1. Public FB album from last night https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10150945417434207.441870.528729206&type=1&l=6ab3d6463e
2. So we officially have reason to agree that playing a Warwick is eminently cool
3. I was in favour of the Like button exactly as it is on FB, where it saves posting +1s and Hear Hears (or "Here Here's"!) but doesn't get counted into a popularity contest. I'm against the Dislike option - I tend to articulate my opinion, if it's contrary to the one expressed by the poster and I'm willing to debate. Otherwise I forever keep my peace
4. Went to see Now Loaded and the other bands at Camden Rock tonight, and loved it. Thank you Mark for posting this gig! Photos to follow on FB - and one or two of them probably also on here - as soon as I've had time to review them.
5. +1 to binning IE and getting FF - works fine, although this site is still, occasionally, a bit slow (nothing to do with our browsers, and all to do with the hosting server, I reckon).
6. I'm determined to make it! Even if I will probably end up being the oldest person in the audience, what with the age of the average rock punter in Camden etc.
7.
I actually really like open strings, I don't think they sound bad at all, and play them a lot, seems odd not to, but on fretless or upright I use them even more as an intonation reference.
They don't necessarily sound "bad" but they muddle the sound when you play a lot of them in succession (E and A for instance, etc.). The same doesn't seem to happen on a DB. My NXT, however, has reference dots on its fingerboard so I try to fret the notes when possible.
8.
I do that and I find what's most interesting about it is that, often, I'm really not going to play exactly the same on the upright. It's likely to be simplified and to contain more open strings.
Yup, but that happens to me on the HB, which looks and - more importantly - sounds much more like a double bass than my NXT. On the latter, too many open strings sound as bad as they do on bass guitar, due to the type of strings it's got on and its passive electronics.
9. Hello and welcome! I'm a member of that other forum too
10. Beside the "hacked by" banner there were a few words in Arabic and a segment of a script. And some screen names made of upper and lower case letters. But I can't remember exactly what they were.
11. Until a few minutes ago I got a page with "hacked by the Muslim Hackers" or something to that effect.
12. Incidentally, has New Model Army's website been hacked...? If this is/was the correct one. http://www.newmodelarmy.org/
13. Welcome zipideebass from a fellow Warwick, NS EUB and low B string addict!
14. I've just copied your initial post on to the Bass Players In London's Facebook page. Hope you recover all of your gear.
15. Am I the only one who likes to try out on the upright the easier basslines I learn on bass guitar? Pop or rock, or whatever I've been learning at the moment, I will try just for fun, unless the bassline's too fast or jumps around the fretboard too much for my present skills.
16. Yay! Looks like fun! And you guys even had a little stage space to stretch out. Good to know you had plenty of punters The reason why there aren't more pubs with live music licences is probably the red tape and the noise regulations they have to comply with, as well as (I think) the extra insurance etc. - at least this appears to be the situation in London.
17.
I don't give a monkeys-chuffbox about what people think about stuff like this. You have to call it something. Even if you called it something really cool, like the 'The Cathedral In Worship Of The Sonic Rumble-Hammer', someone would pick fault. I think the fact that the site can be called asschat at certain angles is a bit of comic genius and makes the place all the more endearing. Myself, I came on here nearly 2 years ago asking questions about valve amps.. and ended up with a full on Matamp rig. In the meantime I have.. Made friends Fell out with people Apologised and made friends with them Been to gigs with BC'ers playing Bought gear Sold gear Received top notch pro-advice Had bass lessons Auditioned for a name band Auditioned for unknown bands Met with other BC'ers in real life and got drunk with them Bought a Basschat shirt that was too big Won a competition I think Basschat is great, who cares about the name.... PS. Next weekend I'm off to see my pal in Brighton, and guess what? Our very own Big Red X is playing with Dick Venom and the Terror-tones, and I'm going. Plus I might be able to get a try-out on a Lakland Decade belonging to a fellow BC'er. How cool is that? Thank you asschat!
I've only been here 7 months, but in such a short time I have been helped with my bass playing by this site's collective knowledge, been inspired to purchase and play new gear I wouldn't otherwise have considered, found new friends I really, really like, and been to other members' gigs, alone or with other BCers. And hopefully I've contributed to the site a little bit too, with tiny nuggets of advice on the few things I know about, and by trying to organise real life meetups. Long may BC continue to thrive
18. Tempted! I need to check whether I can make it there in time - if I can, I'll be there. Off to like your band's FB page. Hopefully see you tomorrow!
19.
......and no lefty's?
Exactly. Quite galling, seeing that the model is promoted by Macca.
20. LOL I agree that being banned over that is out of order.
21. As far as I'm concerned, the song I'm playing will suggest, or even dictate, the bass I play it with - be it because it needs 5 strings, or because it sounds more rawk 'n roll on one or the other, etc. I've got multiple basses but they are all different, and suited to different uses.
22. I'm intrigued. Please do tell us what you said.
23. Have fun at your gig, Geoff - post photos if you get any taken. Hopefully the weather should be less dreadful today. And when you get to see the luthier, keep us posted on his work on your bass - the info will be useful to others who may be in the same predicament.
24. By the way, I've found an article among my DB-related bookmarks that may be of some help, even if only to know what the luthier will have to do, if you prefer not to work on your bass yourself: http://www.dennishavlena.com/bassetup.htm Looks very basic but it has drawings an' all
25.
Not only do I waste entire evenings on BC, but it's opened up a new social life for me where I actually get out the house, meet real people and listen to their music. BC's enough for me. I think there will be a point where BC overtakes Twatter and Facebunk
Yes! In the meantime I'm on all three, as well as on real life
