South East Bass Bash No.9, Surrey, Saturday 26th September 2015
Bassman Steve replied to silverfoxnik's topic in Events
Certainly free at the moment so I'll be there. Happy to bring along some Boogie and Barefaced stuff and a Precision or two. -
I am very happy with my M-Pulse 600 into two BF Compacts as a lightweight version of my Boogie 400 into 2x15. Can you live with the weight of your old Fender into lightweight cabs? It has worked for me very well indeed,

Any one else obsessed by backups?
Bassman Steve replied to randythoades's topic in General Discussion
I could try and say I'm not but I'd have to delete my signature first. I don't bother with spare amp/cab but everything else is duplicated at least. -
P-1B Visa for USA...application process
Bassman Steve replied to Twigman's topic in General Discussion
And, of course, they'll see the avatar and refuse your visa on the basis you're a possible terrorist threat. -
Feedback is a tricky thing. I bought a mic a short time ago that arrived not working. On inspection neither wire was attached. I sent the seller a message which he promptly ignored. I would have been fine with a 'sorry to hear that' but nothing. I did nothing because I accept that the wires can be fragile but It did seem unlikely both would be detached. I wonder if anyone has ever left bad feedback?

Classic and Cool have a nice Greco Pbass with maple at 695 at the moment. I would also look at a Fender Japan bass from Ishibashi - never had any problem with them.

Barefaced dilemma - Retro vs Compact UPDATED
Bassman Steve replied to Jenny_Innie's topic in Amps and Cabs
My main intentions were to add a bit of helpfulness and humour (maybe with a tiny bit of smart@rse thrown in) but I'm sensing that your responses are getting a bit defensive/snippy. I didn't mean to embarrass you or rub you up the wrong way, so apologies if that was the case.
Not my intention at all, I was teeing you up for a shot at my expense! In formative years I have worked at a dole office and been a VAT man. You won't find a thicker skin than mine. -
Any suggestions of good simple basslines to learn?

Local Hero and Sultans of Swing - Dire Straits. The latter is well known and the former has some nice harmonic movement in it. Lullaby by Starsailor is also a nice one because it has some nice movement in it. -
If (and I mean if) I could get the cooperation of the other bands I would hire in a PA and engineer and spread the cost. I wouldn't entertain it under any other circumstance. I would be asking the festival organiser to stump up in any case. As said, the requirements of outdoors are so very different - the bass tends to disappear about 2 feet in front of the cabs - and your pub PA just won't do it. I wonder what kind of rig was judged insufficient last year?

I think the key strokes for that accent are 'smart@rse'. :-) -

I don't want to appear pedantic but is your use of capital letters for grill and grille correct in the message above? -

Oh no, ok, so a microwave is an oven. -

I know, I wanted a Compact with a microwave on top. What did you think I meant? -
I think if I go down this route, I might look at trying to find a Gen 2 Compact with a silver cloth grill.
If you are saying that you might want to look for a Gen 2 Compact, I am guessing you have a metal grill one. I am looking to do the complete opposite (find a metal grill Compact in exchange for a silver cloth one). Drop me a line if you decide to go down that route and we can 'talk turkey'. As you're in Dorset it wouldn't be difficult to get to you. -
HMRC investigating 'traders' on eBay etc.

As one of Vodafone's tax professionals I can say that there is considerably more to this than that statement but that's a long story I shouldn't comment on. Ultimately it's all down to greed and brownie points. Make an obvious effort to get it right and you'll usually be fine. The other story concerns the very well known jockey who was being done for having various hidden accounts to hide his income from the tax man. He had been pressed to reveal all his accounts and eventually a settlement was made on the basis that he had disclosed everything. They reach agreement on the sum of the penalty and he whips out a cheque book to pay - on an account he hadn't declared. -
Thanks very much Tom. IT was good to met you. Enjoy the tone, if not the weight. As I said, well worth it.

Left Twix, right Twix. The Japanese Fenders are similarly described and there seems no difference, they just used different phrases at different times.

Tom met me at a gig to pick up his new Bass 400+. Enjoyed a chat with a very knowledgeable guy and very decent chap. Enjoy that lovely valve tone, Tom.

Drop out straight away. Even if you get through this, his behaviour will eradicate any enjoyment you will get from the gig. he doesn't sound very 'like minded'.
