  1. I always wonder what use can be made of a piano soundboard - a big sheet of spruce, that's been aged for 100 years, and played in. Surely that's useful for an acoustic guitar top? There is a high end grand piano in the lobby of my dad's care home. And my evangelical church has at least 3 upright pianos dotted around the place. There used to a couple upstairs too, but they seem to have disappeared. We use one of those ubiquitous red electric pianos for services.
  2. Yamaha DX11 synthesiser. Working, but has a "lazy" high B flat spring, and a chipped G key. Postage or delivery or collection to be negotiated.
  3. I have a VideoLogic DRX-601E DAB tuner, which is slightly faulty. It takes about 10 minutes to warm up, and for the signal to stabilise. After that, it works well and sounds fine. Remote control included. Free to a good home, but the recipient will need to collect or pay for delivery.
  4. A music desk with a pull out tray for a Kurzweil piano (which I can make by putting a second, stacked top on my daughter's old university desk, and cutting a sheet of mdf to shape for the tray). A repair to an Washburn XB 925 with a twisted neck. Actually, more likely to be a new neck! Space (which I can make by selling redundant and unused equipment). Time (which I can make by spending less time on basschat.co.uk!) Hiscox cases for the basses I now own. The old-style straplock buttons. Fewer basses. Talent.
  5. For general music theory, and practical composition tips, Jake on Signals Music is inspirational.
  6. I find Tom Bornemann to be excellent. Tab, playalong, and music all on a clear video. A wide choice of songs too.
  7. When you're finished, could I borrow your sandpaper? Absolutely terrifying gig. Like a one-legged unicyclist on a tightrope, disaster is just one (Jah) Wobble away....
  8. I was also surprised to learn that Judge Robert Rinder is a bassist. Certainly, Robert Rinder is often curt ...
  9. I've got my eye on a secondhand bass. And last week I got my hands on my third bass.
  10. Great idea - I like the idea that a case had been on a longer tour than many musicians. I think that the case should have its own Tour Website. "The travels of Casey Mc CaseFace".
  11. Can we expect a new Family Photo, with the previous guitars too? Which ones are you missing from your set?
  12. Yes, I have also met drummers who make mistakes and can't remember the song . . . 😛
  13. I am out. Washburn XB925 with Bartolini pickups. Actually, two. Two Washburn XB925s, not two Bartolini pickups.
  14. Looks like I have found one of my unicorns! The day before I posted my list, I found two for sale on Facebook. 11 days after, I have a courier date, and just need to pay the fee. I am normally quite "meh" about basses - I like the ones I like, and so long as they both work, I have no real interest in anything else (apart from those unicorn basses!). So, thanks to @nilorius, I spoke what I wanted - and it arrived! I am excited.
  15. I hesitate to share details of service prices, just in case their boss is reading this, but let's just say it is cheaper to send two Ashdown Acoustic Radiators together for a service, than one at a time. I also send an Electric Blue head with a faulty* power supply. I was given a choice of power supplies, the option of replacing any substandard components, and a separate sleeve for the head. Add to that a lovely little chat with the same Dave Green, and great sound, and I am a happy Ashdown customer. * faulty? Some clown had removed it, and then popped the amplifier into a cupboard as a spare. Anyone who has ever played in church will recognise the concept of the Donated Rubbish cupboard....
  16. For me, a fretless Washburn XB500 (5 string). Washburn made about a dozen fretless basses spread across the 4 5 and 6 string range, and all went to Japan. Also a factory fretless xb925 (I have only ever seen one for sale, in the USA), and a fretted xb925 (one was for sale in the UK on basschat.co.uk but the neck had been swapped out when it developed a fault).
  17. I take the view that I need to be better than my bass, to justify an upgrade. So far, I don't feel that the bass that I have is holding me back. Rather, it is is my inability to sight read complex (or simple!) rhythms. A new bass won't fix that. However, do wonder if a better bass with a lower action would make it easier to play (say) Hit Me With Your Rhythm Stick - as it is, I do not have the strength and dexterity in my little finger to hit the E string on the 4th fret.
  18. The perfect gift for your guitarist- a daily reminder that he should treat the bassist like a doormat, and walk all over you...
  19. Perhaps you are thinking of mammoth tusk? What with it being extinct, it is not an endangered species, so can be traded (unlike elephant ivory). Example here: https://guitarpartsandmore.com/products.php?Fossil-Mammoth-Ivory-Saddle-Blanks-14
  20. Had an afternoon power nap. Lots of nap, not much power....
  21. 24th month, or 24th year?
  22. Seeing that plate in the car park at the South East Bass Bash, was what confirmed that I was at the right place.
  23. BA55 ACG is available for £599, for any bassist with an ACG. BA55TRD is not available from DVLA , nor is it on a vehicle. Never issued, I guess. However, your vehicle can tell other road users that you're • BA55 AS F ••• (if you put the 4 plate screws in the right place).
