Lakland Darryl Jones 4 with Aeros in black - SOLD!
molan replied to molan's topic in Basses For Sale
That is stunning with the black guard. Would go nicely next to my Duck Dunn, but funds permit me from purchasing. Someone is gonna get a corker of a bass for a bargain price. Good luck with the sale.
So easy to swap pickguards around for quite a different look Hopefully priced to sell reasonably quickly! Quicker than quick - this bass is now sold and paid for already -
I think you probably know the answer to that question

This is the second of Marty Siggery's basses I've owned and I have to say that they are really well made and nicely finished. This one has a particularly nice flamed maple cap and a lovely flamed maple neck. Body is light weight alder and the board is rosewood. Pickups are Fender Custom Shop but I'm not sure which models, has a very punchy sound for a passive bass though. Bridge is Schaller & tuners are Hipshot. There's an obvious nod in the direction of the modern Sadowsky look to the body shape and headstock and logo design. Not suggesting this is an attempt to 'pass off' as a Sad, just mentioning this for reference to anyone who might be familiar with the design It's essentially a brand new bass, not a mark on it anywhere and, as far as I know, I'm the first owner having bought it direct from Marty himself. Only reason for selling is that I'm really trying to reduce the number of basses in the house before my wife discovers how many I actually have! Basically it's a very pretty bass in perfect condition for a fraction of the price you'd pay for something with this kind of flame on the top and a birdseye neck. It's not the easiest of basses to take a picture of because of the gloss finish over the flame - however Marty has a great flash movie of it on his site that really shows off how nice it is Here I've copied a few sample pics from his site below. I don't have a case for this at the moment but the price I've quoted will include either a hard case or a decent spec gig bag (whichever someone might prefer). Alternatively I'll reduce the price accordingly if someone wants to meet up or collect and doesn't require a case Happy to ship anywhere but looking for trades as I'm trying to cut the collection down, lol.

NOW SOLD Picked this up to use as my rehearsal bass but something else came up recently that I'd had my eyes on for while and I just couldn't resist it! I'm sure if you're reading this then you know all about the Lakland Skyline DJ4 so I won't go into lots of detail here (can supply if anyone wants more info of course). This particular one has the original Aero pickups as specified by Darryl Jones - personally I prefer these to either the Fralins that some have or the Lakland in-house models most new ones have but that's purely subjective. Pretty much every DJ I've played / heard has been really nice, can't fault the Lakland Skyline quality control system. It's been nicely set up with a low action and is really easy to play, medium weight & downsized J shape body make it great for longer rehearsals or gigs. One nice touch is that it comes with the original guard plus 2 Jeannie's options so you can play around with the look in a matter of minutes. It's currently wearing the red tort version, which I really like, but I've added pics with all three guards in place (the black and white are just laid over the red so might look slightly 'raised'). Since buying this I've also sourced a genuine Lakland hard case for it so I'll throw that in as part of the deal as well Overall in very good condition, few surface swirls here & there but the slight sparkle in the finish obscures these really. Couple of very small dings on the lower headstock at the rear but, again, hardly noticeable. Happy to ship anywhere but not looking for PX deals on this one as I really am trying to 'downsize' my collection and I've already got something new heading my way this week. . .

I tried a batch of the £100 and below pedals and settled on the MXR Auto Q. I also have an EBS IQ but I find it really needs 'pushing' to get it really working properly and I need to stick a volume boost or distortion pedal in front of it to make it squelch how I'd like. The MXR is relatively simple (I use the settings they give in their examples) and all I need to do is knock the output volume up a bit to compensate for some loss of lower bass 'oomph'. Could probably do with a compressor (which I have but don't use much) to tame the overall range I'm getting when using it.

Brilliant thanks for these guys I'm trying to avoid the lure of 'lounge jazz' at the moment

My band has had a couple of requests to play a 'quieter' set prior to our main set at larger function gigs. First thought was that we'd have a go at a selection of slower soul songs (main set is predominantly classic soul and disco). May not go totally unplugged but would definately try to use acoustic guitar and focus on our sax player more. We have both male and female vocals so can cover a fair range of material. To be honest I have a feeling this is likely to be very much in the background so won't be looking for big vocal masterclass kind of stuff. Anyway - if anyone has any thoughts about whether this might work as an idea and/or some song suggestions would be much appreciated

Here's one of my favourite 'grooves' - love the funky choppy guitar on this :

So this is a bit of a wrench but I'm determined to make the transition back to 4 strings only and that means this really needs to go Picked up relatively recently as part of a PX deal but I've been really putting off selling this as it's just sooo nice to play and has the added bonus of weighing next to nothing! It has an ash body with a maple neck and maple board and an absolutely beautiful trans black 'burst' finish over a very nice flamed top. There's a poly finish on the body and nito on the neck for a really nice feel. It has inset Dunlop straplocks which give nice 'smooth' lines when not on the strap. It's hard to explain just how nice the colour of this is as it changes under lights. One definite vote of confidence in the colour was from my wife who usually just says every bass I get looks like any other but this one actually made her stop in her tracks & comment on how nice it looked, lol. Big Single pickups and the usual volume, pan, treble, bass and Vintage Tone Control setup. Great range of tones from this modern Sadowsky setup - still able to nail that classic Sadowsky sound but less one dimensional than some older NYC Sads are (purely a personal view on this latter comment!). The thing that amazes me most is that my bathroom scales say it weighs only 7.4 lbs! Can't say these are 100% accurate but it's certainly the lightest 5 string I've ever played and I'm sure you could gig with it for hours and not notice the weight. It's in absolutely immaculate condition and still has the, virtually impossible to see, plastic guard over the area above the pickups Comes with one of the very nice Sadowsky branded soft/hard cases. One of these would cost around £3K new from Roger S and there would obviously be additional shipping and import costs on top of that. I've priced it at £2,200 which is a healthy discount off the UK price for what is a virtually new NYC Sadowsky. I would be willing to think about trades either for a really interesting 4 string (a similar NYC 4 would definitely grab my interest!) or something that would be easy to sell on like a US stock Fender, Lakland Skyline etc. Happy to ship anywhere really - approx insured price is probably around £35 for UK and £70 for mainland Europe (may be slightly higher than this to get full insurance cover). The best picture I have is the 'official' Sadowsky one as it's about the only one that does a decent job of showing the body colour.

Just realised we seem to have come this far and no Maze! Frankie live in LA:

Speaking of which - anyone watched the making of Songs in the Key of Life that's on rotation on Sky Arts at the moment? I thought I knew this album really well but it's full of stuff that I've never picked out in the mix, amazing stuff. Great to watch Stevie playing some of the funky bass parts with his left hand whilst playing key melody parts over the top Interesting to see Nate Watts too, couldn't work out what sort of bass he was playing though?

Opening bid from the school for hiring the main hall with a caretaker on hand is about £30 an hour. Sounds a bit steep to me?

I picked this up as part of a PX deal recently and, although it's great fun to play, it's really surplus to requirements at the moment so I really ought to sell it The regular specifications of the Artist includes a woven graphite through-neck with 24 frets, two Status soap-bar pickups, 2-band EQ with variable frequency midrange and cut/flat/boost switch and gold hardware. Individual mono-rail bridge / tuners are fitted and, in combination with a unique string retainer, both single and double-ball strings can be used. This particular model has the, very desirable, custom options of a lovely burr madrone top, a 32" scale (due to the innovative Status BendWell), some cool blue front leds an d16.5mm spacing (which means it's very fast to play). Both the BendWell and 16.5mm string spacing are exactly as requested by Mark King on all his instruments so this is the 'real deal' as far as an Artist spec bass is concerned Having said that the flexible eq gives lots of tonal options as well! The entire instrument is finished in high-gloss polyester lacquer and it has seen some wear on both the upper and lower body. These really don't show up from the front and the lower ding is barely noticeable (given its location). The rest of the bass is in great condition and obviously these lacquer marks don't effect playability or sound. Comes with a nice Status lightweight hard case. Price of one of these new with the custom options would be around the £2,800 mark but I've tried to allow for the lacquer damage by asking for less than half of the new price and listing at £1,300 I may consider trades for something that might be easy to sell on in the future such as stock US Fenders or Lakland Skylines etc. Happy to ship anywhere really - I'd estimate that fully insured shipping would be around £35 in the UK & £65 to mainland Europe if anyone wats me to check exact figures I'd be happy to do so. The previous listing has quite a few good quality photos so rather than duplicating everything please take a look HERE for more information. In the meantime I've added a different pic to whet your appetite
Hey Molan ! this one looks like one of the most promising so far. 1. It has the parking option 2. The flexibility offered by the use of more than one room 3. A stage for possible presentations etc Any poss. ideas on available dates in June please ? Watching with interest T
I'll badger my daughter to speak to the head tomorrow - do we prefer a Saturday or a Sunday?

After waiting for a while for a response I got a tentative 'yes' from my daughter's school in Friern Barnet as a possible location. It's about 10 minutes walk from Arnos Grove tube (Picc line), a few minutes off the north circ for driving and plenty of parking. Large school hall with a stage and other spaces we could use as well. Haven't got a price out of them yet but it's a decent North London option if that's of any interest.
