Told it before IMS, but a friend of my uncle had horns through several floors in his house, starting in the basement where the turntable and the amp were, and finishing in the lving room where he'd listen to the music. So he'd put on a record and jump up the stairs, always arriving too late to hear the beginning. Bliss!

Looking from a distance, I feel no attraction to a tribute band gig, but I'm also aware that if I actually went to one, I'd immerse myself and most probably have a blast. IOW, I'd go if something was close enough to where I live. It's all just a bit of fun, not a philosophical debate. For me, a vastly more important distinction is whether they play exactly like the albums or not. This is probably the reason I've never seen Genesis back in the days, as they were reportedly terribly close to the studio albums when playing live. But I'd probably go and see The Musical Box nevertheless, for the sheer fun of the immersion blast.

I've been to a lot of Bach and Strawinsky tribute shows. Music was always good, but they tend to dress poorly, really looking nothing like the originals. I think I'm done with this now.

I'm building a bitsa Jazz but with a wildly more modest outcome in mind (as long as it has two Jazz pups and Jazzy-ish electrics, I'm satisfied), and already that modest one will be more expensive than a CV, as each part is bought separately. But I like the work, so I don't care. Mine: (pricing IMS) Neck £100 Pups £140 Electronics £230 (John East Deluxe) Bridge £50 Strings £50 Body wood £20 or more (hardwood) Templates: £30 or so Pickguard: £30 or so Jack: ? A CV here costs £400 Based on that, I'd guess yours would be more expensive than that again, and maybe even more than twice the price of a CV, if you go the same route of separately bought parts, especially if the parts need to be exactly as specified. No idea about costs when following another path.

Reportedly, the Bongo with only one humbucker will be able to come quite close to the StingRay sound. The others are said to be simply unable to do that. From my noob perspective, the Bongo with two pickups does not have that typical rasp, and has a huge, fat, very detailed hi-fi sound. Thunderous. I [i][b]said[/b][/i] noob!
