1. Samuel bought my EBS TremoLo. Super-prompt payment, excellent comms and a friendly guy to deal with - all the hallmarks of a top Basschatter. Thanks, Samuel, and enjoy the pedal!
  2.
Very well said. This might be slightly off topic, but, how does the Maruszczyk compare to your Sandberg in terms of build quality? I have a VM5 Supreme which I love. Going to order myself an Elwood 5L as a 30th birthday present. I don't doubt that it will be as good as the Sandberg, but thought I'd ask! Thanks.
I'll let you know when it turns up! I have a good while to wait, yet. But like you I am expecting quality to be more or less on a par with Sandberg, going by what I've seen and heard up to now. VM Supreme ... mmmmm ....
  3.
Speechless
Beautiful!
  4.
Just gonna leave this here. I am so happy with the look!
Killer! Good call to have a plain fretboard, too - super sleek and very cool. Congrats!
  5. Rob bought my TC Ditto X2. Prompt payment, great comms and a friendly guy - all great stuff. Cheers Rob!
  6.
Around ten years ago I had a custom bass made by Sandberg for around the same price of a Maruszczyk today. Sandberg then expanded and their prices are now over double for the same custom bass. I'm hoping Adrian does not get to popular and goes the same way as so many small bass companies. They expand, move to bigger factories, employ more people and prices go through the roof.
My experience is not quite the same as this. Last year I bought a Sandberg VM5, which was custom ordered to my exact spec from Bass Direct. It cost £1300. Right now I have an Elwood 5 on order, again custom spec. Cost is £1170. So, a bit cheaper, but not half the price of a Sandberg. Nor am I sure that Sandberg have moved premises or expanded their staff since they became popular - AFAIK they still employ only about 20 staff and operate out of the same workshop in northern Germany. Also bear in mind that they have to pay German wages to their staff, whereas Maruszczyks are made in Poland, where labour costs are a bit lower (but getting higher these days, too, and quite right too, as their craftsmanship certainly deserves it!). OK, Sandberg now also have the 'Electra' range, which is made somewhere in the far East, but I'd still say that they are 'keeping it real', if by that you mean that they are offering outstanding choice, value and quality for the prices that they charge. I think we are just lucky to have two such great bass builders to choose from!
  7. Alex bought my TC Electronic Corona chorus pedal. Excellent and friendly communications and prompt payment - just the job. Glad to hear you've already started playing with the Toneprint editor, Alex - have fun and enjoy! Thanks and all the best!
  8.
Thought I would write a little piece on Maruszczyk amps. https://www.youtube....h?v=rWS0Y3sPg2U The link shows a quick video of the features of this two channel amp in its combo form but you will get the idea of the features. I've been using Adrian's basses for a few years now and haven't really found an amp that I like. They are either to dirty and rough or detailed and sterile. Having recently sold my Tone hammer 350 after using a Taurus amp I thought I would give the Bass Tank a try. Even though it has two channels I will only use the Electric input as I don't play acoustic bass... yet. Currently I'm using it with a sh*tty Maplin speaker for home rehearsals and whatever the studio / rehearsal room has when I'm out of the house. It's an amazing amp with very flexible EQ ( I don't really use much ) and has a warm but detailed sound that I'm really liking. Adrian does not give any specs on his web site for the EQ points. At first this worried me but I soon just dialed in what I found pleasing to the ear and it was really that simple. I stopped worrying whether I needed a 200 hz cut or boost or will the 1khz range be to cutting. I just twiddled with my knobs ( oh ). They are very subtle and musical sounding. Can't even tell you if its class B or a Class D amp or whether it has a linear or switch mode power supply. Can tell you its 7kg and 400 watts into 4ohms..... Now I would love to get my hands on one of his speaker cabs.
Excellent review - many thanks!
  9. For me, maple on a Ray has nothing to do with sound - it's just an aesthetic choice. Dunno why, but I always think 'Ray = maple'. Sound-wise, I don't think there will be any real difference between rosewood or maple on a Ray, so just get what looks nice to you.
  10.
I would suggest you go for a single pick up 3 band 4 string Stingray with a maple board - for the simple reason that whichever one you get you'll be lusting after one of those. Does all the Musicman sounds, but the mid range control on the EQ helps a lot in rooms with dodgy acoustics or if the guitarist or keyboard player suddenly start playing in your sonic space. The high pass filter also cuts some of the nasty boomy bass sounds.
^^^This.^^^
  11. I would advise changing pups rather than pre in your situation. The Delano Sonar preamp has an active/passive push pull toggle (I think it will be on the volume pot on your bass) so you can run it totally passive - no need to swap it out.
  12. I’m downsizing my pedalboard, so up for very reluctant sale goes this wonderful EBS TremoLo pedal: This really is an amazing pedal - one of those rare bits of kit that genuinely inspires creativity and opens up new sonic avenues for the adventurous bass player. As well as the usual range of sine, square and sawtooth wave shapes to play with, this one also gives you a volume/filter switch, which is essentially a LPF option. ‘VOL’ applies the tremolo effect to your whole signal, whereas ‘FILT’ applies the modulation effect only to your higher frequencies, leaving the low end (and thus the overall integrity of your bass line) intact. This really is an outstandingly useful feature, and has to be heard to be fully appreciated. Oh and it can do stereo panning, which is really head spinning. Although primarily designed for bass, (hence the capital L in TremoLo), this pedal also gets rave reviews from guitarists, e.g.: http://www.guitarpla...lo-pedals/15042 The other thing to note about this pedal is that it really is built like a tank. If you are already familiar with EBS pedals you’ll know exactly what I mean. If not, prepare to revise your understanding of the phrase ‘build quality’. This is on another level altogether. Everything about this pedal oozes quality and solidity of construction. This one has velcro on the bottom, and some of the original spongy non-slip material on the bottom (which I could never see the point of anyway) has started to come off; otherwise, it’s in immaculate condition. Price: £95 posted in the UK. I’m also happy to ship internationally at additional cost, depending on where you are in the world. I don’t have the original packaging, but the pedal will come very securely packaged. “Any trades?” I’d be interested in trade or part-exchange deals involving the following, if in excellent condition: Lehle Little Dual Strymon Timeline TC Electronics RH750 TC Electronics RS210 No other trade offers, please. 13. I’m downsizing my pedalboard, so up for sale is this super-cool MXR Bass Envelope Filter pedal: You probably already know how good these little purple sparkly gizmos are, but if not, look no further than Ed Friedland’s excellent review video: This one has velcro on the bottom, and a very tiny chip in the paintwork at the top (above the ‘y’ in the ‘Dry’ knob label - see pics), hence the low asking price, but there are no other issues to report - works great, plays great, sounds great. I’ll be sad to see this one go as it really is HUGE fun to use, but needs must. Price: £75 posted in the UK. Also happy to ship internationally at additional cost, depending on where you are in the world. 15.
Oh dear, I appear to have killed the thread. Best try to revive it with some pics. Afraid I can't compete on the sofa front though. And while I'm here, does anyone know what gauge allen key you need to adjust the bridge? My smallest is too small and the next one up too big in both metric and imperial.
That is really, really nice. You picked up a mega bargain, there - congratulations!
  16. Nick bought my MTD KZ6 - super prompt payment and excellent and friendly comms throughout. Top bloke! 100% recommendation from me. Welcome to the wonderful world of sixers, Nick - enjoy!
  17.
Maruszczyk ??? buyout ??? ... is this speculation or based on fact ... do i need to go order one before they double in price to there actual value.
Yes, where did you hear this? Got a web link you can post here?
  18. The Tonehammer has a really lovely, mid-rangey, old-skool core tone - as others have said, if you're after a 'set and forget' vintage sound then you're golden. But if your sonic needs extend beyond that then you might find it too restricting. This was my experience with the TH500 - not versatile enough for me, and I got bored with it after a while.
  19. As Musicman20 says, only a Ray sounds like a Ray. But I would strongly advise you to try before you buy - the G string on the Ray 5 is REALLY close to the edge of the fretboard. It may not bother you, but I found it impossible to live with in the end. Which was a huge shame as I totally loved everything else about the one I bought. Swapped it for a Sandberg VM5 in the end; the sound is not quite as devastating (although still great in its own way) but playability is much better, for me at least.
