1. Welcome, Charlie! So jealous you can relaxedly have a "side portion" of jazz and fusion - I wish I was able to play any of that, as a side or main... Basschat is on Twitter too, as @basschatuk, so feel free to follow us if you like.
2. Bassist girl shaking her bum to the groove - and welcoming you in the fold
3. Hello and welcome! Other than by word of mouth in your local area, you could try finding a band by putting an ad in music shops or, if there are any nearby, music colleges and schools. Or with the help of websites such as http://www.joinmyband.co.uk/classifieds/london-f14.html, http://www.bandmix.co.uk/, http://www.gumtree.com/music-bands-musicians-djs/london, etc. Good luck!
4. Two brand new sets of 4 Rotosound strings (RB40 and RB45) Unused because roundwound (I bought them before falling in love with flats in general and D'Addario Chromes in particular).

6. No, please, let the place have a roof, you/we are going to need one if the weather goes on like this...
7. The speed is still erratic on my machines. Very slow the couple of times I've logged on in the last few minutes. I believe that there is a corollary of Sod's Law which states that you can't reproduce an error or a glitch when you need to troubleshoot it...
8. Oh. My. God. The gig was Awe-friggin'-some! The kind of jazz-fusion-funk with unbelievable bass playing that I luuurve Took a few gigabytes of footage and the usual billion photos, all of which will eventually have to be sorted. Met Chris, Martin and Kirsty of Overwater and gassed to death. Only thing that saved me emptying my wallet this time was the absence of lefty models, which the guys are planning to fix soon by creating an entire new line of lefty basses
9. LOL - the slow response tends to be erratic, and the site is OK for me too, at this very moment. We'll see what happens after the weekend.
10. The site has been very slow to load on my FF in the last couple of days. That only happens on basschat.co.uk so I guess it's nothing to do with my ISP or setup. Anyone else having the same problem again?
11. I don't see any reason why bowing and plucking should be perceived as mutually exclusive - they obviously aren't, in fact they're complementary. I think most of our debate here focusses on whether it's more helpful to learn to play DB with a bow or pizzicato. Personally, i've started with the latter (on an EUB) but I'm gassing for a bow and love learning new things - and eventually I'll find a way to get a real double bass
12. Good! Please start a thread under Gigs and I'll put it in the diary
13. LOL It was a pleasure to see you, Paul, and the other guys from Jump 66, this time not just on stage at a distance but also close enough to have a chat! I'm sorting the photos and vids and will be in touch soon. And it was great to have Jack and Paul the Junkyard Dogs drummer there too. Fantastic night - we should do this more often!
14. Hm, that behaviour is definitely not on. I've tweeted the article (as BC) and mentioned Dan as the owner of the bass (I did so before reading the more recent posts in this thread.). Hopefully I won't have to shame NoTreble into an acknowledgement at some point in the future, but I won't hesitate if necessary.
15. I'll be at another gig, or I'd pop down too. Have a great one and post photos!
16. Congrats! Well jel!!!! I so want one too I don't think it's necessary to learn to bow in order to learn to play double bass - I can't bow to save my life but I'm doing progress on the upright nevertheless. I'm sure you know that there is a special technique for plucking a double bass - you shouldn't apply the plucking style you use on your bass guitar, or you'll risk cramps and tendon problems. I'm sure our experts will come to your aid with more detailed advice. In the meantime, look at videos of double bass players and keep your eyes on their hands - and notice their pizzicato style. Usual series of vids for absolute beginners, just to get you started: http://www.ehow.com/videos-on_2584_play-upright-bass.html Enjoy your DB! You'll fall in love with it
17. Well done, and all the best for the gig! I'm in the wrong part of the country to attend, but I hope you'll see many Geordie basschatters there. Post photos of the gig if/when you have them
18. It's good to have you here, Blablas. Welcome - please do keep posting also on other threads. There is a lot we can learn from you.
19. I'm ofFendered that there's no other choice. I would not want to go without a bass, then again, as someone suggested, taking your significant other would probably be an even better choice PS I did not vote! So there
20. Thank you all! Glad you like the album. Clarky, I also took a photo of that lineup board - I'll add it to the slideshow
21. As I mentioned on your FB page, I'll be there with a few other Basschatters and my camera. We'll probably end up creating a massive photoblog
22. Photo of our Clarky on double bass: Slideshow of the entire set of photos (15 pics). There are more, but these should give an idea of the gig
