1.
Ambersil. I used to work at a Cash Converters & we used that stuff on everything for a nice "as new " smell AND look. Great on tolex but in fact works great on anything.
Which Ambersil ? The only one I know is switch cleaner. But they probably make other stuff as well.
 2. Steve Gibbons. For the first time in about 30 years Must be in his 70s and he's still a class act, an example to all us old fogeys that you can go on for ever if you want.
 3. Yeah, loved it. Used to pound that shuffle out by banging on anything that would make a noise.
 4.
...or call 'em plimsolls.
Nah, Plimsoles was a word only teachers used, we called em pumps. Bassball boots covered yer ankles and had a rubber disc with a star printed on it over your ankle bone.
 5. When you remember Snake belts, and call Converse trainers Baseball Boots. Theyre the same make, but they were cheap.
 6.
Car bumper and trim restorer.
Brilliant for putting the shine back, especially the £1 shop stuff that foams up slightly. Cockpit spray works well too.
 7. This is how we used to clean up rexine in the ' reconditioned' radio and tv shop I worked at in the 60s when rexine and tolex were common. dont try itwith paper backed rexine on dansettes though.. 1001 carpet cleaner, capful in a saucer of warm water, fairly stiff brush in a circular motion a patch at a time, then wipe it off with a damp cloth. Takes the shine off with all the old grime, so you need to polishit afterwards. Bad stains come off with car wheel cleaner, but you have to be quick.
 8.
And the reason things are actually "rare" is usually one of two things: no one wanted one when they were new (perhaps they were simply too expensive for what they were), so they didn't make or sell very many or they didn't work very well / broke so very few people kept one. A Morris Ital (for those of you of a certain vintage) is a very rare car now, but it was crap when it was new and time hasn't made it any better. The sane goes for a lot of things.
Is that the one that BL claimed 'Accelerates faster than a Saab 99 ?' Which even looked like a heap of sh*t.
 9.
I have done even fewer (and I have never done a 4 hour - they are all 2 hour ones where we are) and don't really have a sticking level. Certainly would never like to get to a level where I didn't think I could go any further.
Its not a case of couldnt, more of happy with it at this level. I enjoy gigging, but dont enjoy, or even bother practicing much these days.
 10. Played in a tribute band for a while, not really my thing, and I wouldnt set out to see one. I was very impressed with Dizzy Lizzy though.
 11.
I will have played close to 75 four hour bar shows this year. While I'd love to play 1.5 hour shows as a headliner to 200-500 seat venues I think the bar band level is as far as I will go. Blue
Similar attitude - but less gigs. Reached my level years ago. I thimk the trick is to know it, then enjoy what you got rather than worry about it.
 12.
No Squiers at all before '82 - but 70s Antorias and some Eros/Eros MkII came from the same factory. A very lucky BCer grabbed what looked like a very nice Antoria P for £68 a couple of days back. If it had said Squier on the end & JV on the back, you could probably add a zero to the price. J.
I keep seeing the word 'Lawsuit' when they are advertised. Was there ever really a lawsuit ?
 13.
No Squiers at all before '82 - but 70s Antorias and some Eros/Eros MkII came from the same factory.
Pretty sure mines Matsumoto, the chrome soapbar pups dont look right, but they souned better than the ones Antoria fitted.
 14.
Some basses & guitars are rare these days because 30-odd years ago they were regarded as cheap throwaways & most were treated as such. Squier JVs are the most obvious examples but the same thing applies to loads of great-quality MIJ stuff from the 70s & 80s. A fair amount of it was total garbage, though. Jon.
Absolutely right. I have still got an Eros Jazz that I bought new in 73, Plays better than most 70s Fenders, sounds good, was £100 cheaper than the white Precision I wanted at the time. Not many, if any Squiers around then. Antoria were usually considered the 'good' copies. Cant remember the last time I saw a nice Antoria up for sale.
 15. People pay stupid money for Dansettes thee days. They were never rare, nor were they expensive or of even resonable quality. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/SUPERB-1960s-VINTAGE-DANSETTE-TEMPO-RECORD-PLAYER-in-PALE-GREEN-/351557885702?hash=item51da7b9f06:g:oakAAOSw5VFWKTi5
 16. Now we all know about Little Richard dont we ? Funny thing is Tutti Fruity, was covered by Pat Boone and became a hit without him realising what he was singing about. Cant help but wonder whether someone suggested it to him on purpose.
 17.
you could be right, though I got the impression they'd done the deed then he found out, anyway it's a very dodgy subject, "sorry your honour she told me she was 16" doesn't really cut it does it?
Dunno to be honest. How many 18 or 19 year olds ask girls they meet and take home from pubs for ID ? I know I didnt used to. But once, when I was that age, I did see a girl I'd met in a pub a few nights before standing at a bus stop in a school uniform.
 18.
Gary Pucket Young Girl, doesn't even try and disguise what it's about, still played regularly on oldies radio Young girl, get out of my mind My love for you is way out of line Better run, girl You're much too young, girl
Did I miss something ? Surely the whole point is turning the girl away...
 19. This week, but it varies with my mood. Mike Dirnt Graham Maby Ernest Ranglin Phil Mitchell Rod Clements Norman Dave Pegg Duck Dunn J Entwhistle
 20. I'm rubbish at it, even after playing for 40years, but I get there in the end. One thing that matters is play it reasonably loud. trying to do it quietly just wont work for me. Sometimes I cheat, youtube sound is sometimes not great, but you can sometimes see where peoples left hands are.
 21.
Is it me or did every single town in the UK have a band called the redcaps in the early sixties? I bought my 62 precision off the bassist with OUR local redcaps.... Here it is in all its three colour sunburst glory https://www.youtube....h?v=CDuR-_jFk_8 Tony Sa(i)nti playing it
Aged about 11 I used to hang around behind a club in Brum called the Cavern Club ( spose there was one of them in every town as well ) and can remember the buzz when The Redcaps, and The Undertakers ( another popular name ) were on. Our Redcaps had this guy: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dave_Walker Not seen him since the 70s when he was back from the states for a bit, but he had a really great blues voice and presence
 22.
This would be my advice too :-)
Yeah, till about 5 or 6 years ago I'd never done a gig without a few drinks. I dont enjoy it half as much these days.
 23.
Agreed, life really is too short to be doing something you're supposed to be enjoying but you're not! Years ago I joined a band in the Nuneaton area, who seemed to revel in the fact that they had got through 15 bass players. Needless to say, it wasn't long before I walked (the band leader was a complete t*ssp*t) they're still going but the lineup is completely different and they're probably on bass player 38 by now! And by all accounts, the guy is still a complete t*ssp*t....
Were they all drunks in their 50s and from atherstone way by any chance ?
