1.
Bongo arrived chez Macko this morning & it is a killer. Salute to Si who was a pleasure to deal with.
Likewise Macko .. would've given an even better deal if you'd bought PJB as well ! cheers mate Si
 2.
Any Pics of:- tiltback/wheelable 15" spruce ply sealed cab with 2U rack space = £150 (Eminence neo Kappalite 450w 8Ohm)
No pics as yet but will try take some later .. however Alex (alexclaber) said that this speaker is not suitable for a 'sealed' cab .. so might need porting but does actually sounds pretty good .. Simon
 3. If I can make it I'll bring Warwick Tubepath + PJB cab, maybe a Bongo if any one wants to try it. Simon
 4. Thanks guys .. gonna get a proper cab .. got a week off soon so will be checking a few out. Any recommendations would be great .. Geddy Lee'esk growl on a little steroids ! sort of sound I'm after but not sure whether should do 2x12 or 4x10 ?? cheers Simon
 5. Regarding 'Geddy Lee' .. will start with the 'bad' 1st - headstock split whilst replacing tuners but have had it glued by pro luthier who ensures me this will not occur again (atleast not in the same place) .. I trust him coz he'd used the same industrial strength glue to repair my bro's les paul snapped headstock (which was much worse) & it stays in tune just fine, unfortunately whilst he had GL clamped he knocked it over & chipped it a little, don't feel it whilst playing tho. - block inlays could have been finished better & you can feel them a bit if you run your finger along fretboard, think this is common to GL model 'good' points tho matter of taste ... - black hardware (wilkinson tuners, badass II, control plate powder coated, metal knobs) - texalium scratchplate - sanded / stained & waxed body, removed veneer top layer to show 3 piece alder body but left most of veneer on back (does appear a bit purple on pic but it's not .. black stain) - all new pots v/v/t Would ideally like anyone interested to come & check it out rather than receiving something that might not resemble the pics coz it's actually darker than on photos. Will be going down to Cardiff again in Feb (week 3) & probably over to P'boro N Essex. Am only considering parting coz I've 2 other jazzes, a Warmoth with same neck thickness as GL & a custom jazz built by same luthier which puts em all to shame imho ! Si
 6. Copy n pasted n edited earlier post .... Time to 'bite the bullet' .. totally down scaling .. too many amps & basses Gonna get an all valve head & maybe a 'proper' cab .. rest has to go, it's sad coz it's all good stuff but I guess I'm not the 1st to find that their style & tastes change. Have posted most of these before but they really need new homes now .. going for about half price ... - Phil Jones 6pack & 9B cab = £1000 - Warwick Tubepath 10.1 = £450 - tiltback/wheelable 15" spruce ply sealed cab with 2U rack space = £150 (Eminence neo Kappalite 450w 8Ohm) - Engl Thunder head & 2x12 V30 cab (guitar) = £600 Will probably going down to Cardiff come mid Feb & maybe Essex way to get my amp & then probably back to Cardiff before heading home to sunny Bradford. Give us a call or txt for further etc .. emails might take longer as I don't have regular access. cheers Simon 07796846935

 8.
Not gosh awful, but not great. You need to be looking at driver spec sheets for an EBP rating of between 50 and 75 for best results. This happens to generally equate with cheaper drivers that more than likely will have other performance issues and limitations. The demand for high quality drivers for sealed cabs is zilch, ergo there are very few to be found.
Thanks for all the advice .. but just how does Bergantino do it with his NV series ? I heard only fab reports/reviews, these are sealed & I don't Mark Bass do a CL range (again sealed) ? .. so do they make their own ? I'm gonna get a new all valve head (Eden E300T) & want a suitable cab but might just have to 'bite the bullet' & cough up for a 'real' cab ! lol Any recommendations guys ? cheers Simon
 9.
If you're set upon using a sealed cab then you need to use woofers with a high Qts. You should be looking at speakers where the EBP (Efficiency Bandwidth Product) is at the most 100 and ideally under 50. To calculate EBP find out Fs and divide it by Qts. I wouldn't recommend using woofers with an Fs much above 60Hz or below 40Hz for a sealed bass cab so you should be aiming at a Qts of between 0.4 and 0.6. If you can't find out the Qts then just try to avoid drivers with big magnets because magnet strength tends to be inversely proportional to Qts. Alex
How bout 2 of these Alex ? I know a guy who recone etc & he recommended these (plus he'll do a good price) http://www.usspeaker.com/fane%20col%2012mb-1.htm Stevie .. I can build a sealed cab myself but ported or reflex is too much hassle .. actually am only going to cut-down cab I've already done & probably get flightcaseuk to put a 'finishing' touch on it = cab/flightcase in 1 .. still looking at other cab options but haven't even got my new amp yet ! cheers Simon
 10. To all you 'experts' ha .. kidding, but a bit of advice is more than welcome ..! Having gone against previous advice about mixing different speakers in a cab I built myself a 4x10 (shelved cab in half but still all wired series/parallel so basically still 4x10) .. had the speakers so thought what the f... never done it before but am more than pleased except for the weight .. so thought I might have another go but do a 2x12 (1 on top of other) again a 'sealed' cab .. what speakers to use ? .. been looking at celestions bn300x or something but guess there are a few option ? will be using valve head (when I get it) thanks in advance guys .. Simon ps. got loads of stuff to sell
 11. So does anyone on here have a Hiwatt Custom 200 (or 400) ? I'm wanting to try one out but looks like the only way is hiring it for £50 !! cheers Simon
 12. I got an Eden N8 40watt (£70) .. great sounding little combo for home use !! Got a superfly head which I don't use but you'd need a cab to go with it. Si

 14. Just wondering if any of you could give your opinions / views / experience on valve amps ? Really interested in the new Reeves Custom 225 & the Hiwatt Custom models .... 16.
Hi I'm going to have a chnage in my Se Jazz, currently running Bartolini soapbars and Bart' 3band pre amp. Both p/ups have cil taps Thinking about going for a mix of J-retro as I really like these pre's and thats based on previous experience. Thinking about going Nordstrand for p/ups. Fat stacks look like they will do the job, what various web sites have to say about them sounds like they will work for me. Modern sounding but with a coil tap giving a more old skool sound if needed. But then there are the The Big Splits, they may also do the job, I'm inclined to go with fat stacks but figured I'd ask on here first So anyone experienced any of these p/ups? Cheers Tony
Can't really answer your question Tony but I'm considering replacing EMG with a Fatstack too .. I do have a jazz with 2 Big Singles .. best I've heard IMHO

 20.
Hi Si. Did warmoth do your sanding?
No, luthier in Huddersfield did it (Paulmann) & has made us a 'jazz' since then which is even better than Warmoth .. wenge/ebony neck .. gorgeous !
 21.
Thanks for the heads up. I really want skinny. Allparts say they can shave a neck to my spec, but then the warranty is lost. Looks like the 62RI is the spec for me, but they dont come with the blocks ... There is a walnut neck on ebay at the moment. Any thoughts ... cheers.
I've a Warmoth GL type & had it sanded down to same spec with no issues other than it still feels sturdier than GL ! Si

 23. Can't comment on Sadowsky, but do prefer 'black' basses in general .. having some Big Singles in a custom jazz so will let you know what I think of em when it's done & will A/B it with Warmoth jazz (wizard 84's). Si
