  1. Someone at Ashdown Amps owns BA55 AMP
  2. "I keep mine covered up, and so should others"? "We all look down on each other's "? Etc etc.
  3. The correct answer is "lessons". I know, because I have read the rules of the Gear Abstinence Thread. Do I win a prize?
  4. https://www.packsend.co.uk/croydon/?utm_source=GMB&utm_medium=GoogleOrganic&utm_campaign=GMBCroydon Try this company. When I visited, they had an 8 foot tall 6 foot wide antique display cabinet, with glass panels, ready to be packed up and sent to the USA. And some paintings from some London auction houses, to be sent to the buyers, in Paris. These were already boxed, in custom made wooden crates. No idea what was in there, but it was 6 feet high and 10 feet wide and a foot deep. They offered to pack up my Arcam Alpha 9 amplifier too - in the end I just purchased two boxes from them. So, worth trying, I would say.
  5. Being driven by my daughter from my dad's house - she was picking up her spare kitchenware from there.
  6. I am already there..... "Do you have a bass guitar that is 58 years old, but lack the authentic longevity to play it? Then you need the Memory Aging Service. With it, you can: Forget whether you are playing the album or the live version of the song Struggle to recall if this band include all the key changes in Think! Be totally oblivious that you fitted, and engaged a Drop D tuner You have an old bass - now you can play it like an old man"
  7. For sale. Guitar, wooden. Usually in local Facebook groups, where the seller is genuinely clueless that the photo already told me that it was a guitar, and that 400 years of tradition and experience resulted in luthiers settling on wood (rather than stone, slate, metal, or animal bones).
  8. When I went to join the website about 5 years ago, I registered using my Hotmail email address. Basschat told me that I had already registered using that address, so I got the system to remind me of my username. Bass Dinger - who knew! Certainly not me... I suspect that I picked that name because at the time I had recently put a dent (a ding) in my then-new acoustic bass guitar. I wish that I had chosen something better. And it amuses me that @Bassfingeris only one letter different!
  9. Perfect - I will message @bartelby
  10. So, I happened to already have a Power Supply Unit with the right specification - one of those multi output devices that allow one to configure voltage and polarity. @sammybeewas right - the piano sounds are really nice. And the keyboard feels responsive. To my utter surprise, I was able to read the music to Bach's Prelude number 1, having last played keyboard music some 20 years ago (and never the left hand). All that bass clef reading payed off. For a permanent power supply solution, these guys will make one up for me. https://www.electronicmusicservices.co.uk Certainly, I have not found one that has all the right specifications and which is not a kit.
  11. Nothing available from Kurzweil, nor could they recommend anything. However, the manual tells me that the specification's are as follows: Electrical Requirements Input Voltage 12 Volts DC nominal, 16 volts maximum Current Consumption 0.5 Amp maximum From the manual, it is not clear which of the ring or the tip are positive or negative - two circles, the left with a circled +, and the right with a circled - I will grab a photo of the rear panel when I am home. Update: positive centre, negative ring. 5.5mm outer diameter, 2.5mm centre (according to the Web, and the chap from the distributor).
  12. Looks like I got the price wrong - it was £59.99 and not £80. And the power supply is missing - lost in the shop refurb. So, I have been given a £10 discount. Thank you, Cash Converters for a stage piano for the price of a Bontempi organ. Does anyone know where I can get a UK power adaptor for a Kurzweil SP76?
  13. I do like me a bit of nice recorder music - I find that I prefer the dry woody tone of the recorder to the saccharine sweet sound of a flute. Vivaldi composed a fair bit for the instrument - ironic, given that he was employed by a school as their music teacher. How did schools get from Vivaldi writing virtuoso ensemble pieces for orchestra and recorder, and children playing London's Burning.
  14. This thread here, along with this here convinced me that the one that I spotted is worth a try. Of course, I have no space for it, but it feels like the right time and the right instrument at the right price. I am tempted to link it up to a DX11 that was gifted to me - just so that I can pretend to be Jean Michael Jarre for a couple of hours....
  15. I was once offered a roundback Crafter mandolin. Very pretty top, but the bridge had pulled off, and it was very badly repaired. Terribly, in fact. The owner had drilled a series of holes in the back, in the shape of a square. The holes were then joined up, to give a large square access port in the back. Then, the bridge and top were drilled and 5 M6 bolts and washers were inserted, to reattach the bridge. The bridge had split slightly too. I would like to try a working one, one day.
  16. Looking for a piano, for myself and my daughter to mess about on - my daughter reached Grade 2 and I played the electric organ decades ago. A Kurzweil SP76 has appeared very close to me, for £80. Is it worth having?
  17. Kurzweil SP76 - The same model of piano has appeared very close to me, for £80. Is it worth having?

  20. Any ideas what this Cash Converters find is? 5 courses, 10 strings. Not a guitar, surely.

  24. In fact, the DI was fine. I had plugged the bass into the return of the effects loop, and thus bypassed the DI. In my defence, the amp head was vertical rather than horizontal, to save space - and I was disoriented and used the wrong jack socket! I'll get my coat.... EDIT. Actually, it was me who moved the amp head onto its side..... so, my fault entirely, and laughably indefensible. I won't even try to blame someone else!!
  25. About two years ago, I bought some kit from Thomann, including a passive DI box. At the time, I had no need for it - all of the amps that I used had a DI built in, and the venue that I played at had spare DI boxes. This morning the DI Out on the Ashdown wasn't working, so, I got to use my Thomann DI box. I was delighted that I had the necessary kit in my equipment case (or as I should call it, my Just In Case...). We also had to read music for one of the songs this morning. The music including chromatic runs of notes, and even a written E# - so, play an F when looking at an E on the stave.... The guitarist (Worship Leader) did an excellent job, working out the right inversions, and kept it rhythmically straight. Pianist was very good too. As for me, I surprised myself, and managed to play what was written - but I shan't be buying the live album of this morning's service! In other news, the vocalists wanted to change the key of one of the songs - G to E. Just as well I practice in other keys, rather than only the written or expected keys. And we had a different drummer, who seems to play more complicated and technical rhythms than I am used too - his proficiency is beyond my skill levels, but I enjoy learning how to lock in with him. All that took one hour of rehearsal. All in all, a recipe for disaster, but it worked out okay.
