1.
A great man once said - "Theres no money above the fifth fret". Now, money or no money, I believe this is a more valid opinion than that of anyone who would actually play the 21st fret on a bass guitar.
Damn...that's why I'm always skint!!
2.
fair enough. But he put 21 frets on his guitars so why not his basses as what i'm thinking really.
Good question, I don't know the answer though...all I can think is maybe they were trying to keep it simple, basic. Less is more maybe, it's the reason I prefer Fender a simple basic design but at the same time having plenty of scope as an instrument.
3.
never said he was clueless, he'd have been dead a long time before 1991 if he was and tried to do what he did! i'm just saying he didn't really know all of a bassist's needs when he made the first electric bass guitars.
I don't suppose Leo thought that bass playing was going to spiral out of control Leo got it right, just my opinion
4. I almost had it too.
5. Is this any help? http://ishibashi.co.jp/webshop/guitar/fender-j/bs-index.htm I managed to order a bass Tuesday using this page, think I ended up clicking on Ishibashi web shop email link, it's a little confusing but when you get to speak to someone they're really helpful.
6. Fall for a Fender, can't beat the simplicity.
7.
God that was boring....but that Morales was cool in both. Yet more proof that the traditional position of Bass guitar is gladly dying.
But don't you think as a bass player you have to be able to hold it down before you can let it go?
8. Oh! you chucked an extra 20 quid on the fretless
9. Do you have a hard case for the Fretless?
10. They all sounded the same to me
11. Thing is...no matter what we say we all clicked the link, we just can't help ourselves
12. ADD REPLY, ATTACHMENT EDITOR, BROWSE, UPLOAD, THEN MANAGE CURRENT ATTACHMENTS....BINGO
13. I'm about to order a JB62-85FL Vintage White from Ishibashi, I'll post some info and pics when I've got it. By the way.....anyone know if the pick guards are like a vintage brown or vintage red? I'm like a kid at christmas....brown, please be brown!!!
14. I need it!!!!!!!!!!!!
15.
I have moved from guitar to playing bass for a year now using a friends 4 string Pre EB musicman, and have just got working with a band and are sorting out my own gear now...Ampeg SVT 2Pro plus there 4 x 10 PR Cab...now its time to move to getting a bass.I like the Stingray but have seen some Bases with a MM pickup plus a jazz type.....one that looked real good was the Clover xp 15. www.cloverbasses.com and others buy Lakland... .any views on the Clover would be welcome. The main Question is it better to stay on 4 string and soldier on or move to a 5 and go in at the deep end.....and what may sound a stupid question and having never played one ....advice any one
Just had a look at the Clover basses, they look great! I'm into the classic series, being a Fender Jazz fan How do you mean "soldier on" with a 4 string? I'd find it a battle if I added any more strings Just in case you haven't seen it, there's some Ampeg videos on here: http://www.bassplayer.tv/
16. I joined a rock covers band in September 07 and we did 24 gigs up until Boxing night, already got 40 dates for 08 starting 19th Jan, so I'm pretty pleased I got involved with these guys. In comparison...my original band only managed to work 3 times in about 18 months and that's mainly due to musicians coming and going, hopefully 08 will be a little better on the original side of things
17.
Yep I agree. Andy Rourke is one of the few basses who I can genuinely say made me pick up a bass (I tend to play bass for it's part in the music I love rather than for bass in itself, IYKWIM ) I'm glad you posted this - it motivated me to finally learn a Smiths line - been lost in it half the day!! (and got the first part of Headmaster Ritual down ). It also reminded me how rubbish the tabs you get online are..! Pluck Edit - I also agree with above comments about Madness bassist too - love the line to 'It must be love'.
Used to be into Madness in my early teens, great players!
18.
Been playing for a while now and I'm still staggered by Andy Rourke's lines from The Smiths...the guy is a legend. As someone once said, his songs sound like a whole different song going on withing a song.
I find that's the hardest thing to do...be melodic, compliment the song and the other instruments, being able to move around without distracting from the song is so difficult.
19. Yep! me too, girls names My Geddy was ( we parted a while ago ) called Dirty Tracey, My Fretless (USA Jazz) is called Morag, my other USA Jazz is simply called Black Jazz and I've yet to name my CIJ Fretless Jazz mainly because it's not being shipped until 7th Jan but I was thinking of something like.... Love you Long Time, for her (CIJ)
20. Wonder if they sound as bad as they look
21. Fender Jazz
22. A Tuning fork and an aluminium type case for all my leads and gig stuff Happy days
23. I think it's good people say what they mean on here, why not, what harm can it do in reality? I'm a pretty regular user and I don't think I've come across anything that's way too offensive and if I did, so what? change channels...no harm done BC is better than most forums, some forums have threads that haven't been used in ages, at this place there's generally always someone around to chip in,...... marvellous
24. Tell you what I'm gassing for bad....a Vintage 62 Fender Jazz, it's weird if I had the money I'd buy one straight away, last one I saw was $6500 but then I'd only be happy to spend up to £1000 on a new Fender Jazz. As for amps, I'm on my third, Peavey, Trace and at the moment Hartke ( in that order ) an amp is an amp to me I suppose, if it breaks down get it repaired, if it dies get another one, same goes for cabs. So for me it's basses all the way
25. Santa's been already? You must've been a good boy then!
