloody speaker excursion than playing bass at the moment, but I still think of myself as a bass player and it is actually part of how I see myself. I have pretty crappy technique and a very bad ear but it doesn't mean I should quit. If you're not bothered about that - or just don't get what I mean - then maybe let your gut be your guide my friend. That said, I do believe there is something inherently beneficial about playing music os I'd say stick with it unless it is making you miserable. Learn a new line, or a new scale and you will soon get a little hit of dopamine Wishing you well, Doug

Making it so that the baffle can be swapped is a genius idea

hi, a while back I put a Groove Tubes valve / tube in my ABM head and it is brilliant. Clean glassy tubeness without much breakup. If I want to go the other way and get a really thick dirt sound, can anyone recommend a tube? Cheers, Doug

Moving at a snail's pace here... This 10cm port seems to be ideal: https://www.bluearan.co.uk/index.php?id=MON126660&browsemode=category Only issue is it needs a 103mm cut-out. My hole saw has a 100mm 'blade' but don't think i'd want to try to squeeze the tube in there. Is there a 103mm hole-saw anyone recommends for it?

Mint condition JBE pickup for a standard jazz bass neck position. Comes with box and wiring diagram. Price dropped to £50 It has dual rails rather than pole pieces meaning it is hum cancelling and cares not about your string spacing! £50 for one might seem a bit much but they are sold as a pair for £300. Please note this is neck position only - probably won't fit a PJ (although that depends on how yours was made!) or in bridge position on a Jazz.

It works as an 'event' - like the long jump. You've set a record of 7hrs until we get a longer one!

Some serious staying power! Nice to see some extreme endurance champions to counterbalance this morning's sprint

Hi folks, A bit of pure basschat geekery here. Look away if you're expecting anything useful or even musical... Think @warwickhunt and I may have set a record for the fastest sale. From me posting the advert to the item arriving in his hand it took 32 mins according to the forum clock. It was a totally genuine sale with no prior contact or other shenanigans. I confess to getting a kick out of it ...and was relieved that there were no speed cameras on the way 🤣 Happy to take a drug test if the moderators insist 🤣... can anyone beat our time, or claim another Olympian feat?

These are something of a rarity. They're active pickups with active eq switches mounted on them. They're from a locally made Jazz that I've played for about 20years. It got lots of complements, and they've worked flawlessly throughout that time but it's now time for a new home. They need a 9v battery to work (no passive option) and are a straight fit for standard jbass routing. £75 for the pair including UK postage.

These are dual coil, so noiseless, passive pickups. SD pitch them as classic sounding upgrades. Will come with the box and wiring diagram. One has been filed to create a channel for the wire, doesn't affect the operation of the pickup and can't be seen once it has been mounted. £105 for the set including UK postage.

Hi Phil, just a quick one to say thanks for the message above. I'm still in the planning rather than doing phase - this thread has been extremely helpful.

Hi Phil - any chance you could enlighten me on how you achieved this flat response down to about 55-60hz? And are these charts taking Xmax limitation into account? Thanks again, Doug.
