1.
Hi mate, I'd vouch for a pair of Sennheiser HD 25 's if you can get the budget together. I own a pair and they've taken a bit of a beating but still work fine and also have the benefit of being able to replace all the parts individually (far as I know, certainly the wiring, earpieces etc). They sound excellent with a surprisingly good low end response for a pair of cans that price and also give a fairly flat response which is great for revealing things in a mix (or even in practising!). I'd back them no-end as the way forward in the price range. Don't get the 'sp' versions or whatever they are they're not spec'd quite the same and are slightly cheaper for reasons I can't remember right now, sorry!
I currently have a set of Senheisser hd 205 II, which are just not the thing for mixing at all (in fact they can be a bit pants when even just listening to certain types of music.). Any Sennheisers that I have tried so far I haven't been that happy with. They were fairly budget, and not at all for this task, but how do I know that it won't be the same old story?
 2. Ok, for certain reasons, I've decided to get headphones for mixing on. But, here's the tricky part, what do you lot reckon is the best I can get for the least amount of money? I don't want to throw loads of money in to it at this stage, but I reckon somewhere in the £100-£150 mark would be fine (wouldn't it?). Anyway, let me know your ideas. The first set my eyes were drawn to when I went on to Thomann was a set of AKG K-271 MkII. Any good?
 3.
Thank you for bringing that to my attention , but there was no need maybe that is what it needs , and we all want to see it move on , but if it is to be a BC Relay there are plenty of members who will join in when the time is right .
Of course! I was just wondering if Steven Clutton WAS actually a member on here, and not just some randomer from Facebook. Obviously it's hard to know everyone's first and last names, but the guy was interested, and if he's on here, and wants to have a go, we'll see if it can work out. He has a gig towards the end of the month I believe. Surely there must be somebody in the Derbyshire area that has a gig coming up and would like to do a good deed?
 4.
This is James's gig Milt
Yes, it is, but I was asked to help out. I wasn't searching really, Mr. Clutton said he was interested, and I was wondering if he was a member on here that we could contact. I don't know if you noticed, but there hasn't been much demand for it after Peter's gig, which is a shame. I want to get it to another gig, and if that means having to ask about a little bit, I will do that.
 5.
+1 !! ....looking for the next worthy participant to take up the baton !
Again, does anybody know who Steven Clutton is? He commented on our Facebook status. I think he's in Kent. My geography of English counties isn't good, but I might be right in thinking that isn't too close to Derbyshire?
 6.
Hey, "Quality newspapers" has nothing to do with my opinion of any publication, it's actually very precise - if perhaps jargon-like - term that denotes a certain group of newspapers, and is widely accepted and used in the field of media. Same for middle of the road and tabloid. Honest - look them up
Really? I know tabloid is one, for papers like The Sun, but I didn't know that middle of the road and Quality were actually denoting a specific format of newspaper! It seems quite basic, really. and derogatory, in certain terms. I propose - High brow, Low brow, and no brow to be the new classification of newspapers. Although, I won't put any of the papers into any categories yet
 7.
LOL Milt, "quality", "middle of the road" and "tabloid" are the latest bit of jargony definitions I've learned, don't shoot me down like that
Haha! I just think it's kind of shooting yourself in the foot if you said to a newspaper "Here's a story for you, check out this thread" and in that thread, you say something like "i'm not sending it to the really good newspapers, because I don't think they'll be interested" Never the less, it probably doesn't matter. I'll try not to overshadow Peter's and those who attended the open air concert's remarkable contribution.
 8.
This is all fantastic! And it's all happening as James, Milton and I have just decided to try and pitch the national press about the BC Bass Relay. Reaching the first fundraising milestone is the perfect opportunity. I have written a quite professional-looking (if I can say so!) press release which I'm going to email to the middle-of-the-road and tabloid newspapers - but not to the qualities, as I somehow don't think the Guardian, the Times and their like would have space for our story. I have embedded two photos in it, one of which I own, while the other belongs to the professional photographer who took it in Falkirk where the baton was signed by Rhino of Quo. I have asked the photographer for her permission to use the photo, but she is on holiday and hasn't read my email or my tweet to her, so that's basically what we are waiting for. Once that is cleared, it'll be all systems go, and we hope that at least one paper will take up the story. If that happened, the results could be awesome! I may also pitch the London Evening Standard and the Metro, but a national newspaper taking it up would be best
I think we should reserve judgement on the quality of the newspapers, in case they read through this thread, and take exception to it, and get a bit ratty. Unlikely to happen, but yeah, that's how my mind works!
 9.
Well, we raised a total of £338.96 ( including gift aid ) so really pleased. It was an orchestral concert at Haddon Hall, billed as Proms in the Gardens. The MC announced that normally I play Double Bass but for the next number I would be playing a special bass and introduced the BC Bass Relay. The orchestra played the Theme Tune to Rocky and we raised the money in 3 minutes that it took to play the piece ! Really fun as we used a coal bucket and anyone from the audience who wanted to donate had to rush up and put money in the pot whilst the song was playing ! Got good coverage on the local radio and will be on BBC radio Derby next week and in the papers ...just looking for the next BC'er now to come and take part. Sorry Jim ...looks like you are going to have to reset the target as we have now smashed the £1,000 mark !
Oh my goodness! Well done! Sounds like good fun too! If you get any pictures or a newspaper article, I'd sure like to see it! I recommend, for you Peter, to hop on over to the Facebook page, and let everyone know the good news!
 10.
A photo from May when the baton was used at a barn dance. The take-up so far has been a bit disappointing I think. Apart from Derbyshire, of course (God's own county). Maybe there's a lot of bulls**ters on this forum who gig a lot less than they pretend. Prove me wrong guys and raise some money for a great cause.
I actually think it's going fairly well. I think it would be tricky to get it around much faster than it is at the minute. It would need to be slick. We have interest on the Facebook page which never seems to transfer back onto the forum. Does anybody know who Steve Clutton is?
 11.
Is his name George?
Good one!
 12.
Obviously I'm not saying that I think we should sack the original and get the dep involved, I'm just confused that I prefer the playing of a technically inferior guitarist! Go figure! Truckstop
Technicality doesn't equate to musicality. I think there are some musicians who are incredibly technical, and still musically fantastic, and some who aren't, and vice versa. How much fun you have playing with someone is also pretty irrelevant to their level of technical ability. I have great fun playing with a guy who is leaps and bounds better than me at guitar. If you enjoy playing with somebody, you should play with them, because what are we doing playing an instrument if we can't at least enjoy it? Your regular guitarist sounds like a real purist, and I bet people love him, and that's what gets the gigs that you have. If you were incredibly unhappy in that situation, I would say to leave, but if you're happy enough, I really don't understand what you are really asking. Sounds like your band is a good little earner, and your guitarist knows what he's at. If you want to do something for fun, you could maybe phone the dep and set up a jam, and maybe something will come of that, and you can have your cake, and eat it too.
 13.
Well, tis the eve before my gig , bass is really got a funky tone looking forward to playing it and raising some funds for Cancer Research UK ...question is who will be next in the Bass Chat Relay? !!
We had an inquiry over Facebook for the 27th july in Kent, I think it was. That was from Steve Clutton.
 14.
Same here. But that was secondhand, I have no idea what it would have been new.
Yeah, same here.

 16.
... "mixes are never finished, only abandoned"
Ah ha!
 17. Shared onto out Twitter page. It's going well! Good luck on Saturday, Peter Proms in the Garden, eh? Sounds lovely! Very different from a Status Quo gig or pub covers gig. Let us know how it goes
 18. I think I'm pretty close to finishing mine, although that seems like one of those things you should never say Once I finish the drums, and get the levels set properly, I think that will be it done.
 19.
You are a very funny man Milty. You are wasted here with us normal people.
I think you mean Douglas, not me Nevertheless, thanks for the compliment *tips hat*
 20.
What..? The use of technology is cheating, I thought..! All those hours, spent scratching away over a parchment with my goose's quill were for nothing..? Fowl, I cry, fowl..! Whatever next..? We'll learn that some of the instruments heard were not really played, live, by the composer..? Shock, horror..! (Please excuse the tinge of jealously emanating from this open, honest, critique of your work... This is entirely your own fault for producing such immaculate production from a 'phone. Maybe it's time I updated mine..? )
Guys, should you tell him, or should I?
 21.
Thanks mate. Garage band. Thank you Spacechick.
It's sounding good mate! Going by the entries so far this month, I think it will be another close one!
 22. Falkirk? I heard that...
( don't say ' ...isn't that THE place where the sun don't shine!' ... otherwise Donny will be after ye !)
... it's.. er... A lovely place
 23.
I haven't listened to any of them yet - trying not to get swayed while sketching out the ingredients for this month's concoction (collaborating with RockfordStone - aka Rob). But judging by people's reactions we seem to be off to a good start.
Vote Milty I think I'll finish of my mix for the mix comp tomorrow and upload it. I don't think I have much left to do to it. I enjoyed making the composition though.
 24.
Ah that's not good mate
I'd rather it the leg than the wrist, Pete!
