1. I researched them a lot years ago - spoke to a few users etc. The outcome seemed to be that most people loved the amps and had no problems over many years. Those who had problems and managed to make contact with WW (usually in the states) were very happy with his work/turnaround time etc. There were a couple of people who had a bad time getting in contact or who were told their amp wasn't fixable (due to components being unavailable). The only person that can tell you seems to be WW himself. Another interesting thing is that he really doesn't like fitting XLR DI outputs on his amps (though I think he has sometimes?). Instead he suggests a good passive transformer style box run out of a jack output from the amp. I used to think this was cranky....but a few years later I totally agree. BB
2. A friend of mine used one for acoustic guitar - a good unit with plenty of options. Can't vouch for its sonic quality, but Radial stuff has a good reputation (I've used one of their cheaper passive DI's for a few years with no complaints). I didn't like the fact it won't run on phantom or batts, but I guess if its the centre of an effects pedal board then that won't matter. BB
3. He's (CK) got a point - WW has a reputation for being hard to contact, secretive of his designs etc. Some say he's great, will fix anything he's ever made..puts circuit plans inside the amp....others say he never answers the phone, scratches part numbers off componenets etc and frequently changes designs even within the same "model". If I owned one I'd make sure I made contact with him, just to see if he'd be helpful here in the UK. BB
4. Dave Ford or Gary Alesbrook (I think he's playing keys a lot these days, band called Backyard) - both on MEEEspace...somewhere. Had a chat with Any Hague few weeks ago and he didn't sound that busy at the mo? BB
5. Hi James, I can only suggest a search on Talkbass - that seems to be the best info source. They are a bit esoteric over here in blighty..and WW himself isn't exactly high profile! Good luck with the sale BB
6. Some interest, but no sale yet....bump BB
7. Don't forget the EMG pickup option for the Pbass - thay have fantastic clarity, and you can easily restore the bass the passive in the future. The battery can be a squeeze in a P, but usually works fine. You can get them fairly cheaply, (and re-sell if it doesn't work out without). BB
8. I've had this for at least 20 years, and I can only remember using it about three times! Its a lovely lush sounding chorus, or wacky vibrato. Big metal case, mains powered (yikes - american two pin plug, plus "shaver adaptor" just like the old days...) and is pretty hissy by modern standards. Put it through the effects loop of your amp and it hisses a lot less...but still hisses. I've no idea what these go for, but I know some people here really love their effects. How's about £75 paypal/posted? I'll get some pics up later today, when I've charged the camera. BB EDIT - pics now attached
9.
Funnily enough, most people who saw my old Shergold from a distance thought it was a Wal anyway Chris
I always thought the body design (certainly of the earliest Wals) bore some Shergold influence...I'm sure part of this stems from the fact that both Hayman/Burns/Shergold and Electric Wood made virtually all the components themselves, so form follows function...in a 1970's England way. Oh..bump... BB
10. Only a suggestion, (I've never been brave enough to have a hearing test..) but a more traditional P bass pickup will give you more mids and clarity. The Sd QP is all about top and bottom, and this can easily get lost on stage. I'd also recommend the Docs Pro plugs earplugs (usually marketed at drummers). They attenuate volume (esp top end) but you can still hear a lot of what is going on around you. If you put them in well before you play you don't really notice them, if you always use them. BB
11. Very nice....there is something about a good Jbass. I must be getting old though - I can't imagine that little amp pushing two 4x10's. Just don't seem right Nice one BB
12. Generally, K&M from Germany - best I've found for all types of stands. Look at Studiospares or Thomann, as prices can vary a bit. BB
13. Don't do it! (scrabbles around looking for things to sell....) Give me about a year, and I might have enough cash (but probably not a car!). BB

With EMG's I'd also suggest a passive tone, just to give you a more traditional option?? I never use the vol on a P but I do use the passive tone more than on any other bass. BB
15. I'd say contact the makers first - I'd be surprised if it wasn't a re-wirable tranformer. If it is....find another tech. BB

'Twas me that did the build the bass in a week - search the nether regions of the porn pages and you should find it - or pm me with any questions?? BB
17. I used to sometimes use a Beyer S250 (made by Trantec?). Worked fine, transmitter fixed onto the strings blow the bridge. Like most of the older ones it got through batteries like a thing that eats batteries...... BB
18. The low tension is something a lot of people can't get on with - but I love it. I put them on a particular bass (usually P style) and set it up for them with a slightly higher action. Years ago I tried the Roto flats and disliked the high tension feel - very stiff and tiring to play, although the sound was good. I also put TI flats on an Alembic Epic - very good, but couldn't help feeling I was missing something? BB
19. There's a lot of them, so here's my experiences/thoughts: SDQP - nope, doesn't sound like a Pbass to me. Too aggressive and bright. SD vintage (not antiq) bang on as a replacement, sounds right looks right. DiMarzio Model P sounds a a bit more aggressive, but still very true as a P replacement. Also a four conductor humbucker so very good on background noise. Looks wrong, but who cares? Wizard trad - didn't overly impress me ( ). Also found it hard to fit, as the case seems a bit oversized? I know these things vary, but this was the worst I've found. Let me know if you want it? Kent Armstrong Sky (WD) - very good for the money, pretty traditional P sound but again I found the cover was a bit oversized? EMG - I love. Can sound pretty P like if you turn the tone down, but a lot cleaner and also brighter if you want. Sounds great with flats. Battery can be a squeeze in a P bass, depands on the routing. And battery changing is a chore, but you don't have to do that very often. I currently use the DiMarzio. Hope that helps a bit BB
20. If you're anywhere near Bristol I've got two here under the stairs you're welcome to for nowt...old square hardboard type, one fits Fenders the other slightlly larger (came with a JD Supernatural). PM me for details.... BB
21. Lovely bass....enjoy it! BB
22. Glad to see the thread was useful. Mo has a great reputation for repair and set up - shame I live in Bristol and I'm never in London long enough to use his services... BB
23. I'd also suggest a very light rub with finest steel wool and a dab of gun stock oil (Truoil is the stuff MM uses for its current oil necks). Dries very quickly and easy to maintain. The other alternative, if its an old gloss laquer that still has some depth, is to give it a polish (car paint restorer, not wax polish..). It may come up shiny and hard...just depends what was originally applied and how much is left? BB
24. Yes, the J will hum if its a single coil, but you can get humbuckings designs in the same sized case. A P on its own is humcancelling, and a matched J pair will be hum cancelling when both on full - but back off the volume of either and it will hum like a bugger. Leo never designed the P and J to go together, so you'll find it hard to get a "matched" output from a PJ combo. Most makers just bung their existing P with their existing bridge J, so you may need to adjust the relative heights of each to get a more even output. BB
25. Sold some cables to Lee - first class transaction, and good communication. Highly recommended (and he's got some lovely basses...) BB
