1.
All my leads are still working,10 odd years later!, I just needed a longer one for larger stages. Ringing endorsement for Planet Waves right there.
That's good I had 3 Planet Waves cables and they all broke within a year.
 2. Picked up my copy today. I noticed the 'dust' thing in the reviews too. It's no big deal to give the bass a quick rub down, and not really worthy of a mention in the reviews. Good to see Tony Grey and especially Chris Wood featured, but I could do without another cover story on John Paul Jones.
 3. If we are talking Roscoes.............
 4.
I've heard this a number of times before and either I'm missing the point or it's a bit of an exaggeration. Put a bass on a strap, keep your thumb out of the way and fret a string. Can you do it without simply pushing the bass around your back? I certainly can't. Your thumb has to apply some pressure, it's just a case of minimising it. Just (!) - I have a habit of working up a death-like grip too.
Yeah I can take my thumb off the neck and still play comfortably.
 5. If your thumb is hurting it sounds to me like you could be gripping the neck too tightly. You shouldn't be applying much,if any, pressure with your left hand thumb. You should be able to release your thumb from the back of the neck and still be able to play the notes. I use my thumb mainly for 'balance' and as a pivot point, but I dont grip the neck at all.
 6.
Interesting... just to come back on a couple of comments, I am quite happy not to stand still - in fact it's hard for me not to wriggle about a bit! The thought of spending hours alone with our drummer fills me with dread - on a personal level, we are not a match made in heaven you might say...
You don't have to spend hours practising together to get a tight groove. If you work together regularly you get an idea of how each other plays, but when you play with someone new take a few bars to sit back and listen without playing.Listen to where they place the beat and the slight inflections in their hi-hats. Everyone has their own sense of groove,it's just a matter of listening and finding your place where you both meet.
 7.
+1s, also: String Cheese Incident, Phil Lesh and friends, Gov't Mule (with Allen Woody and Dave Schools esp), North Mississippi Allstars and Galactic. Phish are my faves too-actually they're my fave band in general........their live stuff is just brilliant.

 11.
I actually have a lead which says the same, is yours made by Planet Waves too? I never really pay attention to which end goes where, but I *think* the shielded end is for your guitar, and the other for the amp. Could be (and am probably) wrong though
Nope From the Planet Waves Website FAQ.......... Will plugging in one of your directional cables the wrong way harm equipment? No. While the ideal configuration for optimum shielding is achieved when the shielded end of the cable is connected to the amplifier, you will not harm your guitar, amplifier, or other equipment by running the cable the wrong way.
 12.
We need the Basschat award for 'Twat of all Twats'. Any suggestions?
Can I at least be shortlisted?
 13.
Look, you want to semi-secretly post a pic of a big titty lady
Wasn't there a thread dedicated to this particular actress a couple of weeks ago-with pics- that didn't cause any problems at all and just came to a natural conclusion?
 14.
That's your problem Pete. Your 1970s attitude appears to be immutable so there is no way we're ever going to come to a compromise on this. And don't give me this "disgusting" nonsense like you're an outraged-on-principle Daily Express reader who's mildly surprised at the price of cauliflower these days.
That's pretty harsh don't you think. With regards to this thread specifically,I don't think there was anything wrong,or worthy of any hassle. It's not like there has been anything offensive in this thread.
 15.
I've just had this from an admin. F*** me... Is this 2010 or 1910? For f***'s sake fellas, get a grip! I may as well get outta here!!! "A couple of topics were closed because of their content, a clear reminder was given - you chose to ignore that reminder by posting a link to a female with more than ample cleavage - another provocative post. I'm afraid you've provoked an offiicial warning. Any future similar posts will result in a sanction"
Really? For the pic of Christina????????
 16.
If they ever did a 5 string version of this I think I would pee my pants.
If they did a 5 string of that then I think I'd sh*t myself.
 17.
http://www.roscoeguitars.com/Endorsers/Allee_Futterer.jpg
How dare you post that pic of Allee................... .........this one is much better
 18. I think that perving at basses is very naughty and bass-ist and this thread should be closed at once. Three things- 1 Pete...Any excuse for christina eh? 2 How different are Pete and Sarah's choice of basses? 3 You are all wrong because this is,quite frankly, the best looking bass http://www.fodera.com/tom_kennedy.html
 19.
i drew a fingerboard and marked on the notes at each fret ,, then i stuck it above my bed
That's cool-but remember to write the notes out on the stave aswell. What I do with beginners is I write out the notes on a sheet of manuscript over 4 staves, using one stave per string. So for the E string I'll write from the open string chromatically up to the octave, with the note name written underneath. After I've done this for all the strings,it is easy to see where all of the notes lie on both the 'board and on paper, and where the notes cross over eg. E on the 2nd fret of the D string is the same as the 7th fret on the A,is the same as 12th fret E, and so on. This way,my students are learning both the notes placement on the 'board as well as basic reading skills from the very beginning, which makes it so much easier for us both.
 20. I don't mean to be a dick, but it's not a pre Gibson model if the serial number is 2008. Gibson owned Tobias basses started with number 1094. It is however a pre-Nashville model,so even though it was made by Mike Tobias and his crew,it was still under Gibson's ownership. Still it's a lovely bass.
 21. The 'massive' neck of the Ric shouldn't hinder you too much if you have your technique sorted out. From looking at your new pic, your left hand is still in a pretty awkward position which will be where the trouble will be coming from. Like I said earlier, try placing your thumb in the middle of the neck opposite your middle finger, but don't grip the neck. You should be able to finger the notes even if you lift your thumb off the back of the neck. It may feel unnatural at first, but it will be beneficial in the long run. As far as your right hand-are you plucking quite hard? Try to lighten up your picking and increase the volume on your amp. Also try not to rest your arm on the bass if you can help it,as it can restrict the blood flow to your hand.
 22. If you can sight read on piano, you can obviously read bass clef. Do you know where all of the notes are on the 'board? If so it'll make things so much easier. Try reading some of the bass parts to any of piano score that you've got and play them on the bass. You will have no choice but to read the notes. Alternatively, take some of the tabs that you use,and convert them into proper notation.
 23.
Good spot!
Thank you.
