1. More great feedback here! P bass kit from John this time, 100% top quality gear and service as always! Cheers John. I'm sure I'll be back again.
2. I don't mind his videos, he looks like he is enjoying himself. A lot of what he does isn't really my cup of tea. It's like John Virgo doing trick shots in the intervals at the snooker (yes I live in 1988) or footballers doing the crossbar challenge and keepyuppy tricks, fun and not to be taken too seriously. Just my take on it.
3. 100% for me too. Kim Gordon is from Sonic Youth.
4. I played through a late 80's Ampeg SVT2 and a 70's Ampeg 810 at rehearsal the other night. I used a Precision bass with LaBella flats and I was in tone heaven.
5. This happened to me too. Wedding around 1998. The bride's dad had a heart attack and died at the evening do on the dancefloor.
6. OK, I must have misinterpreted your post. Telling someone that a song they are struggling with is actually a piece of cake, seemed an odd form of encouragement. But, I'll take your word for it
7. Come on, aren't we meant to encourage people?
8. Love them. Just started covering 'Head over Heels'. Really good fun to play. My old band supported them on their 2006 UK tour, they were absolute gentlemen. Their tour manager was vile though. I'll be checking the concert out, cheers for the heads up!
9.
I wish I’d have known the drugs don’t work 😃😃😃😃
I wouldn't worry, it's a dreadful song. 😉
10. Price and quality do not always go hand in hand. Enjoy it, you might not be Jaco (insert any other highly regarded bassist) but being able to make music is a gift. You don't get better by looking at 'for sale' adverts for basses/amps/effects ?
11.
I've always enjoyed Chrismas Wrapping by The Waitresses I think? It may be called Christmas Rapping.
Always been my favourite Christmas song. Great bassline too.
12. By the sound of these experiences, the first gigs we do are way more exciting than the ones we do now!
13. I muted the strings on all the 4 string basses I've had without even realising I was doing it. Since playing a 5 string I've had to work really hard at my muting technique. It's a combination now of the floating thumb and fretting hand muting. It takes time to master on a 5, I'm not there yet. Fun though!
14.
Location/Venue: Red Lion, Northfleet Your age: 20 Your bass: Status Shark Your amp: Trace Elliot and matching 1x15 The set list (some of it): Originals except for covers of Faith No More, Sepultura and Britney Spears. And the A-Team theme tune. Violent Intent, my first 'proper' band. I'd played live before but only at school concerts. VI were a bit ropey, rather naive metal but had a great local following and would pack venues out... Bit of a lack of quality local metal at the time! I loved that Shark (sold it like an idiot) but hated the amp - the Trace sound was never my cup of tea, and I didn;t really know how to get a decent tone out of it. I also had to go really light on the low end or the speaker would make a dreadfull popping sound. the result was a strange mid-heavy tone which didn't really suit drop C-tuned metal. Sadly, just as we were really starting to get good, it all fell apart.
Sepultura cover in a pub! Great, which song?
15. OK I'll get the ball rolling Location/Venue:Horbury Youth Club, Wakefield, West Yorkshire Your age:13 Year: 1989 Your bass:Squier Bullet Bass Your amp: Gorilla 20w The set list (some of it): A few originals, few Beatles songs.
16. We discuss a lot on here about what is happening with us right now. A different thread on here got me thinking how our first gigs are often the source of much amusement when we look back on them now. So what was yours like? Location/Venue: Your age: Your bass: Your amp: The set list (some of it): Anything else that might be funny/interesting/embarrassing.
17.
Remember. . . . musicians hear all the bad notes, but audiences hear all the good notes. Have fun and enjoy yourself.
And this is all you need to know about gigging. P bass with flats also.
18.
Must also add Bob Mould, perhaps the single most under rated musician of the last thirty years.
Good call. Rivers Cuomo did some great stuff on the first couple of Weezer albums. Pinkerton especially.
19. £525 Hello all I love this bass but 5 strings just isn't for me. Ideally I would like a trade for a 4 string version of the same bass - Musicman S.U.B 4 USA, I realise there is a very slim chance of that happening but no harm in trying! These basses were made in the USA Musicman factory in the early to mid 2000's. As far as I know it's the same pickup and preamp as the full fat Stingray. Slab body though, painted neck an odd pickguard. Built like a tank and sounds just like a 2EQ Stingray should, an absolute beast of a bass! Weighs a very reasonable 8.5lbs. This one has been used, loved and gigged and there are a few scars to show for it. It's all mojo as far as I'm concerned! Other trades - maybe for a Japanese 4 string Jazz or P bass. Based in Wakefield West Yorkshire near J38-J40 of the M1 and J25 of the M62. Meetup preferred but I could ship if needed. 20. I've noticed this too and wondered the same thing. It's really frustrating.
21. The Who The Verve Sex Pistols Personal taste of course. I think that it matters sometimes when you first heard the music. The Sex Pistols might have changed my life of I had been old enough to hear it first time round and been part of the movement.
