1. And, congratulations to Lowdown!
2. Hey guys, the competition is closing in about 70 minutes, so if you want to vote, you best be quick! I want to give myself the best chance of winning. It would be so cool if I win, and you'd also be helping out a very underfunded school if I win, so what's not to like about that?
3.
Voted, toss up between two for me, but the slightly better drums (replaced to heck though they are, the treatment of the cymbals is really good on them too, but the replacement/enhancement has been very well executed IMO) of the one I eventually voted for won the argument. I preferred the other ones low end mind. Very fine efforts all around chaps!
Come on then, which 2 were they?
4.
Only 30 votes so far, is this a poor turnout? Not even one for me though..... Ouch. "The play was a great success but the audience was a disaster." lol. If only life was a simple as a witty quote.
Only getting 1 vote isn't very flattering either, I may tell you Well, OK, it is a bit flattering, but then you just get concerned that somebody has let the mental patients onto the computer again.
5. Ok, I've sent 3 sets of D'Addario's finest off to Peter to throw in to the bass case. Change the strings as and when it's needed, and if a string company jumps on board with us, any sets of strings left over can be donated to the "We Need Strings" charity! I wouldn't think there would be any pilfering going on, but if anyone thinks a set of strings has gone amiss, you should probably let one of us know, just so we know, and maybe there's a perfectly good reason for it too (also please post if you restring the bass).
6. Rise... RISE, you old thread. I resurrect you from the dead! And here's why - I always had intended to fix up this old guitar, but I never really had any need, so I never really did anything with it. But now I'm in the running to win a brand new Gould Les Paul, and I've decided that if I win it, it would be senseless for me to have 2 Les Pauls, so I'll do up the old one, and donate it to my old school. It's not worth a lot, and I'll learn a bit about fretwork, and they need the resources, so everyone's a winner (except the 3 other entrants into the competition...). Now, for me to win the competition, you need to help me. Click this link, and vote for me, number 3, than your work is done. The comp closes on Wednesday night, and I would like to win, for a lot of reason (some listed above), and I know you want to help me, so help me https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=299389053538274&set=a.137135916430256.40392.123954487748399&type=1&theater&notif_t=photo_comment_tagged Thanks! Expect an update on this guitar thread soon!
7.
Here we go again.
Yup, I staying well out of it this time around.
8.
Another quick clarification: we're meant to upload our entries in video format to something like YouTube? If so, that's fine by me. I'm just having a quick play with iMovie, getting my head around the techy side of this. So far so good
I don't claim to be an expert in iMovie, but I use it enough to know most things about it. If you have any questions, feel free to ask
9.
I am going to upgrade to Logic X. Guessing that the release of Logic X was imminent, I bought a copy of Logic 9 express for a silly price off Ebay in January, I figured thee was no point in spending £149 when by waiting a few months I could buy the latest version (for actually less than 9 was selling for then). Does anyone know what happens to everything I've composed using logic 9 express ? Should I delete Logic 9 express or will it disappear when I've downloaded Logic X ?
I believe you'll have 2 programmes - Logic 9 and Logic Pro X. You aren't upgrading your programme to Logic Pro X, just buying another programme, if you see what I mean? That's what I understand of it anyway. Also Logic Pro 9 is 32-bit I believe, and Logic Pro X is 64-bit only, so I don't think you can use them together, but I'm not sure.
10.
What book was that?
Mike Senior's Mixing Secrets for the Small Studio. It's on Amazon, and it's not too expensive either. Plus he has a big website that compliments the book.
11. I like this one. It's quite minimal a lot of the way through, but there are parts where there are a lot of backing vocals and little ambient sounds in the background. What do you guys think? https://soundcloud.com/wvmusic/heavy-love
12. Sorry, meant to say earlier, but I was talking to my mate earlier, and he said he thinks the tracks won't done in time for us to use, which is a shame. So should we be searching the library that we got "uncle dad" from in the last mix comp? I can have a listen through some of them in the next few days, if you want?
13.
I like the strings on it too! Maybe I've got cheap tastes
Maybe. It's not a bad thing! I wish less of my money went to things which don't make a whole load of difference! (I actually think they do make a difference, otherwise I wouldn't generally pick the more expensive products. Sometimes I pick cheaper ones over dearer ones if I think there's no difference.)
14.
Schools buy strings these days? My old school's instruments only got strings replaced if pupils changed them themselves.
Yup. My school did anyway. Instead of the strings being in wrapping, they were inside these weird CD cases. That's how cheap they were. Not even sealed, just thrown into a CD case. I saw one of the guitar teachers change them one time. They looked horrible. EDIT - Although I generally provided bass strings when I could. They ordered some D'Addario strings, and the order never arrived, and the supplier denied that they hadn't sent it, but they had charged for it. What a bunch of bastards, eh?
15.
Probably wouldn't matey. Had a look and I can't seem to find them. All I remember is they were unbranded and they cost about £7.
Probably the kind of things schools buy, given the kinds of budget they run their music departments on now!
16.
Pete, if I can find the strings on ebay again, I'll send you a link. You appear to be one of the few that likes them.
I probably wouldn't like them. My mum says that from the age I could talk, I always had expensive taste, and I suppose she's right
17. I HAVE STRINGS! Went to my local music shop this morning, and they had my order in. 3 Brand new sets of D'Addario strings to go along with the Relay bass! That should keep it going for a while! And if a string sponsor jumps on board, any extra strings can be sent off to the "We need strings" charity! HURRAY! Peter - Going to need your address so I can send the strings out
18. Not had a moment to even think about this yet. I honestly don't know if I can do it this month.
19. Mix 2 - First guess - Yours. Second guess - Discreet. If it's not yours, it's his, I reckon. If it's not yours, I have another one in mind which could be yours, but I reckon number 2 is yours.
20.
I guess it is , but then so are a few , maybe mine aswell , or maybe not
I scoffed "Listen to these ones, MINE is far superior to these!". Anonymous votes on anonymous mixes don't lie though (although I'm sure we could all pick out Skol's mix!).
21. Mine still only has 1 vote? It wasn't that bad, was it?
22. Wow, somebody voted for me! Thanks, whoever that was!
23. Anybody in Kent willing to collect it from Len?
24. Too right, I think the bass has had enough downtime lately. Let's get it back out there and earning money for the good cause!
25. I think it's a pretty tall order. I actually would have preferred 1 minute sections, as it allows more time for an actual song to form, but it's still a very difficult task. I will give it a go, but I make no promises. Although I am in the minority who have as much free time as we like
