That's an Auralex Gramma Pad - the best thing I've ever bought apart from my amp, cabs and basses...
I have one of these as well. Works really well, especially on suspended wooden floors (like a stage). Really useful at home for practice as it stops some of the lower frequencies reverberating arounf the house through the floor
2.
Sounds good! I am the same...I find my tone goals are mellowing.
What started it for me was the lovely pre-amp in my old Alleva C which had a passive tone roll off alongside the active circuit (like a Sadowsky VTC I guess). I 'discovered' how nice it was to gently roll off the top end without losing the really nice core tone.
3. Bit of a long shot but if anyone is tempted by this and lives near Wolverhampton or Manchester then I'm heading up that way this weekend & could deliver for free Heading up the M40 past Birmingham today & then on to Wolverhampton. Up to Manchester on Sunday until Tuesday AM & staying in Salford area.

5. You know I really, really want to like BGM but I find it amazing that almost every single month I spot a glaring error. If I let so many copy mistakes go out in my job I would be bounced out the door very quickly. Interesting to see that Euphonic amps now have a 12 band graphic, a dual on-board compressor and valve drive option plus pre-shapes that can all be controlled by a footswitch. I bet Trace Elliot are checking their design patents already. . .
6.
Stunning looking bass. I remember seeing this when Marty had it for sale. Can you tell me the weight of this bass?
My digital bathroom scales are saying 7.8lbs. Can't vouch for this being 100% accurate but it'll be pretty close - it's definitely very lightweight
7. I've pulled the trigger on one of these as well - should arrive in time for a gig next week Loving the tone on the rehearsal too - I never use flats and have always favoured a very bright tone but I'm definitely mellowing these days. Thinks to self - you have two sets of flats stored away, get them back out & try them on something

1970 Ampeg SVT

Excellent! I have an early SVTII (non-pro) that's hardly ever been used & certainly never gigged. It's in for some valve testing as it has a small intermittent fault but should be home soon
9. Here's mine: and - if the bloody international money exchange people get the funds transferred sometime this century - then this should be heading my way pretty soon as well:

Looks fab - hope all those valves are working OK. I'd get them checked over before gigging with it though just in case
11.
Most interest coming from Euro country at the moment.
Blimey - even getting interest from Australia now!
12. I've played this - really nice bass & I just love the colour, looks even nicer in the flesh. Ady is a top man to deal with as well
13. Thanks for the bump Schnozz - I'm surprised this hasn't moved yet. The neck is seriously nice as it happens. The rear is a lovely tactile satin finish which I really like It really is like a brand new bass, not a single playing mark that I can see anywhere.
14.
Oh i like this...
Good album - I think this is my favourite track though
15.
Thats a real nice Jazz they are offering... is that an OHSC with it as well?
Good point - original case def worth quite a bit in overall valuation
16.
first saw them when i won tickets on Robbie Vincents big beat show, to see Anita....i was 19 i think....when i saw that concert i knew i would always love Soul and Gospel music... bass playing is fantastic, the band are just awsome, especially the organ player... and the harmonies...!..fills me with joy when i listen to this record..
I think I was at that gig - did you get George Duke in between Perri & Anita? We had front row seats (the stage was 'in the round') and at one point Anita came right over to the front & blew a kiss at me - I nearly fainted!
17.
Oh .....ive been offered this in a straight trade......what do you think?? i will be visiting them to play it of course... http://www.vintageandrareguitars.com/web/o...asses/item/6740
I like the white with maple neck & tort guard look Interesting that they call it a 'player's' bass - for some reason that makes me think it's not in as good condition as a 'collector's' bass? Could just be the old sceptic in me again! If the straight trade deal looks very favourable to their list price then that would raise a few doubts too. . .
18. Simply can't beat a Celinder in the 'super J' category (IMO). I have a J Update 4 & like it so much I've just bought another
19. Forgot to say Bub5, When I pick up my '78 you're more than welcome to try it out or borrow it for a bit
20. I paid about £1,450 for my '78 (imported from the USA). It has non-original pickups (fitted with Jason Lollars which I really like) and a re-fin in a nitro blue metallic. The finish looks great from a distance of 2-3 feet or more but up close you can see some flaws in the wood through the nitro. Neck pocket isn't great but it plays well & sounds very nice. I think all the pots and other hardware are original and came with original case. It's currently at the Gallery where Martin has stoned the frets & giving it a decent set up. Really looking forward to getting it back Anyway - just giving the details as an idea of relative prices. Mine was pretty fair price in the US but obviously shipping & duties have added a bit to the price. I was happy to pay this much because I loved the colour, lol. It had also been previously owned by a TB guy who seems to really know his stuff and he claimed it was a good player. To be honest I'm quite surprised that recognised dealer is selling as low as £1,199. I don't think I've seen a genuine late '70's at that sort of price in a dealer for a long time. I may just be an old sceptic but it sounds to me like they know it needs some work and/or there are more non-original parts than just the vol & tone controls?
21. I'm certainly here every day. Damn BlackBerry sometimes struggles with pages that have a lot of images on though & that slows me down a lot
22. I believe we currently have the Lion King's resident bass player here on the forum too. . .
23. I played in a classic soul band for a few years and really enjoyed it. I then moved and joined another band which also plays disco. I learnt the requisite songs for the audition (Disco Inferno & Hot Stuff I think) & was offered the gig. I then sat down & listened to the full disco part of the set and really thought I'd never want to play it as I simply didn't like many of the songs. The band convinced me to join and, lo & behold, I dicovered that the dynamics & challenge of playing disco were actually really good fun Boogie Oogie Oogie is now my favourite of the songs we do & I recently fought to kep it on the set list!
24. I once 'duetted' on bass with Pino, lol. I was trying out an amp at the Bass Centre in Wapping and, God knows why, I was playing the part from Wherever I Lay My Hat (Paul Young version). Next thing I knew I could hear someone soloing over the top of the stuff I was playing. First thought was that whoever it was had been 'showing off' a bit but his playing was seriously nice & sooo much better than mine. I stuck my head up over the wall of amps & cabs to see Pino sitting on the other side. We smiled at each other & nodded and I quickly ducked out of sight
25.
This is a good one; Jerry Preston with a BC Rich Wave bass in Maceo Parker's band.. See Here
This pops up just about every time someone gets a topic going about great funk playing - and none the worse for it either! I love the tone he gets from the BC Rich - I've seen Maceo a few times and he always plays this. However the bass nver sounds quite like this version. . .
