1. I'd totally recommend iGig cases. They really are great. http://www.bassdirect.co.uk/bass_guitar_sp.../IGIG_Bags.html
2.
+1 Like many people I did the smiley or V-shaped EQ and changed it overnight and never changed back. More clarity at less volume!
I've always disliked the smiley EQ-I've always done the opposite and had a slight mid boost. I regularly change my tone depending on the situation, but not extremely-I've get the sound I want from a particular instrument, and then make slight tweaks. I't's mostly, for me,down to what technique I use.
3. I think he played the Ken Smith on the first Elektric Band album aswell. I love Patitucci's playing on both electric and Upright. I've got a DVD of the Akoustic Band at Montreal Jazz Festival, and he plays stunningly.I met him the other year aswell
4. I was checking this out last night- I think I want a new tuner
5.
Come on, you know you want it. I'm sure the Godfather would lend you the money.
Doubtful.................
6. I like the Sterling.......it just needs a black pickup cover instead of the white.
7. Like...... 8. This is just stunning....... http://www.fodera.com/tom_kennedy.html
9. The Bass Centre strikes again. That does pretty much suck for you though. You don't need long to figure out how to get a good sound out of the amp. It's a shame you didn't try these guys www.theacademyofsound.co.uk they've got great deals on Harke Hydrive gear.
10.
It is indeed Will Lee and he is doubling a synth bass part, which is testament to his brilliance because he is so in the pocket with it. Great playing.
Greg Phililinganes plays the part on synth as well,so I'm guessing that it was probably a written line.
11. Nerve are are sweet band-their 'Prohibited Beatz' album is great. Here's a cool vid from the recording of Justin Vasquez's album-again with JoJo Mayer on Drums. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Ah-jfIe87I
12. I think it's just a case of working on your thumb technique-after all it's only been a couple of weeks. You don't need to hit the string hard, but you need to do it hard enough so that the fundamental notes is clear. If you hit the string quite lightly you tend to get a effect the same as 'tapped' harmonics. It also helps if you hit the string right at the end of the fingerboard. It's difficult to explain in writing-try to find someone who can show you where you are going wrong.
13.
I say use the floating thumb technique mate, ESPECIALLY since its early on in your playing.. cause if you leave it late (almost 2 years late for me) its much harder to adapt back into your playing, cus for 3 years you wouldnt have done it. It will let you play lighter, and more defining - thus giving you a longer career (if thats what you choose to do) keep the thumb free. when playing the A, keep it on the E. when playing the D, keep it on the A. when playing the E, 'float' it.. will take off a lot of stress on your hand and make you sound better Imo.
Sounds like your using more of a movable anchor rather than a strict floating thumb. Also-I don't know if you can say that it'll give you a longer career-some guys have good long careers and anchor the thumb on the pickup all the time. To the OP-rather than looking for a 'fix-it' pedal,it is far better in the long run to spend time working on your technique. It'll do more for your playing than any pedal will.
14.
Protect Status Quo? Are they under threat of extinction?
Well, they are OBE's you know. (2 of them are anyway). Status QuO.B.E
15.
Yuck, just my oppinion, looks a bit like the guitar Alvin lee plays (AXIS i think?)
Albert Lee plays the 'Albert Lee' signature model -and the 'Big Al' is a bass version of the guitar-hence the similarities.
16.
Underrated- Paul Jackson. The bass line in Chameleon is not only one of the greatest of all time, but also one of the most recognisable intros to an album
Paul Jackson is great, but the Chameleon intro was Herbie on Synth. Paul Jackson plays a thing high up the neck, starting about 8 bars in.
17. But the bass in the vid is an '82 Fender Bullet-not Squier. The Squier Bullet came a couple of years later.
18. The Fender Bullet line of instruments were actually made in America between about '82 and 84', and production was moved to Japan in about '84-'85 and rebranded as the Squier Bullet. The early Japanese models had an SQ serial number. So,no there are no Squier JV series short scale basses.
19. On the subject of Wooten....As I've said before, you don't get to tour and record with guys like Mike Stern and Chick Corea if you don't have some serious groove going on. Unfortunately, once again, the technique is being noticed over the music. There is some great music and groove in his work with the Flecktones and on his solo albums-but not on youtube. I don't like all the chops video's that are all over the web,but I dig his playing when he's laying it down. I'd love to see the size of the sandwiches in that picnic basket.
20. As far as I'm aware there wasn't a short scale JV series Squier. I know that there was a '57 and '62 Precision and a '62 Jazz ,but I don't know of a short scale model.
21.
haha! i occasionally have band practices at the Rhythm Foundry! its a great place, i will be going into academy of sound though just to see what they have available and to see if i like any of them cheers!
Well, come by and say hi then.
22.
and this from the guy who thinks words for rhythms is childish. LMAO
In all fairness,it was during a rock gig, where the posing was as important as the playing. .....Then I grew up
23.
Underrated- Guigsy... honestly. Overrated- Tom Kennedy, the only gig I have ever fallen asleep during. Although in Kennedy's defence it was mostly the 15 minute Dave Weckl drum solos that did for me.
I'm sorry, but I'm not letting this one slip by without comment. As much as I love Jaco and Victor,I'm used to hearing them being slagged off-but Tom Kennedy??????? The guy is just an absolute monster player on both electric and upright. And as for Weckl- he's all kinds of awesome.
24. Guilty. I did it a few times with my Fender Jazz a few years ago. I don't do it anymore.
