And how did she sound? Forgive the question, but somebody had to ask. -
Band of Friends gear stolen in Germany
SICbass replied to Steve Browning's topic in General Discussion
Bar stewards! I‘m on a number of secondhand instruments FB pages in Germany. I‘ll keep my eyes peeled. Do you happen to know what part of Germany they were in? -
Wanted ad posted. Thanks for your attention and advice guys.

I am interested in trying Rotosounds out, but as @Burns-bass pointed out, I’d probably be better off posting a wanted ad here.
-
According to the seller, the strings have only ca. 50 hours of use and weren’t really his thing (possibly because of the problem with the A string). The E, D and G strings are all fine.
-
My apologies, I only just noticed your question. Thanks again fro your help and advice. The synthetic string is the E from a set of Presto Nylonwound Ultralight 3/4.

I'm on a budget and have seen a set of Rotosound Double Bass strings (which I would like to try out) on Ebay Small Ads, going for a good price. The seller is very open about the A-String being a bit dodgy - "The E, D, and G strings are in very good condition; only the Monel winding on the A string is broken in several places. You can still play it and everything sounds normal, but it's not optimal for your hand and fingerboard." I asked him for a clearer picture of the "breaks" and he sent them promptly. "Hi Paul, I don't know if you can tell anything from the photos. It's playable, but the sheathing is broken there – unfortunately, that seems to be "normal," but the strings are rough, and you can feel it on your fingers and the fretboard." What do reckon, worth a punt? €119,- as opposed to a new price of €269,- OR is the A-String unplayable? Unfortunately Thomann don't offer the strings as singles.

What I was hearing was more of a distortion type sound than rattling from the bass itself. There is a minimal amount of string noise which may have exacerbated the issue.
-
Thanks guys. After a good deal of fiddling around with the gain pot and other controls on the pre-amp, that got rid of almost all of it. I was surprised at how far down I had to turn the gain, but I think that might be most of the issue. I‘m going to grab a new battery today and see if that helps.

I'm notitcing some distortion in the lower notes on the E-String. However, the low-batttery light isn't lit. Has anyone else experienced anything similar and could they give me any tips? I've tried it on two different amps and it happens on both. I don't want to immediately assume that the unit is faulty.

An excellent tribute to Nick. Well done.

Yep, I noticed about ten years ago when buying my first class D amp, a Genz Benz, that when looking at spec, my eye started immediately dropping to the bottom of the list. What does this sucker weigh?

Yeah, watch any of that old footage of The Blockheads live, and NWR always had well red eyes.
-
Gladly. To be honest, it's as a just-in-case, if the Elvis in our Rock'n'Roll show insists on having it á la original. I'm risking a stress injury in my right hand as it is...

Sorry, I don't quite understand. Use more nail on a double bass? I do always practice slapping guitar players at any opportunity 😎

What? NOT Tony Hart?! Such a shame…

Don‘t DO that. These days, any thread titled with someone‘s name, I take to be an obituary 😅

Replacement bridge wing pickup for Shadow RB Pro rig?
SICbass replied to Paddy Morris's topic in EUB and Double Bass
Just saw this on Shadow's U.S. website. Do they have distribution in Europe or UK? https://shadowelectronics.com/collections/oem-products-and-parts/products/bridge-pickup-for-rockabilly-pro @Paddy Morris maybe try contacting them for info about a UK distributor. I tried the link from their website, but it went al 404Error on me, so... -
As we get older, that becomes increasingly important. I always tell myself, "Every band has at least one pain in the *rse in it. If yours doesn't.... it's probably you."

Hello to upright players, I have a technique question about rockabilly slap. It's regarding bars 34-37 In the attatched pdf in the solo in That's Alright Mama. The solo section as a whole, I would play a slightly different line, but putting that aside, on the 5-chord E, if I try and play it on the D and G strings, I struggle to control sympathetic resonance of the open, un-played E string. So, do I: a.) somehow dampen the open E? b.) focus on my right hand technique when striking the D and G strings? c.) play the line higher up on the A and D stings? Your thoughts, please? Cheers, Paul

Graham is a top chap. Buy with confidence. I paid in the evening, the pedal (MXR Bass Envelope Filter) was sent in the morning and arrived the following day i.e. less than 48hrs between payment and receiving the goods in the condition as promised. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Exactly. I've waved the cash goodbye, but if I only manage to prevent this happening again, then it's worth it. And frankly, I'm small minded enough that I'd get a kick out of messing with the f*cker's day.

Done.
