1. I only ever slap for fun, as yet have never needed to in a live situation. I do enjoy slapping and it's the thump bit that I found really foreign but I slowly got my brain into Love Games. Stuart Clayton Level 42 transcriptions set me on the right path that watching utube clips could never achieve. It's really all about keeping your right hand relaxed and then learning not to use it when you thump with your left. If you try and play Lessons in Love, which is a simple enough line without a relaxed right hand, I very much doubt if you will last as far as the vocal entry. Try slapping from the elbow and not from the wrist. Also I should mention that I play a V string so the wrap around approach is not possible for me, as far as Hot Water is concerned, I find that it is by no means Marks more difficult lines. And I am honestly not that good. A nice low action will help with the playing and a new set of strings will help with your tone.
2.
Wow havent you just got this off mojobass? Some of those are my pictures!!! Just to add this was mine to once upon a time Note i think its a 2008 model not 1998
Cheers for pointing out the my error in the date of manufacture, I knew it was 2008 but for some unknown reason I typed 1998 and failed to spot this. Thought the following maybe of interest. Until I owned a headless Status I had no idea how to tune or change strings. Here we see Mark King doing both on his Kingbass (about 1:40 into the clip), Not the same bass as mine but tuning and restringing is identical as it uses the same system on both. It is also possible to use single ball end strings but I never bother, as you can see the double ball end strings are really quick and easy to change. 3.
That's correct Tiger Bay, born and bred. Are you? Maybe I know you? Just had a tax bill this morning, so cash a bit tight at the moment. If bass still available at the end of the month I can buy it then. I can even pop through to Newport with the cash and collect the beauty
I am the youngest of five, my 3 sisters and brother were all born down the bay, but sadly not me. Just to be clear my asking price of £1200.00 is open to offers, I am more than happy to haggle.
4.
Wow! You do have some really nice basses. If you descide to sell the S2 I would be really interested. Love that colour.
Thank you docksboy (does that mean your from Tiger Bay?) You are not the first to show an interest in buying the S2. I will leave the post active for a few more days and then offer the S2 for sale. I intend to send the Classic V to Rob for a few alterations which means I shall have to hold on to the Stingray otherwise I will be without an instrument, when Rob returns my bass I will then offer the Stingray for sale. Note: A few may have noticed I have changed my Avatar. Had problems trying to get BC to except a new one so ended up with a Gravatar. This morning I discovered that if you register your email with them you can then choose your new avatar from you PC. This is all done through the Gravatar option when you try to change your profile image.
5. Just spotted your post so I know I am a tad late. I have a Status S2 Classic V string headless which you are more than welcome to have a play. Bass and I both reside in Newport. Have owned many a bass over the years and the S2 outshines them all. Far better than a the Wal, Warwick, Fender Jazz and Stingray V's I have owned. A huge palette of sounds available from the pick ups.
6. She is still an amazing bass. Would be 100% in new condition except for an idiot drummer. Bloody skin bashers. Reminds me of my favourite drummer gag,"what's got three legs and a c$nt? Answer "A drumstool"
7. I have an Ashdown Classic Klystron C210-H 500 combo (2x10" speakers plus horn) as new for sale. Have added heavy duty lockable casters, so amp really easy to move. Stock images but amp is identical. Link to a quick overview. http://www.musicplan...2x10-combo.html Comes with original cover and 4-way footswitch.. £[s]750.00[/s] £550.00
8.
MB1. Might be an idea to add some prices? ...As a guide Yes I know you want a trade! But people want to shower you with coin?
Now, that's the kinda golden showers I do like!
9. A Status S2 Classic 4 string headless 2008 model, two small knocks on edge of body other than that like new. With Hiscox/Status case. The colour is a one off. Pix don't do her justice. alder body...metallic blue finish....chrome hardware...19mm string spacing.... board 302.... There's not much that hasn't been written about an S2 and this is no exception to the rule. Not long bought bass and then got offered a residency, I will need a V string for the gig and I can't see me using the 4 string for at least 12 months, hence the reason for the sale. Plays and sounds exactly like my V string (except no B string). A huge palette of sounds from the pickups. Not at all a one trick pony, yes you can get to sound like Mark King, but there are so many more tones available here. I do slap, but only for fun so never need the Mark King tone. I am mainly required to play swing, jazz, R&B, Pop etc A Status is the only bass I have ever owned which will do all this, and also be soooo easy to play. Technical Stuff. Graphite bolt on neck. Monorail bridge. The 18v active circuit on the S2 is able to provide a huge range of tones. Master volume and pickup blend are standard, as on all Status basses, with the addition of both bass and treble, cut/boost plus a variable frequency midrange. This midrange control works in conjunction with the 3-position switch : In the centre position the midrange is 'flat' With the switch down the midrange is boosted With the switch up the midrange is cut The central tone pot alters the frequency, somewhat like a parametric, between 300Hz and 3KHz with a fixed boost and cut of approximately 6dB. I am looking for [s]£1200.00[/s] Price Drop £1100.00 Note: Was originally looking to trade, but have now decided to go for a neck replacement. Waiting to hear from Rob if this can be done. Nobody either read post or was simply not interested. So I have decided to sell the 4 string as I really need a V string. This is why I am asked about the Stingray plus why there is a couple of images of my S2 Classic. Maybe should have started a new thread?
10.
Got any pics? And what neck shape is it? The modern squarer one or the older rounder one?
Not sure to be honest, but it's a 2008 model if that helps. Will sort out pics if you are still interested, but you may have seen it advertised on BC, apart from a small knock on the edge of the bass, round by your elbow when playing, bass is in like new condition, it is a one off custom colour. Which cost an extra £450.00, why anybody would pay that I am uncertain. I would of course top up the trade with readies.
11. Bought Status S2 from Paul. Bass arrived well packed and exactly as described. Lovely bass, a joy to play. Cheers Paul
12. Sold Paul a bass pedal. Fast payment straight forward transaction. This is how all deals should be done. Cheers Paul
13. Wouldn't you Adam and Eve it. Bought an S2 4 string, really nice bass, but really wanted a Status with LED's. If it's still around as and when I move the S2 I would buy this. No help to you I know, just consider this a bump. Unless of course you would consider a trade?
14. Lovely bass. But, not enough strings plus one too many heads. Have a bump anyway. It's 2013.
15. If you are trying to play from ear Hats off to you mate. If you are a reader, I have a really good transcription. If you only read TAB, I would be happy to rewrite the chart with not only string and fret positions but with the fingering added as I would play it. It would take a while but more than happy to do. Played this when it first came out in !970 something. Had to play it numerous times since, so its kinda second nature. It's all about moving your left hound to the right position so that what follows has the least of left hand movement. Not got bass handy at the moment, but I think for the riff there are only 6 left hand moves.
16.
Sounds about right to me.
Sounds sh*te to me. Happy New Year.
