1. Crowbar is still sh*t but they play metal. Intrepid fox is soso.
2. Ive mailed Bass gallery. See what they say. Be no crime to get down london, sample a few in the shawditch german beerhall, kick a few tables over in the crowbar and then drop my pickup off.
3. Thanks guys. Ive got a few options there.
4.
If you can afford it , replacing both pickups on your MIM Jazz with a better set may well considerably improve the overall sound of your bass . There are literally hundreds of different types of replacement Jazz pickups to choose from ( you will get plenty of suggestions on here as to which sort to go for ) and even some of the less expensive ones could be a lot better than the ones supplied with your MIM Jazz . If you are going to the trouble and expense of replacing one pickup , why not replace both and at least you are getting a substantial upgrade out of it ?
Hi. Yeah I would like to but it only cost me 200 odd quid so don't wanna go mad as I have my fav mm and precision. Just wanted the option for a backup or for one or two songs detuned etc. Are there decent passive ones which will require little more than like for like swap without replacing pots etc? Cheers Ben
5. Im sure i tried the pickup height, will give it another blast. What would you recommend replacing the neck pu with if needed? Is it the standard usa jazz passive one? Would that be as straight forward as soldering like for like. Im capable of that. Thanks again matey
6. Ive got 3 decent basses but the issue i have are different volumes swapping the basses. My MM is active and hot, the P bass and Jazz being passive are obviously quieter but are defo different to each other. My amp has the trusty 10 dB +/- which helps but its not exact. Good luck with the tuning
7. Ive recently joined a band and the tuning is all over the place. A lot of the grunge stuff like chains etc is already in Eb so the guitarists has decided to play all standard tuned songs in Eb. We then do a couple of tunes like sad but true in D (D, G, C, F). then we do a few sabbath numbers in C#. Then there are the drop D numbers, another tuning. quite a lot for a simple bass player
8. Hi Guys. Fat rich rich kindly gave some advice concerning this issue. Due to not playing bass for the latter part of 2012 i never got round to having a look, but now have. The neck pickup looked fine, no different to the bridge and no straggly windings. Is it possible that the volume pot has an issue and needs replacing? My mate gave me some EMG active pickups to put in it but due to some missing parts and my tiny brain, replacing a passive system with a active might be a bit much for me (unless it was one of those cool EMG no solder kits). Thanks guys
9.
Yep, i was at that gig, definitely my fav as well. Although we lived in inner London me and the GF had a free nights stay in the Hilton through her company. We got totally wasted on the free bar before the gig. Good times. I also saw a "secret" gig they did at the old Hammersmith Odeon. The stage was set up like an old western bar room and it was a very cozy feeling gig.
That sounds amazing. The small gigs are the best. Totally different but seeing machine head at the astoria and opeth at rockcity had a nice close up feeling.
10.
Ah yes, Live. I remember really liking them as well, i think i went and got their album the next day (i did the same with The Dan Reed network after they supported BJ a few years earlier). As i said in my first post i thought BJ were quite lacking compared to the earlier gigs but maybe it was also the fact that Hyde Park was not a good place to see them for me. Like you i was a big fan during the early years, but i can take them or leave them now but i do enjoy the old songs still. Loved their version of Dont like Mondays with God Geldof.
The best Gig i saw em at was when they just released These Days at Wembley in 1995 i think. They released a dvd of it. Ugly kid joe supported which was pretty cool in its day. they played dry county and dont like mondays for that gig. Mega. He has to be the best front man in hair/soft rock or whatever its called. His vocals on the slippery album for stuff like let it rock are amazing.
11.
You do realsie that the OP is not a man dont you ;-) I think we might have been at the same Hyde Park gig. Was that when they played Lola with Ray Davis?
Yeah, i think they did play Lola. amazing day out. i really liked Live before going as well so that was a treat. their throwing copper album is a goodun I was a mega fan of jovi in the slippery, faith, jersey days. Then they released These days which is a utter masterpiece and then went down hill from there IMO
12. Ah, just noticed you are female so the cracking birds may not be of interest.
13. Jovi are awesome live. I saw them in hyde park back in around 2003/2004 and the band "live" supported. Really good. Jovi played over a 3 hr set which is incredible thinking of the vocal range he has to perform and his age. I saw them at coventry and Nickleback supported them which was pretty nice. they get loads of grief but are a decent stadium band as well. they even covered cowboys from hell!!!!!! Do it, go and see them, they wont fail to impress, and the crowd will be full to the brim of cracking birds desperate to get in jovi's pants. So get the old blond wig, 30 inch waist 501s, and denim cut off waitcoat out and party!!!!
14. Cheers Lozz. Looks mega. is it true they have the USA pickups?
15. If you've got a day to kill get down Cambridge Blue, just off Mill rd down Gwydir st. Awesome selection of world beers. Ken stevens if pretty much standard cheap to moderate basses, DV have some slightly more exciting models.
16. Wow nice bass. Oh no, I live in Ely which isn't far and I have a bp in somersham on sat. You about sat?
17. Lovely bass shame your not closer to Cambridge. Do u know what the sound/feel is like compared to the fna?
18. There have been some seriously average bass players mentioned on this list - matey from AC/DC????? He does a job due to the type of music but i would never say he's underrated, he's not rated Now Martin Mendez from Opeth - now there is a bass player.
19. Hi all This may sound daft but ive got a pair of lj5's to stick in my mim jazz. Will they work on a 4 string ok. Cheers, ben
20. What a price. I have one of these and would not sell mine, but if had to it would be at least £200/£300 more than this so bargain city. Shame your not a bit closer to me, always wanted a maple fret.
21. Morning. Any chance of those extra pics of the headstock and bucklerash? Ta, Ben
22.
Are you suggesting there is some form of magnet apartheid?! Dan
Magnets have rights as well - come one come all
23. Ha - good point brensabre. I like clean new things tho It is sad really as i keep my MM and P bass all snug in their cases to keep em pristine and practice on my MIM Jazz and 5 string fretless which are old dogs in comparison.
24. Hello all I have 2 x rusty poles on my MM sterling. The E string ones where i sweat the most Now before you all tell me "there's loads of posts on this" mine seems a little weirder. Ive tried carefully removing the rust to apply the nail varnish as you all reccomend but it doesnt appear to be any silver colouring under it, just more black. Now me being a bit of a thicky i assumed it would be silver underneath or is this just a surface coating and goes when the rust does if you dont remove it early days? They havent rusted horrendously but look a bit naff close up. Be nice to have them all super silver again. Thanks
