1. The Custom shop logo looks possibly a bit dodgy as if its been put over where a real serial has been sanded off. I wonder what the B sounds like on a 32" scale. Not sure I'd like the half-inch action at the 12th fret.
2. Its obvious what the problem is - the management must be putting guitarists in to run the bass shop. A bass player would understand that the correct number to own is one more than the currently number.
3. Dr Randall Kertz wrote a very good book called "The Bassist's guide to injury management, prevention & better health" - available from his web site.
4. 80s bass is all about using a boss chorus pedal isn't it?
5. Jean Baudin looked as bored playing as I was listening
6.
# " I took it out of the packaging and not only was it beautiful to look at, but was perfectly in tune!!! It is the best resin back semi accoustic I have ever played and I'm looking forward to many happy hours with this baby. In short I love it. Keep producing your great guitars." - Maureen, South ....well after this and the OP's glowing report i just couldn't resist it and bought not only a bass but also the company!!! don't you just love unsolicited advertising?
If the instruments being shipped in tune is such a unique selling point, what does that tell you about the target-market?
7. The basses come ready tuned
8. I think they're rubbish
9. I never managed to get past Matthew 6:5-6.7. Maybe my understanding of it was incorrect though. Anyone care to explain it the meaning of the passage?
10.
Their bassist then actually was Nick Fyffe. ... ... why did he leave?
Perhaps he wanted to concentrate on the banana business? ...mmmm bananas
11. I'll definitely get one of these if I ever have cause to want my bass to sound like a wasp in a jamjar - or want to go "snick snick fnarr fnarr" at rehearsals.
12. Luvverly mwahhh on the second clip. A while ago I was planning on getting one of the 5 string fretless harley bentons, but never got around to ordering it. If I thought I had a use for one I'd [s]ask the wife for permission to[/s] order one right away.
13. My alarm bells will be going off that he's probably had a quote for the 'minor' repair then decided to unload the amp as the repair cost exceeds the value. He wants to drop off rather than give you the chance to hear it before handing the money over. I hope I'm wrong, but he sounds like a tit of the highest order. I reckon he's either trying it on or is genuinely stupid.
14. I'd be worried about
...it also has a very slight crackle at higher volumes. On agreeing with the winning bidder i could take the cab to an amp repair man, who i know to be very good and we could just add the cost to the price.
I hope its a simple & inexpensive repair.
15.
Maybe that's a Sei headstock then ....
Nope - he was looking at my fender h1 jazz at the time. Occasionally I need to cut an inch or two off if the string is too long - I had to do this on a couple of the strings when fitting a set of Thomastik JF324s to a daisy rock elite, but I always wind as much around the post as I can without getting overlaps. I've noticed when buying bady strung secondhand basses that people (non basschatters?) often don't realise that you should put a bend in the sting and poke the end down into the hole in the post.
16. Martin Peterson at the gallery once advised me not to cut strings. So I don't.
17. The Daisy Rock I bought on ebay at the weekend (see my thread on crappy packaging) had the crappy strings wound like this:
18. I've just taken delivery the bass I bought at the weekend on ebay. I never expected it to be sent by royal mail std parcel service - not recorded or signed for. The bass is a lovely daisy rock elite with glued in neck and angled back headstock so my heart sank when I saw the parcel as even from a distance I could see that it wasn't padded at all. The outline of the parcel seemed to be the same size and shape of the bass. I was expecting to find a headstock break. Packaging materials used were:

a bin bag
About half a roll of parcel tape
nearly a whole roll of electrical insulating tape
A piece of cardboard wrapped just around the neck
a small piece (less than 6" x 12") of quarter-inch thick foam
The tape was tightly wrapped around the outside like a mummy so it wasn't protected from dropping or falling over at all. Foam had been taped around the headstock, but it was probably about one tenth of the amount required to protect from a headstock break had it fallen. The bass was then inside a smelly/dirty thin old (80s I'd guess) gigbag which I put straight in the bin. Luckily the bass had survived and the headstock was intact, but this is the third time I've had in instrument off ebay with similar packaging. Who else has been amazed at stupid ebay packaging on something recieved? My previous one was a daisy rock guitar similarly wrapped but with cling-film instead of the bin bag.
19. I'd get a genuine Fender one from bass parts resource Out of stock of the Torty one at the moment, but the holes & outline will line up much better than any aftermarket one.
20.
People keep telling me to use flatwound but I hated them on the MM.
What flats did you try? rotos? If so I you shouldn't let them put you off flats. I use Thomastic JF344 Infeld (JF324 on short scale basses) I reckon they'd be good on on a hofner.
21. I won this auction at the weekend - 32" Daisy Rock Elite http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...em=250302493641 My daughter already has one exactly the same, but this one was so cheap I put in a low-ball bid in the last few seconds & my flabber was gasted when I won. Bargain!
22.
This weekend I tried a Thunderbird for the first time and my god they are the most neck heavy basses ever I don't know how people get on with them.
Easy - I moved the front strap button on mine to the neck heel area - cured the neck dive 100%. A stupid design fault easily cured. No idea why they're not made with the button in the best position by default.
23. That looks like it was cobbled together out of left-overs. Oh it was. It just looks wrong (IMHO) At least [s]ripping off[/s] licensing the design Ned Steinberger did for Spector was more successful for Warwick.
24. By rear contour I think you mean not the entire back, but the "beergut" cutout is all black. Cheapo copies have this to disguise a body made from more than one laminate of wood or even ply though. Early mexican fenders I have seen also had this. Not sure if current ones do or what they were trying to hide - my guess is that laminates of more attractivly grained wood is stuck to the top & bottom of plainer wood, so it doesn't always mean it can't be a real fender.
25. laban1 - are you as boring in real life? You've cross-posted the same post to (at least) three threads. We don't do that here. er... Otherwise, Welcome to BC
