1. Lovely story. Thanks for sharing. I think I'd have loved to be there. best, bert
 2. Moving up pricewise, yes? I don't know those basses, but can't imagine anything but that they'll both be awesome. In that price range there's dozens upon dozens of well-working things, and Yamaha and Ibanez certainly are amongst them. Just in case: you do realise the RBX 375 is a 5-stringer, yes? The 4 string version is called RBX 374. From what I've read on BC, the SR 300 (assuming there was a typing error in "SB 300") has a very effective mids knob. I fail to remember what it does, but I'm sure you know by now. Are you comfortable with the idea of two humbuckers? I like it, but the classical setup for flexibility is said to be 1 hb and 1 sc. best, bert
 3.
saw this earlier today and thought the neck seemed pretty standard ... the penny just dropped that is a rather large neck
Ain't it indeed? At least for a Jazz neck. That is what bothers me most. You specifically order a Jazz neck, and then this! I'm getting worried about technique here, cause I do prefer to place my thumb right on the skunk stripe whenever possible, and only move it up or down when required for demanding passages. best, bert
 4.
Have you got really big hands?
No, but I do have really cold feet now!
If it's being built, is it not a case of "tough" as far as the maker is concerned? I don't know many places refund custom orders. What was the comment about the body?
Happily, it's not a custom, though indeed I would have reckoned things like these only come as customs. As to the body, I posted the demands for the neck pocket above.
Going to play Stonehenge on it?
Stonehenge the venue? Maybe. Stonehenge the song? Don't know it. Stonehenge the board game? Dunno if that's possible. Will see. "Stonehenge" the ex-wife? Don't think so! best, bert
 5.
GIve me good old feet and inches, we never got confused when I was a lad.....
I don't have enough hardwood for inches, let alone for feet, but thanks for the idea. My next project maybe.
carve it into a canoe!
Wow, that was the bestest idea I've ever heard! I could make myself another Greenland style sea kayak, 52-54cm wide and 26cm high. A bit low for most, but I do sit quite comfy in a low kayak. Thanks!
Can't wait to see the amp you are going to drive with that baby.
Hadn't even thought that far ahead, but now you write this, there is an avatar on BC with a grand 810. I'll contact the owner. He might take the phone up there. Edit: It's Barkin, and it's a 610 (yes, I know about scale math). Have a look: best, bert
 6. If I compare the little I know about 25 years ago with the little I know about today - - basswise that is - - buying a cheapish bass then was a lot more risky than it is today. So at least as to quality you're quite safe when buying any of the ones proposed. We have more ideas in stock as well, so just keep sending info and asking more. Can you remember anything about what you like as to necks? This might be the most important factor. Do you remember anything about string distances, fretboard radius and the like? What style(s) are you thinking of playing? IMHO not the most important issue, but important enough for some. best, bert
 7. Thanks! Can I assume the neck pup is at the original place then? Looks interesting and relatively cheap at the same time. best, bert
 8. Hi Mick, Welcome to BC. Teach us newbies sumten. As to cheap basses, what I think I've learned from here is that the Yamaha RBX is great, and beats the hull out of the Ibby in the same price range. For RBX prices (roughly), Squier do a short scale Jaguar without all the switches, whilst a 34" scale Jaguar is somewhat more expensive (here in Norway at least). Alos have a look at a used Squier CV (or VM). Don't remember if they come in Jaguar (think they do), but at least come as Precision and Jazz. Good luck with the chase! Enjoy! best, bert
 9.
Makes Steinberger look hopelessly over engineered.
Fantastic! Yes, I'll do that. Now reteach me: I get quarter tones that way, yes? j-best, j-bert
 10. Sorry to say I was taken in by the seller's description "replacement neck". Now I wasn't really gonna put it on an existing Jazz, but I thought I'd build a body out of a huge piece of old hardwood I still haven't used after decades. Should have seen the signs though. The neck pocket demands were actually precise and not hidden deeply in the text at all. EVILBAY!!!! best, bert
 11. Folks, Just having ordered a J neck - - cheaply I must add, seeing the amount of wood that is involved - - I'm getting cold feet because I never thought of the body required. What say you? best, bert
 12.

Looks great. What is it? best, bert
 13.
I don't care
You don't care, therefore you are ... ???
 14.
I just noticed the signature of tauzero...
WHAT! You didn't read my post about it a few weeks back? Sacrilege if I ever sawrit. That said, Tauzero's sig must be one of the best ever. At some point, somebody needs to explain it to the lucky ones who did not have Latin in secondary school. D*mmit, I just remember they even taught us Latin in music college because of the Gregorian chant. Never taught us this though. I may have to write a Gregorian chant on these lyrics. With added fretbuzz for cheap Spector. OK then, for the lucky ones: (look away if you don't wanna see the spoiler) Coitum = the act of copulation volatilum = state of being airy, up in the air, flying non = not dono = I give Cool or what? best, bert
 15.
Oooops! Cheers bud
You're welcome, of course. But do you have any, ANY idea about how this came about? The page code seemed to show a correctly set up link with free text, but with the freetext taking up the link space and vice versa. I'm wondering coz I'd like to write links on BC with only the freetext showing. That way the server uses less bandwidth (no vid visible) whilst the links still being very clear to the reader. best, bert
 16. Hi Eckie, Welcome to BC! Feel free to be part of the banter and enlighten us. Enjoy! bert
 17. As far as I understand, we've never established whether the neck is slightly twisted or is irregular. Have we? Since I'm a newbie, I can't delve into this, but my Axl's neck was twisted, and no choice of action would make it silent. Many decades ago, I was also trying to play a guitar that had a bump on the fretboard. Thought it better to mention it and be wrong than leaving it unmentioned. best, bert
 18.
the flipping bridge is 6 quid now, not £5.10!
Ah! Thanks for letting us know. Also, it finally explains your facial expression: Commiserations, lad. best, bert
 19.
Dude's pretty stylin. Figured I'd try an cop his style, does it work for me?
SoCoSaK (streams of coffee on screen and keyboard). Please don't do that to me anymore. Now where's the socosak smiley when you need it? best, bert
 20. I think it's about time we get off Wishface's back. best, bert
 21. Hi Scanbran, Welcome to the surface! Keep on enjoying and don't be a stranger. Lovely about your daughter getting the short scale. best, bert
 22. Prego, Ghiandaia azzurra. I thought of writing down the text in English, but it seemed hardly worth it, as one just knows what's being said. "What a great sound", "They were great builders in the old days", "I'm so happy I'm allowed to play the thing", etc. arrivederci, alberto
 23.
Note to self - vet everything I ever write on this site, ever
Noooooo! I learned this from my ex: "Every error is a gift. Present it with joy and receive it with gratitude. Have fun." She struggling with Dutch, and me with Norwegian, we've had a lot of joy from these things. best, bert
 24.
I think in that context it would be "cue". But I didn't want to say! :-)
Yeah, but I had a [s]pendant[/s] penchant for "queue". Slightly more fun that way.
