1. I think all effects are toys, aren't they? I mean, we don't really need them, we could do without. And just because something is cheap shouldn't mean it can't do it's job. There are plenty of very happy B3/MS60B owners here.
2.
Has anyone had any success getting close to the 'Hysteria' and/or 'Time is running out' sound with either the Zoom B3 or MS-60B. I am happy with the results I have with the Boss GT6B unit, but it is old and worn out now, so looking to replace it with just one unit with a small footprint
I've set up my B3 for Hysteria using the OverDrive. Settings are gain 45, tone 48, level 70, bal 20. I have a touch of comp after that. Played on a P bass with half wounds, and through my Streamliner. Sounds ok. The same settings should work fine on an MS60B too.
3. A lot of pedals (with varied prices) have been mentioned in this thread. Also in another recent thread - http://basschat.co.uk/topic/224730-cheap-gainod-pedal/ Go to You Tube and check out the reviews, that may help you make your mind up. Whatever you choose it will be an improvement on your Boss.
4. I've been in touch with Oleg, and he gave me this link for the CMOS Bass OD audio samples page. He says it's a 'modified Vintage Microtubes clone'. http://www.u-sound.net/basssamples.htm
5. Good man! If my history is anything to go by, it won't be the last time you experience this discount/debt thing. Enjoy your toys!
6. When I started clubbing it was at an underground rave here in london called Coalesce, a hard/funky house gathering. Most of the music was instrumental but featured loads of real bass. Awesome! What in introduction to dance music & quality DJ's. Especially under the influence of some top quality mind bending substances.
7.
There's a Demon King AND a Demon (smaller version) for sale over in the 'effects for sale' forum at the mo
+1 to that. I just got a used Demon (with 2nd gain) here a few weeks ago and I love it!
It is also a thing of beauty, hence the pic.
Damn, that's a nice looking pedal.
8. Another Boss clone is the GLX Bass OD, a lot less fizzy. They're really cheap. The TC Mojo has bass & treble EQ too, very handy. Re Sibobs suggestion of building a kit - there is a BYOC bass OD kit, around $80, that has bass & treble EQ and a wet/dry blend pot. I've just had a look at the Hardwire OD pedal mentioned above, and I might try one of them myself at some point.
9. IMO, the Boss ODB3 isn't crunchy, lots of high end fizz with that one. You could try a Muff. I have a TC Mojo and it's a really creamy overdrive, very valve like. They're about £80 new but worth looking for s/h. I got mine here on BC for £50. The Mooer Green Mile is aTube Screamer clone but does colour your tone, £60 new I think. You get what you pay for with the cheaper end of the effects market so it might be worth spending a little more, and, buy a used pedal. If you buy one s/h and find it's not for you you can sell it here and you won't end up too much out of pocket. Check out You Tube for lots of reviews on pedals too. Happy hunting.
10. The folks that make the 1Spot psu also make various adaptors to convert Boss power plugs to lots of other types. Google it and you may find what you're looking for, and they're cheap too.
11.
Here's my board as it stands at the moment. It's ever evolving, but I'm pretty happy with it at the moment.
I've only had my Demon for a few weeks, but it got a damn good go at tonight's gig and it rocks! More of the same tomorrow and I can't wait. What a pedal. Woot woot!!
12. Lol. I remember my first band too.........
13. I got turned on to these guys a couple of years ago by a singer I work with. Our 3 piece even gigged this tune. He nailed the rapping too. Great fun.
14.
Good job we don't have any grumpy old buggers on THIS forum.
Steady now, you don't want to start them off.......

One of the advantages of socketing is being able to easily mod the pedal. And I'd rather fit sockets than fry parts. Sounds like a no brainer to me. Thanks.
Get to it! Si
Lol, give me a chance! I've got to find my soldering iron, probably chuck it out and get a decent one, and buy a kit. Anyhow, this is going to be a January project. I'll have a lot of free time as the gig front is looking mighty lean at the moment. A couple of questions - I've been reading about solder. Is it possible to get hold of pure lead solder in the UK, as it melts at lower temps. I've read that it's banned now. Or am I stuck with lead/tin solder? And, is it worth getting sockets for IC's and transistors so I don't fry them with higher soldering temps if I have to use tin/lead solder. Maybe I'm getting ahead of myself here, but I've done a lot of reading today and they're the two main questions that have cropped up so far.

I'm not daunted by the wiring on this. I have already rewired a couple of my own basses, and although I'm new to building pedals, I like to think I'm technically minded enough to cope ok. Hopefully it won't be a one off thing either but I'll take it one project at a time. Thanks for the supportive replies - I'll let you know how it goes.

I'm thinking about starting building my own pedals in the new year. I've seen a BYOC bass overdrive http://buildyourownclone.com/bassfx/bassoverdrive.html and I'm wondering if anyone here has built one of these? The You Tube demo sounds ok. I love the blend feature, that's a must for me. Or, any suggestions for anything similar? Bearing in mind, this is my first attempt. Cheers.
20. Welcome Ed. I've enjoyed watching your vids for a while now. And please, don't stop showing me how I can keep spending too much of my gig money on nice gear.
21. Welcome Rik. Enjoy the banter here
look forward seeing you spending a fortune on the sales forums, like the rest of us!
Ah, so it's not just me spending too much here. I'm not alone, lol!
