Hi all, Ive been really tinkering with my sound recently and found that the exact sound im after is achieved by hitting the strings more flat fingered inbetween the neck and pickups of my precision, whereas my normal playing position is between the pickups and bridge with a more arched hand. Playing near the neck just seems to give it so much more tone and 3D type sound, whereas nearer the bridge its more sterile and i always sound like me. Is there any way to continue playing near the bridge but eq in the missing sound from not playing at the neck? I really dont want to have to change my playing style if i dont need to.

Almost all of my kit has changed in 2018. Honourable mentions to my x2 basses (vintage v4s) pretty much do what any precision does, and the revelation of flatwounds (rotosound 77s), The best buys have to be my VTbass Rackmount -- incredibly lucky find. Love it to bits. And another lucky find in my Markbass 610 sealed cab. So easy to move around as its on tilt back wheels, and only 34kg, also it has so much power its unbelievable. A couple of things i liked, but werent practical for me where the behringer bd21 and spectracomp. Great in the own right, but i wanted a really easy set up, not patch cables, external power supplies etc. I also sold my zoom b3 which i loved for this reason. Worst buy probably the QSC 140rmx power amp i bought. Great amp, sounded brilliant, but a near 20kg just for an amp with no preamp or speaker cab, and just for a spare, it was a bit of a stupid idea! Going in to 2019 with the idea of a vt bass deluxe pedal into a trace elf into a 2x12 and using the behringer p2 monitor and zs10 in ears for a tiny quick set up.

we are still all instruments and amps. im just going to use my in ears instead of a monitor. saves loads of time and space and i have volume control over it. if anything breaks i can still hear everyone as we have all our instruments and amps, as well as the pa.

Personally, long 10 minutes ones for me.

yeh, i ordered the one with the mic - i couldnt work out what the difference was, so i ordered the all included one. just wired everything up and gave it a whirl. Got to say, the whole kit isnt noticeable at all when youre playing. Just hope it performs well when we next gig.

just received my in ear kit - zs10 and p2. just setting the ears up, can anyone help with any tips? What is the push button for on the little black stick? Does it matter which earphone or pole you plug the prongs on the cable into? The ears seem very tinny. Is this because they are in ears and not designed to be headphones? Any other tips for fitting etc? Are you supposed to 'plug' the ear or just have it in the ear? (sorry if thats a dumb question!) edit** actually when ive pushed them into my ears theyre really bassy, but when i let go they move again away from my ear and go tinny. Ive sussed it now. when i looked in the mirror it was obvious that the back of the ear phone needed to be pushed further inside my ear (if that makes sense?) to fit snugly.

I have used led flat par 64s in a number of different ways. Having a double yoke (stand) on then means you can use them conventionally on a stand, or on the floor. I used one at each corner on the floor aiming at the opposite corner, which looks great (40 degree beam angle) and covers a wide area of the band, and the rest does around - as mentioned great for lighting drum kits. The beauty with these is you can set them to sound to light, any type of fade, or static color without dmx. Of course if you wanted to dmx as well that's an option. They also have iec ins and outs, so you can per them all from one socket. They're up for sale on this forum if you're interested.

just ordered the zs10s and p2 - at that price its well worth a gamble and at worst a small backup option.

I gave the elf a whirl last night, using it with my main amp as back up just in case. Tight stage set up, using a passive p bass, into my vt rack into the elf which I had set flat, gain around 3oclock and volume around the same, into an ashdown rm212. Firstly the sound was great, really solid (albeit down to the vt) and not pushed or overdriven at all. It was very clear and punchy, didn't need any eqing. Volume wise, it coped without any issue. I had turned down quite a lot once we got going, and had a fair bit in reserve if needed. Band was a queen tribute band, so competing against a full on kit, vox ac30, keys, synths and 4 vocals throigh pa. Honestly it coped fantastic. Everything we do goes through Pa so it was perfect. Only mod I've made is to take the small feet off and replace with more of a door stop rubber feet. I did this to be ashdown little giant and it worked a treat, it lets more air flow to cool as it raises the height so air can pass underneath. We gigged for an hour and forty and it wasn't at all hot when we finished. Very happy.

Thanks all. So, not one bad word to say about it yet - thats what i thought might happen. Its food for thought thats for sure. I love my current main cab (6x10) and its ridiculously light for what it is at 34kg, and its tilit back wheels are great, but i also have a 2x12 for smaller gigs, and well, looking at it here in the living room, size wise, its a lot more transportable, but its flippin heavy for what it is, 31kg! and awkward to carry as it just has x2 of those lift up side handles. Whereas the barefaced would be nearly half the weight and in theory more bottom end, volume and definition. I play a p bass with flats, so i dont need that top end definition. I know what Lozz means about that difference in sound with barefaced - the reason i got the 610 is because it gives a reassurance of that kind of steel fisted bass (to quote from Mackie) that it lets you know its there regardless of venue, and thats the only place the Super Compact was lacking on larger stages, i was really having to dig in at times. I did really like the Super Compact, so id be happy with the sound, but ive recently changed my sound from when i last had the super compact. I used to play a kind of vintage fender bassman tone, now its more ampeg svt via a tech 21 vt rack, so would the super compact replicate that well? At the end of the day, ive finally realised its just for stage monitoring as my vt rack goes to the desk and i have a separate amp receiving that feed that i can adjust on stage for eq levels, so with more and more gigs coming in itd be handy to go back to that easy, light, load in.

Im just wondering if anyone has ever used a Barefaced Supertwin and found them lacking, or feel they needed more volume or umpf on stage? I had a super compact, but it lacked at certain points on larger stages. Im just wondering if the Super twin is twice as good, completely fills that missing gap, or is it just a little bit better? Ive never heard anyone say theyre lacking, but just wondered if theyve ever run out of steam for anyone? Seriously considering as an all in one solution.

Dood's videos are great. Very informative, well thought through and no sales push. They really are top notch. The other things i would want to see on others reviews are: 1. Same bassline played over in fingerstyle and pick, but with a computer added video overlap showing the dial settings. 2. Give a variety, not only of tones, but basslines - some fast, some medium, some slow - instead of just fast tech stuff. How about Dock of o bay, or My Girl - something where we get the sustain and richness of the notes shining through, that cant be hidden in a fast fest. 3. MUST at some point in the demo be played alongside drums or at very least a drum machine, to see how certain settings cut though, again with the video overlap showing the settings. 4. probably a 3 minute song at the end to show it in a full band mix.

Yes. That was my opinion watching the tribute act last weekend. He didnt struggle at all on stage, and used his elf, whereas i used my 610 and 500w markbass to power my vt rack on the same stage just after them. And he sounded great. Maybe there was some underpowered batches that went out, or it really doesnt like certain cabs?

well, ive just had an hour with it. I played it through my 2x12 and 6x10, and all i can say is there must have been some dodgy modules in the first batch released, because the volume this puts out is very very loud. I did find it weird that some reported it being very unpowered, and some saying it gave out outrageous power for its size. I really cant see this being underpowered at all. I connected it using a 'proper' jack to jack speaker cable and flipped through the gain setting until the green compressor light came on, then wound it slightly back for a pure signal. I understand that house volume isnt the same (by a long way) and ive had amps in the past that just disappeared live, so i'll have to wait and see how it goes in a big venue. The 3 band eq is pretty effective, quite impressed by that. The only thing m going to do is fit slightly taller rubber feet. i did that with my ashdown lg1000 and it pretty much immediately stopped running warm/hot, as air could circulate efficiently underneath. So, touch wood, this will be a great back up amp, and should be a complete get out of jail amp should anything break, as i could use my vt rack still to the desk and an unaffected out to this amp. Should the vt go down as well, the elfs DI will come in very handy, as im sure i can get a very good useable sound out of it. If it does work out, its saved me carrying 20kg+ of backup amp and squeezing in to impossible places on stage.

dont worry, i havent taken it that way at all. Your points are completely valid. hopefully i'll get chance to give it a go this week. its due this afternoon. reading the instructions, the gain knob looks interesting, as it isnt just a gain knob, its a 3 function knob. first part for gain, second for compression, third for drive/distortion. So it may give different output at lower on the gain dial......... anywho, we'll see.

Because it just needs to be loud enough for stage area. I wouldnt dream of trying to fill a venue with it.

Having seen it in use, with a big loud band, im hopeful it will be fine. What cabs did you all use with it? and what basses? and pedals? ... and were you using monitors and pa support?

I should have asked really, but we had a tight turn around. Bass looked like some kind of Warwick, but im sure he uses Fender precisions/jazz too.
