1.
i have finally cut down my choice of PUP's to either the SD's or the wizards. Anyone used both and can compare? Any help would be great thanks.
I had 1st Fender Noiseless then SD QP then Wizard 84's on my Warmoth jazz .. Wizards sound the best to my ears .. more character (perhaps a bit brighter than other 2) .. however I put some Nordstrand Big Singles in other jazz .. they're my favourites ones ! Si
2.
On the back of Mikey's dairy and course threads, I figured I ought put one up ready for photos and the like. I'm attending Jon Shukers workshop in July also. My plans are 5 string Jazz in satin red stain with black Gotoh hardware all over and thinking about an East J-retro Preamp. The trouble is I can't decide whether to have a black scrtach plate and the black control board or go au-naturale and have neither? I love the straight line of descending size pots look, and the East has a three-band mid-sweepable EQ on stacked pots in chrome or black. Other than that, 34 inch scale, 22/24 frets, 3 up, 2 down tuners and Seymour Duncan Vintage PUPs. Any recommendations? Cheers Chris
I recently sold my moded GL jazz to Will (2x18) & that has black control & really nice texalium scratchplate .. he might have some better pics than me by now .. also I'd consider the Nordstrand Big Singles (got them in EMG 35 size) .... good luck with the build ! Si
3.
Cab is as new condition 4 ohms and flight cased. The head is also flight cased and as new. Looking for a markbass rig thats in the same condition. 6 x 10 cab with a 500 watt plus head.
Your current rig sounds (on paper) pretty good .. can't comment on that but I have a MB Classic + 610 ..... haven't had it long but every time I keep saying ''what a sound !'' unbelieveable !! Am currently looking at the MB R500 to go in this 15 2U combo I've got & take as spare at important (or paid ! lol) gigs .. bet that sounds great with the 610 ! So sorry .. not looking at trades but thought I'd just give you my opinion of the MB rig ! cheers Si
4. Looking for £50 for Kappa (each) & £30 for Gamma (each) .. not sure about delivery charges (Kappa's are over 7kg!) .. would prefer pickup or could deliver myself if not too far .. if interested in trades just let me know what you've got ... http://www.bkelec.com/Pro/Drive_Units/Emin.../KappaPro10.htm http://www.bkelec.com/Pro/Drive_Units/Eminence/Gamma10.htm cheers Si
5. Seem to have been removed .. guess I'll have to take some myself if anyone wants to see it but you'd be better off coming & trying it out ! Si
6. As the topic description states .. same quality but need something lighter to go in my combo (2U !!) .. pref >8kg ...... Si
7. Funny you should mention the Schroeder coz I have the cab but not the head ! ... Almost did a deal with Jesse for his Ampeg head but he changed his mind ... pity coz I bet they would have sounded ace together ! (+ I'd have probably saved 2k & not bought the Markbass rig but wouldn't go back now !) 410 or 212 but @ 4Ohms might do the trick ?! Si
8. Having the proper tools does help .. just make sure you rout the holes out enough .. actually only split it not totally broken off but stays in tune just fine now .. well ask Will in a year or two !! Si
9. Nordstrand Big Singles (Stan Hinesley 5-way sel. switch) !! Si
10.
interesting Do they look like these ones http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...E:X:RTQ:GB:1123
That's right ! .. think they are No12's .. pretty decent tuners. Si
11. What model are they exactly ? (link just goes to B&C page but not specific model) cheers Simon
12.
You really do need to try a GOOD passive bass! Alex
Well put Alex !! Not a fan of 'active' myself (EMG's seem to 'honk' a bit to me) .. Bongo I 'had' had an awesome preamp but still prefer passive (singles) .. my 2c Simon

Cheers Will ... really nice meeting you (& ofcourse doing business) !! see you again mate .. Simon
14. Had a Boss BF3 (flanger/chorus) but switched to an EBS Unichorus .. thought it sounded much better ! Si
15.
Hmmm!! I'm just down the road in Barnsley. Where will I find him?
Give him a call 01484 542139
16. Cheers, but still wish you'd sold me that Ampeg ! .. bet that would've sounded ace with the Schroeder (and saved me sh't loads of money but no matter (wouldn't go back now !)) .. hopefully recording soon, sort of 'live' but mic'd up etc in a studio .. will post on here when I get a cd ,, see how the MB rig sounds (will expose my shoddy technique ! ha ) .. can't wait .. !! later Si
17. Just had 1st rehearsal with Markbass CL106 & Classic head .. gain @ 80%, eq=flat, master vol '1' !! loud as hell .. same head thru Schoeder 410L but master vol on 3-4 .. even tho Schoe = 4Ohm & MB=6Ohm I guess the 2 extra speakers make a difference (or perhaps where you're standing if the Schroe projects like they say) .. still both very portable ! 26kg & 34kg resp. I believe. Can't really compare to other brands but think I've found the perfect rig for me .. time will tell. Simon
18.
I did enjoy having a Schroeder. Perhaps one day I shall have one again when I feel like a change. I am surprised this hasn't had any publicised interest yet... How is the Markbass working out? Mark
Markbass head sounds fantastic (to my humble ears) but have only played it once at rehearsal with the Schroeder cab so far .. just got the MB CL106 cab back this morning coz it was being 'flightcased' .. will be test driving it on Monday but am guessing the speakers still need breaking in .. will also be doing a sort of 'live' recording soon so I'll post something when it's done .. let everyone slag it off ! lol thanks for the interest Mark ! cheers Simon
19. As good as new (bout 6 months old I think), never gigged or even used in rehearsal (probably on turned on about 10 times I reckon). Pretty sure it's this model .... http://www.ashdownmusic.com/bass/detail.asp?ID=6 Guy who's selling it is PaulMan (luthier in Huddersfield) .. think he's asking £350 (ex p&p) for it .. anyway here's his details so best to give him a call etc (he also makes fine basses & guitars!) PaulMan 01484 542139 http://www.paulman.co.uk/other_models/index.html cheers Simon
20. Hi all, Can anyone help with the following .. I need a replacement part for my Steinberger XS Synapse but even the dealer I bought it off can't source it ! It's a cast cylinder that slots into the underside of headstock & allows for normal strings to be fitted (threaded thru then clamped down with hex grub) it's the E (4th) string one I'm after ... ? guess I over tightened it but it didn't take much ! cheers Simon
