1. My bass teacher told me about these last week. great to hear a review on them Can't afford to buy them yet though
2. I'm sorry, maybe it's just me but my good God that is a hideous colour bass!!!!!!!!! Bargain mind if it plays well
3. Great news Paul
4.
Well my mic didn't arrive at PMT so I've gone for some more movie dialogue samples which I think work. It needs a few more listens to see what needs tweaked but I like it so far.
Can't wait to hear it
5. If its any consolation, I often get asked about keys and chords by my guitarist!!! In fact, only last night I had a message from him looking for help to one of our tracks. He's a mighty fine guitarist too
6. I really enjoyed that.... I could have listened for longer
7. You lot are making me blush now!! Glad you think I could have some potential and are seeing past my flaws.... Means a lot xx Paul - does very much sound like a night out in Cardiff
8.
Just the seven, then...
That's only two more than me at the moment
9.
youre going to debut a new band at a local festival gig?
Yep.... It's either a brilliant idea or completely mental....can't decide which.... But it'll certainly be an experience We have the first slot on the Friday night, so if we stuff up there will be others behind us..... But in fairness, I hope we will go down well... Everyone is working hard
10. Hi Yolanda and welcome! As a female bassist myself I can say you have been a BIG inspiration to me You've also given me the confidence to try a little singing (my voice is rubbish, backing vocals only) whilst playing. The tutorial video that is on YouTube of you showing how to start doing this is amazing!! Really great to have you on board.....although be warned, there is a (I assume jealous) contingent on here that like to have a pop at talented pros like yourself!! Just don't take anything to heart Debs x
11.
Forget ACG or Fender, is that a Hotpoint I see in the background?
PMSL
12.
Tidy! The voice is the only thing that doesn't delivrr, mate. The composition is np worse than many we have put on here. We are all working to limitations so good on you for delivering.
Thanks Rob I'm pleased with my bass parts (standard and fretless solos) from a composition perspective. I think next time I enter, I may go for an instrumental..... As much for all your ears as anything else Thanks to everyone who gave me the push to "have a go"
13. OK, one terrified Debs here I'm loading it now for two reasons: 1. So its like taking a plaster off - get the pain over with! 2. If I don't upload it now, I'll spend all my time tinkering with it and have actual bass playing to practice! As well as being inspired by the picture supplied by Paul (which was fabulous BTW!), I also took some addition inspiration from Lord Sausage on Nige's thread about what he needs after a great gig. Lord Sausage told me about a cocktail - Drambuie and Tia Maria called a werewolf! After trying the cocktail I knew my inspiration would need to come from both sources!! So basschatters, please accept that I can't sing for toffee, have never used a DAW before and haven't composed anything since GCSE music some 23 years ago!! But here is "The Tale of the Wolf People".... this is the first time I have ever had butterflies in my stomach posting on the internet... its rather disconcerting https://soundcloud.com/space-chick/the-tale-of-the-wolf-people-v2
14. What's a shredder! *looks anxious*
15. I love Locked out of Heaven too Walman, that's one lovely sounding setlist there
16. That was always brewing Paul! never mind matey, onwards and upwards
17. I love Groove is in the Heart.... Simple bassline yet grooves like nobodys business Today, I haven't picked up my bass, but have been working in composition. This weekend I have to put some SERIOUS practice in..... Only three weeks tomorrow until my festival gig, and Ultimate Floyds first gig!!
18. The best bit of GCSE music was "Help. Side 1" *Thinks wistfully to the days when albums had sides* I think Revolver is a fantastic album.... The bassline on Taxman alone, worthy of greatness. However, I do think there may be some truth in what you say Nige. And certainly earlier Beatles tracks were more of a "formula" approach in my opinion which I think has influenced more modern pop. However, when you think of such things as Sgt Pepper and the Yellow Submarine soundtrack, I don't think there are many other artists which have tried to duplicate.... So I think the Beatles will always go down in history as greats of modern music. If you liked Revolver... Then I recommend Rubber Soul.... Hubby reckons that those two should have been a double album!! I think that in Britain you could get chased down with pitchforks for saying you don't like the Beatles.... I'd watch your back sweetheart
19.
There is a certain lady on BC who has rather a liking for a certain brand. She might be along to bit you in a minute, lol! (It's not me by the way. The reason I prefer my Fender P to my Ibanez is simply because it's got fewer knobs on. I'm a bit low tech)
You called? Yep, I'm an Ibanez whore me In fairness, I never set out to be, but I find they really suit me..... The slim neck, the shape, the balance, the amazing tone for a low price... All perfect for my girlie playing. I have 3 of them now So I don't think it's just a "boys and toys" thing
20. They are fab..... Didn't have an Ibanez fretless in (despite having one advertised on the web) so they defretted one for me at a bargain price The service is second to none and the guys are really friendly and helpful. I'll definitely return when I need another bass.
21. I'd forgotten about that advert The way I see it, I accept that I can't sing... I've got no disillusions that I have any vocal ability, and I have told you all that, so I'm being honest.... Not like I'm looking at entering Britains got Talent as a singer or anything... I'm just entering a friendly competition with other bassists and have no choice but to do an instrumental or have an attempt to relay my concept using my incredible substandard voice! When your two year old nephew tells you that you can't sing and thinks it a "Good idea that Auntie Deb plays the bass" you are under no misunderstanding about where any musical ability lies
22. Only just caught up with this thread. I think you have to do what feels right for you, and if it didn't sit right with you then you were right to step away. 25 songs for an audition is madness though!! Reminds me of an audition I had (where I stepped away and declined only to be told they werent going to give it to me anyway! LOL!), they sent me a setlist of 20 songs, asking me to learn the top 4. I learned them, had a quick look at another 2 for chords and went to the audition... We played the first 4, then they started throwing all the others from the set at me.... Without telling me keys and some I'd never even heard before!!!! Now, if I know a key and a rough idea of chord progressions I can tend to chuck something out, but they were expecting me to come up with the original basslines on songs I'd never heard... Arses!!! My Ultimate Floyd audition, I was asked to learn 5, I learned 7 and we clicked musically. The audition before that (where the band folded a few weeks after I joined) I learned 3 in 3 days and they were happy with that.
23. Love the title Mornats..... I suspect we may be approaching from a similar angle My main bassline is fairly simple, but I do include some additional fretless solos over the top (which may be over the top, but who cares! LOL!) Woke up this morning with an idea to lift the vocals (well, the best way would be getting someone who can actually sing to do them but hey ho!) so I am definitely going to re-record them and then remix it. I have sent my first draft to a few close friends and my bass teacher for comments..... I have had lovely feedback from one musician friend with some constructive feedback. My husband, however, being the honest soul that he is said....... "You can't sing, your singing is out of tune and you sound welshy.... Do you know I really don't like your singing voice. The mix is all over the place, it may sound better if you sort that out, but ultimately if you do, don't play it to me again as hearing it once was enough. It really is a depressing song you know. You aren't really going to enter it are you?" you sure you are ready for a female entry boys
24.
Go for it SpaceChick It'd be great to have you on board. Just bear in mind that it's highly addictive and you may have to develop a crack cocaine habit, or something similar, to wean you off it once started. Paul
Bloody hell Paul, you weren't lying were you I'm addicted already!! I have recorded all the parts, but may re-record some of the vocals.... Haven't decided yet!! I have had a lot of fun though, even though my song is quite "dark". I have learned soooo much yesterday and today.... I've never used a DAW before, so it's a steep learning curve. So, my fellow basschatters, I think you will be having an entry from a female this month In all honesty, I can't see me getting a single vote, but that's OK as there is some incredible talent on here (which I most certainly haven't developed.... Hopefully yet!). However, the doing is an accomplishment for me in itself, so happy days!
