1. These are the real sterlings - mega mega mega. Bargain price too. I love mine. Wish i had a maple fret
2.
Check Catalinbread SFT and run it with 18V instead of 9V
I dont understand, was that re my 9v issue? or was it a thumbs up for the Catalinbread SFT?
3. +1 again on the bdi21. i picked up one for a bargain £12 off ebay. The mains doesnt work on it (quite a common fault i believe) but the 9v battery does. Get a decent SVT/tube sound and if u crank the drive a bit more than the suggested settings in the manual you can get some serious overdrive. Sounds mega for some RATM tracks like know your enemy. I keep mine turned on all the time through the amps efx loop.
4. Come on you beauties - lookie lookie (however dont ignore like those goons abroad who would sell their mothers). These basses are ace. For £150 you are getting a serious bargain. IMO this will sound as good if not better than the mexican jazz's and P basses. Much more sound variety, and it wont kill your back as they are nice and light with a fast neck. Stop being trendy coz it doesnt say Fender - buy buy buy
5. Hi, i had one of these - the red wine gloss one - nice basses. I never shifted mine on here - not a lot of love for these. Mine eveutally went on gumtree for a scandelous price considering it cost me around £400 in 1999. Good luck
6.
see em at the albert hall for the blackwater park 10th anniversary 3hours of pure bliss best gig ever
X20 to that. Mindblowing. Apart from when poor Freds guitar stopped working through lotus eater. I nearly sh*t myself when they played harlequin forest and the moor.
7.
The Union Chapel is a fantastic venue! Saw Clint Mansell and the Sonus Quartet there a few years back. I'm a fan of Opeth too, but I didn't get into Heritage at all. And to be honest the acoustic portion of the show, on the last tour, bored the pants off me.
Heritage is weird - ive given it ages, excited me first few times round now it is probably my least listened to of the albums. Noooooooooooo - the acoustic bit was cool - esp that tune "throat of winter" off the god of war soundtrack. The guitar work on that is ludecrous. If this acoustic set is similar to that double set they did for the lamentations gig which included almost if not all of damnation, it will be wet pants all round!!
8. Blackwater park is a belter, but then anything still life onwards, for me is amazing start to finish. The early stuff is great live now, but the production and vocals on the actual albums are a bit poor and put me off a bit. My arms is pretty tasty though. Much love for the Peth. Lets hope the acoustic set isnt full of the usual Opeth clown fanbase that shout "play something heavy" at every opportunity. Bumpkins. Go a see lawnmower death and pig destroyer if you want chainsaw guitars and noise.
9. Thats the beauty of Opeth for me, the soft and metal vocals. I'm a huge fan of the melodic stuff but its also nice to have some metal riffing along the way with shouty stuff - a head banging song with death vocals along with nice intricate riffs and nice clean vocals - great stuff. I cant think of another band who does the change as well as peth. Opeth melodies and song structures are so memorable and catchy Listen to Still Life = epic. Then work your way up from that. Ghost reveries is also a perfect place to start. If you like his clean vocals then damnation is a winner. Heritage is a bit so/so for me. Some crackers on there, but he let himself down with some of the lyrics. Folklore of that album has lyrics like "hey you, will you, be true" and "feel the pain, in your brain, insane". hhahahahahahahahaha - stuff i would write. the song itself is excellent tho. Compare that to the earlier stuff which is like amazing poetry!!! The 2 bonus tracks of that album pyre and face in the snow should of been on the actual album. Do i sound obsessed!
10. Morning All Just thought I would spread the love and enquire if anyone is going to see acoustic Opeth set in london in Nov. The tickets all sold out ages ago but i found a few on ebay. Its going to be mega I feel like a right fanboy as ive also booked tickets to see them in nottingham rock city the same week !!! Best band for a long time - IMO
11. Still no luck lozz? i can vouch for lozz, he is a wonderful man!!!!! (even if he likes punk )
12. Ok mate. Well it won't be for another week or so I'm down in sunny Wycombe so someone else will likely jump in. If not I could be your man!
13. Hello. Ive been after a 2nd hand terror head for ages. My father in law lives in Hazelmere so im down your way a few times a month. The only reason i havent jumped for one 2nd hand yet is due to the fact DV offer 4-5 years warranty on a newie for £491. Is a warranty worth that? worse case senario you could claim on the house insurance if something went wrong i spose
14. Guys, you've been more than helpful. I will go through the tips and see what I can sort with it. I would like to get it sorted so its playable as I'm playing some pearl jam stuff in a band.
15. Thanks guys. Mine is like a fretted bass and the dot is between the frets. But on my tuner where the dot is for say the g on the e string its reading a f#. Need to sort the intonation.
16. Hi all Bare with me on this, im a bit of a thicky when it comes to the tech stuff. I bought a cheapy fretless bass not so long ago without the fret lines/dots, just the dots on the edge of the neck. The guy i bought it of said most fretless basses are tuned just past the next dot, as is this. Now being a fretted lad its pretty easy finding the notes generally without looking apart from the odd riff, but you try doing that on a fretless when the notes on the 3rd, 5th etc are just past the neck dots, its weird. Ive tried retuning so its as a standard fretted bass but its a bit over the place time i get much past the 9th - i will continue to tinker as at the mo im always flat or sharp when im playing Anyone else heard of this "tuning just past the dot" thing? Cheers
17. I know what u mean, US precisions are the bees, love mine, apart from the weight compared to my sterling but that makes me more manly!!! And, on a precision, i find when i wanna get all fieldy or basketball boy from tallica and start stomping about or play the bass vertical like some phallic love length, the strap catches on the fat bass body and can suddenly slip off (not entirely as i have the strap locks) causing the bass to judder. Nothing major Anyway - much love for musicman sterlings
18. Get yourself a USA sterling Lozz, you will fall in love. What happened to the usa stingray? I was hoping to getting a warwick fna jazzman the other week but had to wait for the owner to travel down from newcastle work related to cambridgeshire. Sadly he sold it before the trip.
19. Great, Thanks rob. If that plays as well as the FNA i played years ago when torn between that and my sterling, the planets will align and that shall be mine!!! (if its still available, fingers crossed)
20. St neots ain't far at all. If you still have it then, give me a buzz (pm'd number) and we can sort something out. I would take a punt and just buy and organise courier but I really need to play it first. Cheers, Ben
21. Oh God, this would make my collection complete, in my head anyway. Always wanted a fna. I live in Cambridge which is a bit of a trek to you. Does your business ever take you this far?
22. Sweet. I'm in Wycombe next weekend. If its still here and I take the plunge on the terror bass I will let u know . Cheers, Ben
23. When you say Marlow, is that the Marlow near Wycombe? If so I might be tempted if I get my terror bass this week
