I was salivating at reading the thread title, anticipating something gorgeous, and I was not wrong!
Thanks...I do think it's a bit special. Emails replied!
2. Hello lovely basschatters. This is my second and last custom I have had built by Jon Shuker (www.shukerguitars.co.uk) - See it in the gallery here, above its blue brother. I have been using a Sadowsky Metro 4 constantly for over a year now and feel I need a matching Sadowsky 5 for consistancy of sound. It is therefore, with great reluctance (and a horrible tax bill looming over me this December) I offer this Shuker Jazz 5. Built to partner my Shuker 4, these are the specs: 5 String Jazz bass 33" Scale String spacing 17mm Red flamed maple finish rounded over, no binding Matching jazz bass headstock veneer - 5 piece laminated neck, maple/wenge (usual J bass) Fingerboard: Macassar Ebony Pearl block inlays Two way truss rod, carbon fibre reinforcement Frets - Medium Red LED side dots - Brass adjustable Nut - In black 5A flame maple top Satin neck finish - Polyester basecoat/wetlook gloss topcoat Black knobs Black hardware Ind. bridge units Black Hipshot tuners - Elephant Ear style Recessed neck bolts String spacing - medium, not wide Preamp - Shuker Pickups - Delano single coils Jack socket - side mounted Snap off plastic battery covers in back I've had this bass with Low B and high C and it sounds great with both. I know some people are dubious about low Bs on anything below 35" but I firmly believe Jon is right when he says it's the build which decides how well it works. The LEDs are great with duel dimness. The 33" scale is fantastic and comfortable. Sound clips can be heard here! Only trade offers I can accept would be Sadowsky Metro 5 with a rosewood board. Price is firm as well, thanks. I really don't want to ship a bass like this. I'm in Chelmsford, Essex, near the A12 and M25. It comes with a fitted, hard, Shuker Hiscox case. I can drive to meet for a few quid also. My email is mikemcgibney AT gmail DOT com Here are some more pics:
3. Good price. My metro kills any other bass I've played. Use it for everything now!
4. Hey Scott. Great lesson. I'm really shedding hard as I've realised that one of my main problems is a lack of instant harmonic understanding all over the bass. So last night I worked on the DM7 arpeggio and set up a Dm7 vamp and just soloed for 30mins at a time using just those four notes - and my solos were more rhythmically interesting than normal, with much more motivic development. This "containment" style of practice is something I'm going to work on. I briefly then did a Dm7 to Cmaj7 vamp but decided that the Dm7 is not 110% ingrained yet so still going to work that for a few more days. Thanks for helping to give some direction to my practise. Regards Mike PS did I sell you a Benevente single cut some years ago?
5. Bugger, any chance you can convert the Metro to a 5??

SOLD

Not wanting to buy but just registering my appreciation for a beautiful bass - items like this really liven up the for sale section!
7. Deets on the metro 5 if poss, might be interested in buying if you were selling.
8. Yes, a wonderful melodic and interesting bassist!
9. Would an email to Fender customer support (or custom shop) help define the providence of this bass?
10. I heard this track being played in Superdrug in the UK last week, I tweeted Janek about it!
11. FWIW I believe Janek is her MD. I like how he juggles working in pop, playing as a jazz sideman (eg Mike Stern, Bob Reynolds) and his own band.
12. I'll call tomorrow, thanks for sharing!
13. Great seller, great bass. It is nice and light, I used to have some back problems (caused by my Vauxhall Vectra unbelievably) so Jon chose a nice piece of light white ash (I think) for me.
14. Very good Ben!
15. Congrats Bilbo! Funny you mention Bernie Hodgkins - he's a great guy. I played his 5string double at a jazz jam recently. I'm just getting into double myself the past few months.
16. Cheers - very interesting, will check out your website now. I guess changing the II chord to a dom7 would give you a nice lydian sound over the maj7 I. Will explore! Thanks.
17. Thanks for all the help - and the laughs! Good point re. Contacting Sadowsky. That will be my first port of call. Thanks!
18. Hi all. My number one bass - a Sadowsky 4 - is incredibly sensitive to my iPhone. It seems to be the bass rather than the amp as other basses I use don't react the same way. Whenever an iphone is near, I get a huge buzzing, beeping, those general annoying sounds. It's got to the point where I need to have my phone off or on flight mode whenever I'm playing. I also have to get the band to turn off their phones too. Last night i was playing with a big band (!) which required me being a real pain asking everyone to turn off their phones. This bass is perfect for me and I don't want to change. It's taken me a long time to get to this bass. Does anyone else have this problem? What can I do? Help appreciated!! Regards, Mike
19.
Glad you like it Mike! Because it's been so popular i've been thinking about doing some sort of style analysis video tutorials which i could add to my website. Basically discussing the improvisational techniques of people like Hadrien Feraud, Matt Garrison, Gary willis, Janek Gwizdala etc etc, and their different harmonic approaches. I'll give it some thought! Thanks again, Scott. http://www.scottsbasslessons.com
Fantastic idea. I will stay tuned, and subscribed on your youtube channel!
20. Nice basses - and pics! Were you using a 50mm prime lens, by any chance?
21. Thanks Scott- when I've got a sec will get this down. Cheers!
22.
I've got a great Sadowsky PJ Metro..and I'm thinking about it.....
Let's see pictures!!
