1. Christmas bump.
2. Hi guys. After some successful advice from a recent thread I made, I finally purchased an electric guitar! Although it wasn't the Pacifica I was enquiring about it was a Fret King 'Geoff Whitehorn' Signature that I nabbed for around the same price as a 112V. Anyway, I'm a huge fan of guys like Scott Devine who provide extremely detailed and insightful tution for bass videos that really cover a lot of bases when it comes to all genres of music and styles. I'm wondering if there are guys like him who provide good advice and direction for new electric guitar players in a similar way as I'm hankering to get some teaching under my belt.
3. Yes.
4. http://www.bassdirect.co.uk/bass_guitar_specialists/Mono_STRAPPS.html Mark provides the details here. Only linked it because I've been looking myself for a non-leather alternative that goes below 43". Only worry is that the GS1 is only 3 1/4" wide, whereas I'm used to a Neotech Neoprene strap that is 4" wide.
5. As lovely as your bass is, I'm definitely looking for a 5 string.
6. Same as Ped I think I'd never taken the time and money to have my bass properly set up and had always played with factory settings with only slight adjustments myself. Then I went to Joe in Birmingham and asked him to set it as low as possible and I was just blown away, it was like holding a brand new instrument. Now it's that low I don't think I'd ever go back to anything else...
7. As a young whippersnapper, I can't really see the appeal in vintage instruments . So see this post as simply a congratulations!
8. Price is £700 until the end of 2012.
9. Thanks, at least I know I won't be let down whichever guitar I buy. On a slightly unrelated note, I have a couple of guitars in mind and as I'm a beginner, I could do with some pointers! I have my eye on either the Pacifica 112V, Pacifica 120H or the Pacifica 212V. They all seem like good guitars of course, but I'm not sure whether the slight variations would make a difference.
10. The main ranges I'm curious about are the RGX and Pacifica's. I'm in a lucky position that I can get these at cost price and have wanted to purchase one (a guitar) for a long while. However as a total guitar noob, I have no idea if the Yamaha guitars are really as good as their bass counterparts. I know they're probably not bad but is there anything I should be looking for in terms of a 'bad guitar'?
11. Cheers. As you might be able to tell from the pics, the scratch in the finish is only seen in bright light. Normally it's not really noticeable.
12. Anything labeled as 'vintage' with a price to match. There are exceptions of course, but not many.
13. John Myung to a degree, although I've always been drawn to the bass in the songs that I listen to and that's always given me the drive to pick up the bass guitar until I did.
14.
G&L Tribute is 17mm, which is pretty close to what you're looking for.
Owned one of those and I loved the neck on them but the string spacing was definitely a factor in my decision to eventually sell it. I realise it's only small but I can definitely notice it.
Just had a look and they are not as easily available as they were are they? PMT have none at all in any stores and Guitar Guitar have one black one but I can't see which store it is at? I'm not far away (25 miles from B'ham) if you wanted to try mine, as you can see I have both a ceramic 2007 and an Alnico new spec one 2010
Shame I don't drive really..
15. My personal choice would be a Yamaha BB (because I like the sound and feel of them) or an Ibanez SR (a lot of choice even with a small budget and are extremely easy to play).

17.
One mm won't make any difference imo just get an mm sr5 you say nowhere near stocks ebmm but your avatar thing says birmingham?
Well I say that, but what I really mean is 'I've not seen any in the shops that I regularly visit'. If anyone knows of any stockists of Musicman basses in Birmingham then please let me know.
Failing that, Spector? Peavey? Warwick?
Spector 5 strings are hard to find to give them a try. And unfortunately the same case with Peavey and Warwick.
18.
Exactly! The bass I have with the widest spacing at the bridge also has the narrowest at the nut. Anyone looking at it purely from a bridge spacing PoV might be in for a bit of a shock when they actually played it. Therefore unless I'm supplying specifications for having a bass built I've stopped looking at the numbers and just go with how the bass feels when I play it.
Well that's certainly what I've done in the past. However, the basses that I'm really looking to try (5 string Spector's and 5 string Musicman's) aren't really stocked in any shops near me which is unfortunate. So I thought I'd turn to facts.
19. Having gotten very used to my Ibanez Prestige 5-string bass, I am now seeking a bass guitar of similar proportions or more specifically, 16.5mm string spacing. I've looked at most of the major brands and can only see Ibanez that do them with the string spacing like this. Does anyone else know of any other 5 string basses that have 16.5mm spacing? Thanks!
20. I know exactly what you mean. Their RBX 5 strings are quite lackluster, but the shop I work in primarily stocks Yamaha and so I can only vouch for their 5 strings and the 5 strings that I've played, but the 35" scale on the BB and TRB range really make a nice difference if you can get on with the extra inch. And of course, the BB is a great alternative to a Fender. I've also owned a G&L and Ibanez 5 string, the G&L being slightly cheaper, and they were both 34" scale and brilliant. If you're willing to buy used then you won't ever buy a bad 5 string with that budget, but it is hard to find the right one.
21. I'm the original owner of this bass and it certainly looks like it's been well looked after. Great bass is this one.
22. Don't know if this helps your hunt at all, but I work at a music shop and we recently got in a 5 string Yamaha BB. One word = wow.
23. Not strictly music related, but an independant company that go by the name of Jaben.net sell mainly 'audiophile' type gear from about £50 upwards. They're actually out in the far east but supply international shipping on all their goods. Anyway, I purchased a £61 pair of headphones off them and about a year later I was wearing them and running past the bed when the wire got caught and actually snagged an earphone clean off the wire! I e-mailed and asked them if there was anything I could do in terms of repair or replacement and offered to pay for a new pair if I had to, simply because I loved the sound of the earphones so much. They replied back with 'send us a photo and we'll send you a new pair free of charge'. I didn't really deserve them but who was I to argue. On the other end of the scale, I had to wait 6 months for PMT in Birmingham to give me store credit for a bass guitar that had an electrical fault. It was the third time it was getting sent away with the same fault and I was told 'Don't worry dude, three strikes and its out, we'll give you in store credit as soon as they sort it.' It was extremely long-winded as you can probably imagine, and I won't go into detail, but suffice to say that's the last thing I've ever purchased from them.
24. Don't think I need it but good luck to the 'winner'.
25. Hi everyone, I need some strap advice. I own a Neotech Mega Strap, which is super comfy, but unfortunately is just slightly too big for me at its shortest. I've looked around at a couple of the more similar strap in its price range but not many of them seem to go lower than 43" or are even adjustable at all so I was wondering if anyone could throw me some names to take a look at. Thanks.
