1. I really dig the EMMA pedals. The DiscumBOBulator is a great envelope filter(auto way), and the ReezaFRATzitz is a seriously underrated overdrive/distortion.
 2. I've done a few gigs where I've dropped down either a tone or semitone (usually when it's a thrown together band without a strong singer).Other times I just use the Hipshot extender on my Jazz Bass. The one thing that really annoys me about drop tuning is when people still refer to the notes as though it was in standard tuning. If I'm in drop D the 3rd fret is an F not G.
 3. Just quickly......If you have a 4x10 you would be better off with the Great Gramma. My Bergantino overhung the standard Gramma.
 4. I bought a Great Gramma a a few months ago and haven't gigged without it since. It just helps to tighten up the sound and eliminates any 'boominess' while still retaining the low end. I love mine.
 5. First of all...half time, Saints 6-Colts 10 I wasn't blown away with The Who at half time, but Pino was playing an interesting bass. It appeared to be an unbranded (no name on the headstock-but probably Fender) Precision with a pair of humbuckers( I think they were chrome covered T-Bird pickups). It sounded really cool-nice and fat. Edit......Saints win 31-17
 6.
Yeah, the only thing I didn't like about my Squier Classic Jazz bass (which was awesome, despite the fact I didn't keep it long) was that the finger rest got in the way when slapping!
Why not just remove it then? It's only held on by a couple of screws.
 7.
Once upon a time, back in the days before slap and tap, most bass players plucked the strings with their thumb instead of their fingers. The 'rest' was fitted to anchor the finger ends, and so facilitate easier plucking. Or so I believe. Please correct me if I'm wrong.
That's it. The idea was to hook your fingers underneath it whilst plucking the strings with your thumb.
 8. Just as a matter of interest-now that you're sorted it probably doesn't matter. But....... That Levy's one is a pretty good price if you ask me-you are looking at more than that for a single Mono or iGig case. I used an inexpensive (£40) Peavey double bag for a while, and the some of the stitching came apart after a couple of weeks. It's still usable, and it's pretty decent, but some foam is showing through. If you prefer to use a gig bag over a hard case-as I do-It really is worth investing in a good quality, well padded one.
 9.
83 just doesn't seem to be a good year for basses.
I've got a really nice Squier SQ series Precision from '83.
It would be unforturnate if you were born before 1951 then lolz. Mind you, i doubt there would be much exciting from 1991 though. I might be interested in getting a nice peavey or something from that era maybe?
My Tobias Standard 6 is from '91-I think thats pretty exciting.
 10. Study bass is a good site. http://www.studybass.com/
 11. I'm not sure of the exact model but it's a Zeta Electric Upright . [Edit] .....Yes I am,I just saw more pics. Its a Zeta Crossover Bass
 12.
Hadrien Feraud.
Matt Garrison,Dominique Di Piazza,Janek Gwizdala....... There's nothing wrong with using that technique-just make sure you can use it whether you are playing on one string or crossing strings.
 13.
In my considerable experience, many are much worse - these are the cynical bastards who view young/originals bands as nothing but a meal ticket, willing to jump through any number of hoops just to get to play a gig. They'll expect you to provide gear, poster & advertise the gig (while still calling themselves "promoters"), bring an audience - often requiring you to agree to bring a minimum number of paying punters before they'll give you the gig. If they know you have contacts, expect to be asked to sort out & organise other bands for the bill - and then you can add ticket deals & pay-to-play to that equation. Calling them subhuman scum is being insulting to subhuman scum. J.
The thing(problem) is,there are many bands who will only be too happy to do all of this in the hope of gaining 'exposure' or to play a 'headlining' slot(which,at that level, really means that you will be on last and nothing more). The bands are just as much to blame in a lot of instances because they accept all of the bs and believe that this is how it works. If more bands were to go against the promoters and have the balls to say 'no' things would change.
 14.
I bought the Akai as soon as it came out. I'd been looking for a bass synth pedal for years, one that tracked well and sounded like a proper synth. I got it specifically for a funk band I was in at the time. It was perfect, and the fact you could store patches to memory was a huge bonus. The band split and I traded it in at my local shop for £50.
15. I sit to practise pretty much all the time-either in front of the computer if I have to learn any specific tunes,or with a music stand in front of me. My general set up is .... Bass into looper into amp. I very rarely use headphones.
 16. I went through a phase a few years back where I broke quite a few strings-mostly E (including a heavy gauge flatwound) and A strings, with a couple of low B's for good measure. All of them broke during loud Rock gig's where I was plucking too hard. All snapped while I was playing fingerstyle too.
 17. NIN? Why would I want their speakers when I could by a bass that belonged to Big Jon? http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=75582 Anyway....It's Eden Electronics, not David Eden
 18.
Why oh why did I have to be mates with Big Jim!
Because Big Jim is cool...... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SESy8ccN4kw
 19.
It really doesn't take a whole lot of effort/brains to look at the new prices and then figure out that you should probably list if for LESS than they sell for new. Also, how on earth is that colour any kind of burst? Once again, the human race continues to astound me.
But,you can't put a price on Big Jon's ownership-if anything it's much too cheap.
 20. As much as I love his playing,he does tend to rush a bit.
 21. I was going to say this....... http://www.ibanez.com/BassGuitars/Series-gvb Until I found out the price, then I quickly changed my mind.
 22. Yeah. I originally had 2 of them and when the 1st one stopped working I took it back to the shop and swapped it,but that one didn't last very long before it started going wrong. It's not like I abuse my cables either. After that I didn't trust them anymore, that's when I started to buy Spectraflex cables, and I've never had any trouble since.
 23.
he already gets lessons
Not from me though
 24.
Nowadays, I think it's hard not to buy anything blind, regardless of what instrument or equipment it is, or what price bracket it falls into. Due to lower overheads, the prices of internet music shops tend to be lower than their 'real world' counterparts, and this is obviously very hard to ignore. Although it's great to try something out first, there is a certain amount of guilt accumulated by testing something in a shop, then going away and buying it online. However, as great as the internet is for music shopping, its resources of reviews, sound clips and flash videos of musical equipment is also indespensible. Except from Harmony Central; there are many reviews along the lines of "This is the best bass in the world because so-and-so uses one and now I do too..."
I'm going to disagree here slightly. You can read every review of a product before purchasing it,and still be hugely disappointed when it arrives. 'One mans meat....' and all that. The same goes for trying something in a shop and then buying on line. The piece of gear that you loved in the shop is not the same one as you are going to own,so you are still buying 'blind'.If I try something in a shop that I want, chances are that that will be the one I buy. I've bought a couple of basses unseen and have been more than happy, but it could easily have gone the other way. The vast majority of my gear has been stuff that I've tried first-except for said basses (3 out of 21)and a few pedals. My amps were all tried before I bought, and the one's that I actually tried are the ones I took home. After I decided on the cabs,I tested them with a couple of heads with my Bass until I found a match that I liked.
 25.
haha still, its not like hes an exceptional bassist
Nothing to do with it. All it means is his parents got him a nice bass-the instrument used has no bearing on the ability of the player. Anyway,if he's not exceptional, tell him to come get some lessons-y'know,being as though you're in the area.
