1. That facing is really gonna look amazing when the finish is applied!
2. Cool! I didn't know that. I was looking at BassChat on my iPhone
3. You can edit the post and remove your text (just leave a full stop or something in the text field instead). That way, there's nothing for anyone else to read. If you want the post completely removed, than as was mentioned above, get a moderator to do it for you mate.
4. Do whatever you want matey!! It's your own bass, so you can call the shots! My own New build Shell Pink mid 50's style P-Bass will be completed on Monday - can't wait!
5. Hey, why all the venom? They're not bad strings, just seems like a lot of you prefer some other brands? I'd have no problem using Rotos on any of my basses.
6. That's the supplier I used for the refinishes on my Fender Eric Johnson Strat and fender USA '62 Reissue Jazz Bass Jazz Bass Refinish (Shell Pink) http://basschat.co.uk/topic/165861-fender-usa-62-jazz-bass-refinish-at-home/page__fromsearch__1 Eric Johnson Strat refinish (Surf Green) http://basschat.co.uk/topic/163365-refinishing-fender-strat/page__fromsearch__1
7. I'm off work next week, so the pink P-Bass will be assembled and set up this coming Monday. Yippee!!!
8. A great cover version, if you're not duplicating the original, should make the song different. So, here's Devo's version of The Rolling Stones' "(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8I09xjQgMAI&sns=em
9.
Hope this doesn't end up like another of the OPs previous threads where he stamps his feet & goes on & on for page after page demanding money until someone gives up & pays to shut him up.
Hahaha - my thoughts too!!!
10. The biggest surprise for me was Pete Townshend's comment regarding Keith Moon, saying that he "really didn't think much of him as s drummer". It's really interesting to hear the viewpoint of the individuals involved at the core of the creative process.
11.
thanks I'm just after a gold pickup cover for the neck pickup then it done
Just search eBay using "Jazz Bass cover" and you'll get what you're looking for.
12. Interparcel are really good. I've used them to send stuff to Belgium, Germany, Portugal and Monaco. Fully tracked. www.Interparcel.com
13. Nice to hear the story from your viewpoint Sid. I have to say that if I was contacted by someone over a year after they had bought something from me, and expecting a full refund, I'd be asking if I could talk to the person who looked after them!!! Hahaha It seems absolutely ludicrous that whoever bought the unit also thinks that a store would honour warranty on a used item over a year after the date of purchase?
14. They look cool in place, but the space available between them for plucking the strings is very narrow. That's the main reason a lot of people remove one or both of them. On the d 60's basses there was a strip of foam glued to the underside of the bridge cover - it was designed to deaden the strings for more of an upright bass type of sound. As for the 60's vs 70's spacing - Fender moved the bridge pickup closer to the bridge so that the pickup mounting lugs didn't protrude out of the cover. Personally, ive been using my Jazz Basses with the neck cover in place (like Marcus Millar) and find it kinda cool. It's all down to person taste
15. Ooooh! VERY nice!
16. Looks mega!!!!!!!
17. Looking good!!
18. What's the item in question, and what is the problem with it?
19. Another Motown Funk Brother has left us. His musical contribution to us all will live on. My thoughts are with his family & friends
20. It was Ian Bairnson on guitar. David Gilmour introduced Kate to the record company, but didn't play on the album. I actually played bass with Ian Bairnson a couple if years back. He was back in Edinburgh visiting family with his wife. He played his blue Paul Reed Smith guitar on the gig, and sounded fantastic. Great guy.
21. Hopefully you'll be fine once your actually out there making some noise mate. Let us know how it goes
22. I'm just sitting at home playing my bass and have just thought about the fact that I started playing around age 15. Here I am now, aged 48, and I love playing bass every bit now as I did back then. That is all.
23. I know how you felt in regards to the bass when it was first given to you. I'm glad enough time has now passed for you to enjoy the instrument on it's own merits. The very first bass I ever played was a '74 Jazz Bass which was owned by my friend Jimmy Davidson. This would have been around 79/80 when I was 15. Jimmy was in his mid 20's at the time. The bass seemed HUGE to me at the time, with the strings feeling like ropes. Anyhow, a couple of years ago around December Jim wasn't feeling too good. He went to the doc who diagnosed cancer. Sadly, he passed away in the following February. The family gave the bass to me. I had it restored to the original specifications as jimmy had set the bass up for BEAD tuning, installed brass nut, and had an 80's brass bridge fitted. Martin at The Gallery installed a genuine early 70's Fender nut, and fitted a pristine early 70's Fender bridge (which was donated by Mo Foster). I had the original ashtrays also. The bass looked, played and sounded fantastic. However, I couldn't appreciate it for what it was at the time as it was always "Jimmy's bass" in my eyes. I loaned it to my friend Paul Turner who used it on various gigs with Jamiroquai, Shuffler, and even Take That (when he depped for Lee Poneroy on a German TV show). I got it back last month from Paul as enough time had passed whereby I can now enjoy the bass as being a great vintage bass. It'll always have the association with my friend Jim, but it feels like "mine" also now (if that makes sense?). 24. I'm sure like everyone else, the "favourite albums" for bass changes from week to week. So, for now, here's some of my current favourites: Peter Gabriel - Secret World Live Tony Levin on this album is wonderful http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qiu6RMMNERs&sns=em Rush - Exit Stage Left http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6ker-C8FE2c&sns=em
25. You'll receive a PM from me in a couple of minutes mate
