I experienced something similar (but much less fraught) back in the 80s when a policeman stopped me with a Hohner B2B in case. He apologised, saying he had to check as it could be an offensive weapon. To which I replied “Some would say that, in my hands, it is.” He didn’t laugh, but at least I wasn’t cavity searched or anything.

Given the likely futility of trying to explain (and my own suppressed violent fantasies) may I suggest simply learning the Vulcan nerve-pinch. Or, a saying I once heard, “ Never try and teach a pig to sing. It wastes your time and annoys the pig.”

What freaks me out about this is that it is implicit that this sort of nonsense is not infrequent. I left the UK in 1990 and stories like this (sometimes even worse) of punters‘ behaviour seem to be commonplace these days. Back then that would have been exceptionally poor behaviour.

Try googling FI patches Let’s Dance. I did that with some other songs and found some good stuff. There are other fora and resources out there where users post their patches.

I’m genuinely sorry to hear this. You’re contribution to the “How was your gig last night?” thread are always highly entertaining. I hope you manage to recharge your batteries and find a band set-up more suited to a lighter schedule in the near future.
