1.
but what if we could somehow make money for the cause out of it being 'fixed'????
What are you thinking?
 2.
Funny you should say that but i've bought three basses on ebay that i went and picked up. Two of the sellers asked me to pay by paypal and only the other one was happy with cash. Paying by paypal does entitle you to their 'buyer protection' but i agree that if you're picking something up you don't need this. I also bought a bass recently very near where i live which i picked up and the buyer preferred paypal over cash!
Paypal is used because it's a safe form of payment. If I did a lot of stuff on eBay, or even just the odd "collection only" sale, I'd want to be paid by paypal too.
 3.
It's been played multiple times now?
Yes, it's been across most of England
 4.
Just leave it as it is , warts, missing frets and and all. Change strings as needs must , but don't bugger about with it any more!
Sure, but we need to make sure it's at least playable, don't we? It's seeing a fair bit of action, so I would imagine there's a fair bit of wear on the frets, which isn't ideal. If it needs it done, it needs it done, that's what I reckon.
 5.
Good evening, Milty... There's a bit of a clue in the term 'feedback'. The signal has to somehow be fed back to the source (the strings and p/u...) in order to re-excite them, and make the loop. The obvious first choice (maybe not feasible, I don't know...) would be to monitor the DAW output loud enough to get the guitar singing. Do you not have a guitar amp..? The signal could be fed into that, and turned up enough to get the effect desired. I know of no simulation which could give that effect without a physical, sonic loop being formed (others may, so hang on before blowing down the walls...). Why don't you do as everyone else does, and simply use a Hiwatt DR103 half-stack cranked..? Problem solved, no..?
Haha! I know what feedback technically is, I just want the sound of it. I don't care whether it's "true" feedback or not. Although maybe I could make the loop by sending it to a bus, with an amp sim, and sending it back to the original track? I'll have to experiment with that.
 6.
Where do you stop? New strings... New pickups... New bridge... New body... New paint job... New neck... New tuners...
Em, I think we stop at "new frets". It's something that needs done on every guitar or bass at some point. Painting the body wouldn't make any difference. The difference a bridge would make would be negligible, or even irrelevant, strings are going to get changed at some point (strings wear out), there's no need for new pickups, and as far as I'm aware, no need for a new neck or tuners.
 7. As the title says. I want to add a bit of a feedback effect to a certain part of a guitar track, but how do I do it? I've messed about with the "pedals" in Logic, and I can make it feedback, but only at the price of the sound of the track (far dirtier and overdriven than I would like). What would you guys do? Is it possible? It must be, right?
 8.
That's the equivalent of putting arms on the Venus De Milo!
Finishing off what somebody started?
 9. I've literally just bought some tools and am refretting my own guitar. If it goes well, and nobody local is willing to do the work on it, you could courier it to me, and I'd spend all the time necessary to do it right (completely free of charge, of course). Since I have a fair amount of time, it probably wouldn't take more than a few days (unless I needed to order something, but hopefully all ordering would be done and delivered before the bass even arrives with me, if that's the case!).
 10.
Yeah a '54 or so they said! Something a bit more legitimate though http://www.ebay.co.u...=item19e0bece65
99p!? BID PLACED! *crosses fingers*
 11. What was it?
 12.
LOL In other news, I tweeted Music Industry News (as myself, not as BC) and got them to send me a PDF of the pages where our Relay article appears. So, if someone would like a copy, just ask me and I'll forward it to you.
I'd love a copy, if you don't mind? I'm getting quite the little collection of memorabilia here
 13.
Have a listen to the finished version, weeks of work on that I promise.....
I'm sure there was! But you have the skills and knowledge to know what to do and how to do it, I struggle to get the basics right
 14. What an absolute pleasure this song is! Don't really need to mess about with "fixing" stuff on this one! Even just setting the levels right, it sounds good enough. I really don't know what I could do to make it much better, but I've added an amp sound to the bass, just to beef it up, compression on some tracks.
 15.
Not entirely true :-P as I'll have it down here with me next week.
ah, but it's in London right now, isn't it?
 16.
I reckon it's be great if Walman,or anyone else , in fact could gig with it sooner than later and keep the momentum going.where is the Purple One just now?
It's in London ATM. That's why there's so much going on with it
 17.
Good news. Must get over to the Just Giving page If it's back on the South Coast this w/e or next & free I have a couple of local gigs coming up, otherwise that's me for the year
Hopefully we can fit you in, although it's pretty busy the next couple of weeks, from what I can tell. PM James or Silvia, they know a lot more about what's going on at this point.
 18.
I would love all this to work out in such a way that James can make not just his meetup with Mark King and Andrew Levy (obviously), but also the one with Dave Swift and Guy Pratt in London. At the latter, you bet I'll be taking my usual billion photos and GBs of footage!
Ha! Great! And yes, James, you should definitely try to get to all of the meet ups!
This is all sounding really good! Remember, guys, we're only 6 months into this thing!
Indeed! But after the celebrity involvement, hopefully we can get a lot more publicity! Silvia, the offer is still there for me to try and get some contacts for the press for you, if you want?
 19. I'm a sleepy head, and just got around to this now - WOW! That's really great! Well done guys! If any of you can, try and get a short video with you and the celebs
 20.
The glue's on it's merry way
PMd
 21.
Len should be sending one of the handover.
Yup, already got it.
 22.
I messaged Facebook with a photo but whoever is the admin hasn't done anything with it although it's a fairly un-interesting photo of the bass set up next to my amp. I haven't got an easy way of hosting photos publicly set up. There was someone there taking good photos I just have to wait for them.
Theres a couple of photos that need posted. I'll do it today
 23.
Excellent ...! With all the hard work that everyone is doing and the help of guys like Lars ( hats off to you Lars ) the Relay will continue to go from strength to strength . Would be good to re-evaluate the target that is showing on Just Giving. It always better to be striving meet a target that isn't met rather than top up a target that has already been smashed !
Absolutely! I think it was discussed when we first beat the initial target (I believe it was you, Peter, who tipped it over the edge, no?), but James is the only one with the ability to change it. Don't know if he decided against it, or forgot, or was too busy to squeeze it in, but it would be good if we could say we were aiming to break the next barrier of £2000, based on how good the donations have been so far! Let's keep up the morale anyway! It's going well, I think. It had a bit of a rest, but it's going to see a lot of action soon hopefully
 24.
Hi, so I've been asked to provide a video for audition for different universities that I'm applying to and wondered how you guys capture your video and audio. At the moment I have recording equipment for sound but its just the video that I'm a little worried about. Do you just record yourself and then video edit the audio with the sound that has been recorded (I'll be using Logic Pro) any advice would be helpful pthanks
What I do is set everything up to record, and also set up my camera. I usually use the camera on my MacBook Pro to record video. Hit record in both at the same time (or as fast as you can) then record yourself playing. When you're done, stop the recording. Edit your track however you like in your DAW, and since you're using Logic Pro and Final Cut Pro, I think you can share it straight between the 2 from Logic. If you're using some other video editing software, just bounce your track as normal into your iTunes or somewhere where you can easily drag the track into your video software. Then it's just the matter of getting them to match together - If you can zoom in, it's easier! Also, if your camera has recorded an audio track, you might be able to line it up with what it recorded, then mute the camera's audio track.
