1. Great tight unit, not nearly rock enough for me though. Good for the right player.
2. I like the Realist as to my ears, it has the least nasal quality to it and contains a lot of defined low end. It can be a bit wooly sounding though, and they seem to be hit and miss. I bought a new one from Mo Clifton about 12 years ago, after hearing one being used. The new one wasn't a patch, so it went back and I ended up with a secondhand, older version that was ten times better. Hopefull by now, he's sorted out the inconsistency.....
3. I own a Neo-Pak 3.5. I bought it as a spare and on the occasions when I did use it, I found it to be a bit polite and gutless. Then it started blowing fuses, so I figured I'd cut my losses by fixing it and selling it on. Turns out it had blown all its power transistors. What a difference when I got it back, totally different animal, big warm punchy sound, it could never have been running right when I bought it. I'd never sell it now.
4. I went out with a girl who was Pino Palladino's wife's cousin. She later accused me of only dating her on the off chance of meeting Pino. Lol.
5. Pro Bass player available for paid work, (live, session, dep, etc). Stacks of studio and live experience. Just completed a run of theatre shows with a Pink Floyd tribute: www.vesbimfloyd.com, and have recently recorded the bass for the north west rock band The Jokers new album This was engineered and mixed by Tom Size ( Aerosmith, Dave Lee Roth, etc), at Parr st studios, Liverpool. I play electric fretted and fretless bass and also double bass, (acoustic and electric). I'm not a jazzer, but I am pretty versatiIe and am able to cover a lot of styles. I have a lot of studio experience on a variety of projects, working with some top producers along the way. I have a huge amount of live experience, ranging from american festivals to the smallest of pubs. ( I enjoy both!). In addition to touring the UK, I've worked all over the USA, Europe and Russia. Tip: Don't ever take a gig in Russia unless you've been paid upfront. Happy to work local or travel at short notice as required. Can always be tempted into a fulltime band situation if the music and the vibe are right.... Thanks for looking, PM me if you want a chat or just need more info.
6. £1000. No trades please guys, unless you have something plus cash my way, cheers. A very reluctant sale of my maple knecked fretless Precision. Fitted with a Lindy fralin Vintage P pickup which has been in the bass since the day I bought it. I never had the original pickup I'm afraid. The pickup is one of the best I've had from Fralin, loud and powerful but lots of vintage p bass grind and bite. It has some typical 1970's mods: Chunky brass strap buttons and string tree (Why....?), two of the bridge barrels have been changed but I may have a couple I can throw on. The body is finished in mid/late 1970's Fender "Thick Skin" Black polyester, it still has the sticker from the Dublin music shop it was first sold from on the back of the body. The body has a couple of scuffs and the odd scratch, there are a number of small dings which have gone through to the wood. The fingerboard is in excellent condition and plays beautifully. The neck itself and headstock are pretty clean. There is wear on the underside of the neck, the headstock which has a few scuffs on it, hasn't yellowed like some '70's Fenders I've owned. The neck pocket has the recognisable stamps and writing. The neck is stamped "J Moreno", not of Chelski fame, but anyone who's had a few older Fenders will have seen that before. From what I remember about neck codes: 01 = P Bass 10 = Fretless Maple neck 22 = 22nd week of the year After that (3?/5?) 0 and 1. Normally there are only 2 more numbers, one showing the year and one the day, so feasibly this could be: 3 =1973, 5 = 1975, 01 = Monday However the headstock serial number clearly states 1978, so even allowing for Fenders habit of throwing stuff together, I can't see the neck waiting to be fitted to a body for that long! If anyone has more info, please share! I've tried to show any and all marks/slight damage in the pics. Weightwise, I can't lie: She's a boat anchor. If you have a bad back, don't go for this Bass. I think I have an old but serviceable hardshell flightcase that I'll include, failing that, there may be a very tough Peavey nylon gigbag. Any questions, please ask.
7. Monday bump for a great pedal.
8. Alex bought my Ampeg SVT4 PRO. Great guy to deal with. Have fun with it mate. Mart.
9. EBS Octabass pedal, three modes, high, mid and low, clean and effected signal mixing. True bypass switching. Boxed with manual. Has velcro on its base, as it lived on a pedalboard. Base is scratched but otherwise the pedal is in great condition. £65 delivered in the UK, £60 collected from the Wirral.
10. Most likely a final bump before she goes in to storage....
11. Playing and singing ability required: Average +....No wonder the industry has gone down the pan.
12. I had a pair of the lower spec'ed 405's, best 2x15's I ever owned, the 406's must be amazing!
13. I did put something up about this months ago but I got sidtracked. Anyhow, its come together real quick over the last week and a half. 1977 neck (had been badly defretted and relacquered over the headstock to make it darker...). Couldn't do much with the headstock, but the boards now been cleaned, refretted and relacquered. The body was a very poorly refinished "1976" P body that I took a chance on from the states, purely because I had a vibe about it. Don't ask, I can't explain! After stripping several coats of paint, including would you believe, white emulsion!!!! I got down to what was definitely looked and felt like the remains of Fenders own Clearcoat. Then, after carefully stripping the neck pocket, I did find the hoped for stamps and even a bit of pencil writing. After careful comparison of the routing with my 1978 P bass fretless, I've come to the conclusion that this is a genuine '70's Fender body. What year? I just can't tell unfortunately. Weight is not too heavy, I'd say a medium. My mate Tom, very kindly rubbed the body down properly and refinished it in 2 pack "BMW" black, before finishing it in clear gloss lacquer. I wanted to try and replicate Fenders mid to late '70's "Thick skin" finish and I think its worked pretty good. I threw in a Seymour Duncan Antiquity2 "Pride" pickup that I've had knocking around for years, a couple of old pots and a jack from my long gone '78 fretted P, which surprised me by still working! The scratchplate was sourced from a fellow basschatter, its nice enough but its a temporary stop gap as are the control knobs. The bridge is stolen from my 1971 Jazz, and will stay on until I find a suitable replacement. Heres some pics from the last couple of days, I have more from earlier in the process if anyones interested... Cheers, Mart.
