Well its been my experience that a badass grooved for my 70's p bass was not a matched alignment for my 71, as the bridge pickup in my '71 J has a slightly offset rout, ahh the glory days of CBS ownership.....

I had one of these, lovely instruments and this is a tad underpriced, I sold mine for £400 over ten years ago.... They are priced at around £950 direct... Its worth checking out the age of yours to see if it was made by Smith himself....
