1. Any prospective owners will need this schematic for the Schack pre. 3 groups of switches for 3 bands of eq. Select the centre frequency of each band by moving the switches.
2. Sounds like you have a "rising tongue" (the bass, not you!!). If the fingerboard's thick enough you could be to do a partial re-fret on the last few frets. You'd have to remove the last few frets, plane out some of the fingerboard and then put back frets which are lower in height than the originals. Or you get a replacement neck.
3. Sometimes you just find a bass that's "right"
4. Neat setup
5. Cool collection Love that white Spector!
6. Great collection
7. If they're just a little dirty, try cleaning with a toothbrush and naptha (lighter fluid). If that doesn't work then soak in a mixture of naptha with a couple of drops of 3-in-1 oil. That cleans and lubricates them at the same time. Some thick grease or 3-in-1 oil is worth a try on the stiff tuners as well.
8. I'd have to say the ACG pre as well. It's just completely different to a regular banded pre. Takes a little time to get use to, but after that it's great.
9. I've played that bass and it's just wonderful. The magnetic and piezo work so well together and the neck is superb. Whoever buys this will be one happy bassist
10. Let's hope it stands up in the heat of the gig. Keep us all posted.
11. Cool line-up
12. You bought new instrument and, by law, it should be free of flaws in the finish or how it's put together. I found this out earlier this year when I took advice from the CAB about a resonator guitar I bought that was rusty inside (no kidding!!). You shouldn't have a problem getting a replacement bass. However, they might offer to refund some of your money to get you to keep it. Then you have to make the decision whether the refund is worth the annoyance of the blemishes.
13. The EMGs are bargain on their own.
14. Personally, I'd get the ACG filter-based pre. Tremendous bit of kit.
15. That's got to be a cool bass. 20th anniversary. Now I feel really old. I remember trying one when they first came out at a Yamaha store in Central London. Being a big Billy Sheehan fan, I really wanted to like it but the neck was like a big tree chopped in half with frets added! It was way too thick for me to play. Still think they look great though
16. After being scared off by the cost of setups here in Glasgow, I decided to do my own. I've used Dan Erlewine's books and DVD's. They've been a great investment. I've bought them from Stewart Macdonald I start an evening course at a local college tomorrow evening, so there might be something wherever you live.
17. Phil's bass. Blimey !!!!!!
18. OOOOOO I do like that The F bass take on the J.
19. Looks like it's going be a great bass. Great choice of self-birthday present. I'm sure you'll be overjoyed at the finished instrument.
20. If you go back to stringing though the body, file a gentle ramp where the string comes out from the body and over the bridge itself. Hopefully, this'll cure the string breakage problem.
21. Try taking the truss rod nut off and clean the threads and the nut itself. Put a smear of vaseline in the nut and on the bearing surface. This'll make the truss rod work a little better. DON'T TRY THIS IF YOUR BASS HAS A 2 WAY TRUSS ROD LIKE A FENDER BI-FLEX. You can't remove the nut and you'll put a bow in the neck trying. If that doesn't work. the truss rod could be compressing the wood at the other end of the neck. I think that's what happened to MrCrow's Ricks. This isn't a problem, but will have to be compensated for. The neck stage would be to put the neck into a backbow with the truss rod nut loose, then tighten it. This way you'll have to loosen the nut to get the neck straight.
22. To clean, I use a rag with very hot water squeezed out well. Follow that with a dry rag. Works very well. If you have a really dirty bit and the hot water doesn't work, try saliva, de-ionised water or naptha (lighter fluid). To polish, any guitar polish is fine. I like the Gibson Hi-Gloss stuff.
23.
what makes a super jazz, super
Not being made by Fender :brow: (personal opinion based on personal experience).
24.
what, no makita drill??
Other drill brands are available. For promoting Makita, each band member was allowed something from their catalogue. Billy Sheehan got a generator.
