1. I'd buy something that you won't lose money on, should you decide its not for you. Don't forget to budget for new strings, a setup, case and a bow...... Good luck.
2. Looks like a German "trade" instrument, made in the mid/late 1800's, also know as "blockless wonders" because theres no block at the heel of the neck. Yours is near identical to mine, which was made around 1850. Take it to a luthier, they'll have more information for you.....
3. One of the hatpegs on my 1850 German trade bass disintegrated about 15 years ago. Couldn't find a matching replacment, so I found a local wood turning shop and got the guy to copy one of the remaining pegs. He made me a set of 3 (two spares) for about 20 quid. Then it was a case of experimentation to get the varnish looking right.....
4. Hi Dave, you need a dedicated twin channel preamp, I ues a Raven labs PMB2 Preamp/di. (Discontinued). Theres actually one up for sale on Fleabay for £200 at the minute, I paid £300 for mine used ten years ago! That has three blendable inputs. Failing that, pretty sure Seymour Duncan do a similiar preamp called a D-Tar or Solstice..... Good luck
5. Hi Tony, I might have a spare kicking about, I'll have a look for you. Mart.
6. Its mad, I only paid £160 for a 1976 Precision body off usa ebay a couple of years ago.......
7. Monica bought my Q tron. Great transaction.
8. SOLD,/ Instructions say NTMB-918F, but I'm pretty sure this preamp is one of the the higher spec HR preamps. as it has more features.... It has twin pre amp modules and can run on 9 or 18 volts, active Bass, treble and Mid controls (one of which is a push/pull pot), a blend pot and what I presume is either an active/passive switch or a mid boost/scoop switch. Bought secondhand a couple of years ago, with the idea to fit it to my early '90's Pedulla Buzz bass, but I've decided to leave it standard. Any questions (or maybe someone can tell me more about it), please ask. Cheers, Mart.

10. I recently found the pickup from my long gone late '70's P bass, I'd replaced it with a quarter pounder sometime in the 1990's. I'm not going to use it, so it may as well be sold. Anyone have a clue as to what the going rate would be? Had alook online, but there doesn't seem to be anything out there...... Cheers, Mart.

15. Pics to follow Blurb from Seymour Duncan: "Vintage correct split-coil Precision Bass pickup made to look and sound like the late 50s originals. The P-bass has defined recorded and live music since its inception, and the Vintage P-Bass pickup nails all the things we love about that distinctive tone. You will get just the right balance of authoritative thump and clear articulation for an authentic P-Bass feel. Our Vintage P-Bass pickup uses hand ground alnico 5 rod magnets, and a vintage coil wind to deliver all of the bold, smooth tone of the late 50s Precision Bass. This pickup is a drop-in replacement for any American Standard Precision bass. Since 1978, weve been hand building all of our vintage Fender style pickups with the right color and thickness of Forbon flatwork, along with the period correct hand ground alnico 5 rod magnets. Each pickup comes complete with waxed and tinned cloth pushback hook-up wires. We hand file the flatwork, assemble, and lacquer the bobbin just as it was done during Fenders Golden Age. Comes with black non-logo covers." Sounds great too! Good condition, £40 delivered in the UK
