1. I use a couple of Coda bows with my fiddles, they're great!!! Tom
2. Sorry to resurrect this old thread but have been looking into this recently - Any more feedback on the Pipeline system? Did you find a small preamp that works well?! Cheers, Tom
3. I'd like to try one of these on my viola...! Tom
4. Thanks all, it's really nice to be in touch with a few of you!!
5. Wow!! Michael, killer lineup you have yourself there......!! Not sure I can make it as I've got a brief gig at lunchtime too but I would love to hear you with Richard and the guys - any chance of a few reggae tunes?! There must be some BCers in Aylesbury who are up for this!!? Tell your drummers too, this will be a groove-masterclass...!!
6. Anyone else got the (dubious) pleasure of being at GuilFest at all this weekend!!?? Tom
7. Perhaps there is a problem with his PM...I never managed to get through to Crez about this and I've just had an email from someone trying to buy this from me, presumably on the assumption that I ended up with it!
8. ps afaik Laimis (Faithless on here) had it defretted...I was delighted to find it as a cheap 5str fretless is really hard to find! I really like it
9. Haha, well.......! Am proud to say I bought the Ibanez from BCer Faithless (who sent it over from Lithuania)..he had been using it in high C tuning, which was interesting, but I had BC's very own Mark Daniels give it a lovely setup and restring to play in low B tuning, sounds great!!
10. Hiya chaps..sorry for the delay replying Am sitting in the front of my transit, waiting for floor paint in the new garage to dry so we can unload first of many van loads of gear etc..!! Anyway, the viola seems to have piqued some interest, so here's some answers Most violins are (from low to high, in 5ths): GDAE. Violas are 'one string lower' (or each string is a 5th lower if you want to think like that): CGDA. Cellos fyi are an 8ve lower than a viola, so still: CGDA. Anything other than the above is arguably 'non standard' in the classical string family. Most '5 string fiddles' (most often electric) are violin scale length but encompass the extra low string of a viola: CGDAE My 5str is a little more unusual in that it's viola scale length, but has the extra high string of a violin (so again, CGDAE). Hope this helps, thanks for the interest!! I will organise pics sometime Please do talk bass with me also!!! Cheers, Tom
11. This is really worth a read, there are paper copies available and/or you can download the "Fair Play Guide"...the situation has got a lot more complicated in the last few years with the likes of Sonic Bids etc...anyway, check this out: http://www.musiciansunion.org.uk/news-events/2012/04/27/fair-play-a-guide-to-co-promotions-ticket-deals-and-live-opportunities-2/ Tom
12. Hello Basschat, Hope you're all well & sorry it has taken me so long -ummmm, literally years in fact, I am *so* ashamed- to properly introduce myself. I must be one of the most avid 'lurkers' on basschat!!! I've been living in Sussex for the last 3 years or so but am moving, tomorrow, in fact...to Maidstone in Kent. Mainly this is for better access to London and quicker motorway access for the rest of the country (I share a flat with my drummer). I won't give the full life story, but briefly..I'm a 26yr old audio engineer and musician...23 years of playing violin (something I still gig with - frequently it's a 5str viola now)...and, I think, about 6 years now playing bass guitar which has become my first love! I have quite a few basses, all cheap and cheerful, but well set up. Very happy to talk gear as I have in PM to many of you, both asking and advising. I'll try to get my act together and post a bit more as and when I have anything worth saying Moving house has given me a kick up the pants to say hi here as it would be ace to make some additional musical/work connections in and around Kent, social connections to fellow bassists are always good...and also I'm going to try and have a really thorough sort through some of my gear and may well be up for selling/trading quite a bit of stuff (some bass related, but mainly some bits of PA etc in fact...I have quite a large stock, some of which might be available quite cheaply). Anyhow, it'd be lovely to hear from some of you...I've tried to make it to a couple of bassdays etc and work always seems to get in the way, but it'll happen at some point...! Cheers Tom
13.
Not long now... must remember to get some cakes in Any preferencies ?
Hiya folks, I'm a bit of a lurker here on BC, I really must introduce myself properly (actually I'm quite an avid lurker)..but looks likely I can make it and will be nice to see a few of you in person! I can manage a fiver and a cake to share round! Don't have much by way of exciting gear to bring, but happy to offer advice on 'live sound' if anyone is in need of help. Also a chance I can kidnap one of my drummers with either a kit or percussion setup for a couple of hours, which could be fun if there's any jamming. In terms of instruments I might throw in the Paul Rose (Prosebass) prototype EUB-thing - which now sports a nice new bone saddle and sounds, imo, pretty awesome!! Cheers, Tom F
14. Hi all, I bought this new almost two years ago but have only used it for about a week's worth of recording (shortly after picked up some other convertors secondhand as I needed 16 channels, more mic pre's etc) and the rest of the time it has been kept safe in it's original box. Comes with original PSU (continental 2 pin, can easily find an adapter) & box. It has 8 ins on balanced jack, it outs on balanced jack, ADAT in and ADAT out. Two of the inputs have mic pre's which are very handy and clean sounding. Full spec etc here: www.marian.de/en/products/adcon These are retailing atm for £346 from Dolphin, £252 from Studiospares ... I think I paid about £300 from Thomann. Would like £200 + p&p. Alternatively can organise delivery/collection from Brighton area or London (perhaps elsewhere as I travel all over). Cash preferred but willing to consider a trade or trade plus some cash to me (for a cab, multi fx/preamp...let me know what you got). Best way to reach me is: [email protected] Cheers, Tom
15.
Come on someone - this is worth it for the analogue compressor alone! Just think, a digitally controlled instant recall analogue compressor, 'nuff said!
I've pm'd zephead as may be interested in this...but, surely the compressor onboard is fully digital? Anyone else have experience of this model? Time delay in patch switching doesn't bother me, I really want something (cheap!) I can programme to accommodate differing EQ, gain settings etc when swapping basses on a gig. Don't use much by way of fx even, it's more a programmable preamp/tuner I'm after, would be nice if the compressor was good and I'd have a clean boost set up etc. ON a bit of a tangent I was wondering what the current price of something like a bass POD xt Live is nowadays and most of the bass-specific floorboards seem to have disappeared from Thomann, DV etc ... anybody shed any light on this? Just checked Line 6 and it says discontinued...no sign of the Line 6 basses even listed on their site either... !? Cheers Tom
16. Off topic really, but just a quick plug... for those not going to the BassBash on 30th March, go see Richard Bona at the Jazz Cafe but if you're in the Brighton area and don't want to go into London, come see me playing with Musa Mboob and band Xam Xam at the Joogleberry Playhouse (ignore my clumsy bass playing, watch the percussion - really stunning!) 17. Please!! Surely loads of you guys know about this, can't somebody give me some info??? If there's already stuff on the forum or elsewhere on the web I'm happy to read up, just need to know where to look... Thanks
18. I'd like to go as I spend quite a lot of time close to there (in fact I'm abou 15mins walk away now...) but I can't make that day, hopefully they'll do it again! Tom
