    swirling is actually quite simple. Humbrol paints and a bucket of water are all you need...

    Sounds like a keyboard to me, but you could try a heavily compressed and gated fuzz sound. Maybe a Devi Cherry Pop, or a Wooly Mamooth. Actually, most of the Devi fuzzes will get you in the right ball park. For that sort of sound live, i use a Sinister Analog Soul Provider, which is just awesome.

    My guiarist has a Spider Valve, and I'm very impressed with it, it doesn't sound "fake" at all. I think if you set them up properly (i.e, at volume, inrehearsal, not at bedroom volumes in a bedroom...) then they can sound really good.
