1. I once purchased a copy of a Ricky, Whose neck it transpired was quite sticky, It had oodles of charm, But it dug in my arm, I'm not sure why I bought that fake Ricky. I guess you could call me too picky, But I fell out of love with that Ricky, I thought to be bold, I should get that thing sold, But to shift it turned out rather tricky. I'd quite like to purchase a real one, I even pop in shops just to feel one, But thanks to John Hall, I can't sell mine at all, And the only choice left is to steal one. Don't worry I don't condone theft, But there aren't many avenues left, Whilst travelling home, I bought a Sousaphone, At least it's got plenty of heft.
2.
BBC at it's best... No sh*t Sherlock!
I'm outraged! Why have they not banned people from bringing in nuclear reactors, do they not realise how dangerous they can be?
3. Nobody ever seems to mention them in this sort of discussion, but I always think a Danelectro Longhorn would be good for youngsters. Short scale, very lightweight, cool funky looks and generally lovely to play.
4. They are fantastic basses. I have a tobacco burst one and it'll never leave me.
5. I think smell has a lot to do with it, if it smells good then it probably is. Appearance has to be fairly high on the list but I feel not as important as smell. Sorry, what's that? Oh, I thought you said "How food is appealing"
6. Not about your exact pedal but I use an X3 Live and used a compressor sim with the compression off but the gain turned up to get a boost. Does that make sense? I haven't explained it that well have I?
7.
Noel tapped into Britain's nostalgia for proper music like what the Beatles made. Like, exactly what the Beatles made hehe T
I always thought they were far more Slade than Beatles, but I suppose Slade weren't as cool a band to associate yourself with as The Beatles.
8. Yep, used it for a couple of rehearsals and a couple of gigs. I did away with the volume control as I've got one of them on my amp already, the HPF control seems to work backwards in that fully clockwise seems to be the least affected, and I leave it there, fullest sound and my speakers have stopped leaping around. If I turn the HPF control fully anti-clockwise the sound is very thin so I assume that's the most affected. It has really cleaned up the subsonic rumbles and made the whole band sound clearer although it seems to add almost a compressed sound to my bass, like a very sharp attack to the front of a note but that could be the sound of my playing but was disguised by all the low frequencies that are now gone.
9. Monsters of Rock 1995 Line-up Metallica, Slayer, Skid Row, Machine Head, Corrosion of Conformity, Therapy? Slash's Snakepit White Zombie Warrior Soul. I used to like the fact it was one day, one stage. You didn't have to rush from one stage to another trying to catch the bands you wanted to see. Not really fussed about festivals now, too much money, too much going on, not enough time to see it all, and far too mainstream of I'm honest.
10. Just watching it now. Whilst I can see the point of drum screens, and if it helps on stage sound levels, mic bleed, etc and makes for a better sound then fair play, I really think it looks odd, like the drummer is in the shower or something. Really good performance so far though
11. I've tried lots and jeep coming back to D'Addario, for the last couple of years I've had their half rounds (ENR72 50-105) on my two gigging basses. I can't get on with a light tension (bicker about that tension/compliance thing amongst yourselves please) and love the heavier feel and slightly dead round sound these have. I like played in rounds and these have that sound straight out the packet and stay that way for as long as you're happy to keep them on the bass.
12. I bought the Behringer pack of three, in a hard case with mic clips. They've been abused for years and still going strong and they've had their fair share of people think they were better than SM58's.
13. I'm such a dumbass sometimes, my excuse is that electricity is still a fairly new phenomenon down here in Cornwall, of course just check it with a meter, at least then I can bridge the right terminals as a temporary fix for this weekend and get a new switch. Thank you Bassbunny. And thanks for the contact info Molan, I thought about contacting PJB in the hope they might just send me the correct switch. As an aside, these amps are built well, the switch and wires are cable tied up, have a massive heatshrunk wrap over them, and then the whole thing cemented to the housing to stop it vibrating loose. Most amps I've poked around in, a switch like this has just been clipped in and the connectors pushed on. Thanks again.
14. Hello, my PJB Suitcase has been randomly turning itself off which I at first thought was a dodgy power lead, as if you wriggled it when it shut down it would turn back on again. It's very intermittent so was a bit difficult to diagnose but it seems to be the power switch, the switch is next to the power input and when wriggling the lead I must have been touching the switch. The last few times it's done it I have just very gently touched the switch and it's come back on again, the switch feels slightly stiff in one direction and doesn't have that positive click it should so I'm replacing it. This is where I could do with some confirmation from any electronics whizzes. The switch has four terminals so I assume it's a DPST switch? If I number the terminals 1-4 in a clockwise rotation 1 is red and goes to the voltage selecter, 2 is white and goes to the large transformer, 3 is black and goes to the power input, 4 is red and goes to the power input. Can I just get a standard DPST switch from Maplins and connect the terminals in the same order? My other problem is that I usually don't use the amp at gigs as I use our PA and monitors but I have a festival and a scooter rally to play this weekend and will need the amp as backline. I'd hoped it would just be a basic two terminal switch which I could bridge with a connector if I couldn't get a switch in time, can I still bridge this switch with two connectors, and if so is it 1&2 together and 3&4 together, or is it not that simple? Sorry for the rambling and thanks in advance for any advice.
15. Ha ha, you might have just hit upon a series of travel guides waiting to be written.
16.
The pub next door was Murphy Roadhouse but sadly is no more.
Has it shut down? We played at 'The March of the Mods' there a couple of months ago, seemed a nice little venue.
17. I've been getting up to speed with R. Dean Taylor's "There's a ghost in my house", Frankie Valli's "The night" and Dobie Gray's "Out on the floor". Not particularly taxing but great fun to get in to .
18. Mr. Postie Man brought me a present this morning I won't be able to try it until Thursday but from what I''ve read I should be a happy chappie. Thanks Dan
19. Just had an email from Dan, it's ready to post. Hopefully I'll be able to use it at next weekends gig.
20. Ah that's good then, it'll be here soon hopefully.
21. I use a Phil Jones Suitcase with the additional 4b cab. No it's not light, and no it's not a looker in everyone's eyes, but it just works for all my needs. Sound pretty damn good as well.
22. Yes, that's what I was told but I've just realised it's been five weeks, I'm sure it's fine, I'll give it a bit longer and then send an email if I haven't heard anything. Not massively worried, just want to try it out
23. Has anyone received their FDeck or heard from Dan?
24.
Ahhh! Takes me back! One of the first PA's a band I was in had those 'lovely' WEM PA cabinets:
I have a pair of H/H 4x12's in the shed that look just like those. They sound terrible
