I'm relieved you're not rich. 1120517 and 1120518 hated each other, and I don't see how reconciliation could be possible. In the same vain, a decade or so ago, I sold a used cd with my name in my writing under the tray. Recently I bought a copy of that CD again that was sold as New Old Stock. Yup, you guessed it: I got my "own" cd back. (Why would I write my name there? So friends who borrow can check when they're unsure whether they own it or not. Lent them out by the dozens - hundreds even - to good friends. They could have them for years, and could eventually easily forget who owned what.) best, bert

Thanks, Bluejay! Sweet Water may just be it, and seeing what they are compared to (Mudhoney, Pearl Jam ... ) I can well imagine that they sounded quite punk live. Their looks are certainly exactly like the band I saw back then. Funny you should come up with Bad Brains. I knew they toured with LC later, but had no idea about '93 They were even mentioned at the concert, by the young lads, but I never understood the whole sentence. It may have been that they were sorry Bad Brains couldn't make it that evening, for example. I'll delve more into this. Now I have a name to check at least. Thanks again! best, bert

Did anyone see Living Colour during the '93 "Stain" tour? This was Doug Wimbish's first tour with them, IMS. So: who were the supporting act? They were a bunch of middle class youngsters who did this type of polite American punk that was "en vogue" at the time. FWIW, I think they'd all got permission from their moms and dads to go out and travel in Europe. Have been wanting to know this since ... er ... '78 or so, if memory serves. best, bert

That, and the support they can give each other on every level. Worth gold, imho. You may just have made a very, very good decision there. Yeah, do some Spice Girls songs. Berated as they may be, that first album contained some great writing. Notes, that is. I'm lyricsdeaf. best, bert

BC's new classifieds section - your opinions please
BassTractor replied to ped's topic in General Discussion
For me it lacks the charm that the discussion gave the old forum. Could be some great info there often. Now, sadly, it doesn't attract me anymore. That said, I'd probably look if I was on a hunt, but the GAS doesn't sneak up on me anymore. best, bert -
I'm a little late. Sorry. My 297 miles turned out to be Norwegian miles. And that's 1,548 English miles more than I'd imagined. BUT I'm running the fastest I can. C-y'all in a while! best, bert

Yup. I find myself humming quite some old songs every now and again. Also walk around in the Quo jacket most days of the year: Refined taste indeed! best, bert
How do folk decide to change basses, or sell ones that they love?
IME there's more pain in a loved item sold than in a lusted item unbought. So when I must sell something to get something else, I'll probably show quite some restraint. Up to now however, with the bass that is, I've avoided this situation, rather saving money ruthlessly. No car, no drinking, no smoking, no cinema, etc. etc. etc. Every spoonful of rolled oats makes me smile at the thought of the next bass or Barefaced coming closer. best, bert
Oh, one time i plugged in my iPod and played rage against the machine. I then told them that it was my band, and i wrote the song. They all said it was good and they would listen to it if it was available to buy.
Yeah, that was immature, and you were a fool for not using Biohazard instead. At the very least you could've played 24-7 Spyz! Nice story! Funny stuff, stuff like that. I've pulled a lot of it in my days. Problem was when the situation didn't allow for a correction, and people would still believe it years later, like when I'd so-called "impregnated a sixteen year old American school girl in Paris", and my best friend's mother didn't wanna know about me for a very long time, coz she would not believe the truth, but would believe the lie. Bassman Sam, you do need to lighten up a bit, "opinion" or not. You weren't there. You don't have the complete picture. best, bert -
Dealing with Tony was a great joy. I'd not be reluctant bidding on his wife on a later occasion. But seriously, he's just one of those great guys that make BC something special. All the best, Mr. Claret! bert

This is as bad a place as anywhere to say: Apa, you've got the most beeoootiful collection of basses I've seen. Same probably goes for your collection of ex/present/future Mrs APAs Oh, and congrats, Stoker. Have a nice day! best, bert

Short scale for less than £200! Perfect for little hands!
I forgot about this thread
"Just when I thought I was out... they pull me back in." Milton Corleone
I knew it was that price Bert...
Ah! Wondered about that, but decided it was better to mention it for those who hadn't followed the link.
I think that would be a bit too short scale for my personal liking.
Yeah, it's very hard to play on. But I guess it's a nice challenge. I'm certainly buying one. Fascinating little thing. Just always to remember: no sliding note is ever false! I'm always wondering whether it would be possible to get the same sound from a stiffer material that would allow for somewhat longer strings. I'd love to have a 30" or 32" one like that in addition to a regular EUB. best, bert -
Hey Rob, Welcome to you, the second Rob in a few days to introduce himself here. I think we shall have to name you Toby then, as Leen suggested refinedly and wisely. What an interesting c.v. you got there, or maybe "intriguing" is a better word. You must surely tell us more later. For the time being, it's enough you played the instrument with the unbelievably sexy name of "flugal horn". Only thing more sexy must be my own flaginal horn. Bedroom warrior, me too though. Wouldn't dare play it in public. When I grow up, I'll play bass, synths, drums and guitar, just like you. Synths (pro) and bass (noob) for now though. Anyway, enjoy the banter 'n' bollox. best, bert
(don't listen to Bert, I heard he invented the bass guitar!)
Shoosh! Since it's out now: yes, I did, in 1849 or so. Had no money to post the patent application though. Now, more than 16 decennia later, I still have to learn to play it, so I feel it's reasonable that I be called a "noobe", just like I was back thenne.

Hey Fabini, Welcome to BC! Nice enthusiastic intro you wrote too. Sandbergs are well respected here. I guess you knew what you were doing when investing in them. So, what amps do you have then? Have you played for many years? Enjoy! best, bert
Darwin's theory of evolution by natural selection is a theory and not a fact.
For clarity purposes (if it helps for something): Yes, but that sentence in itself can be taken two ways - and will be because of people's different reference frames - one of them being that a fact is of higher status than ("just") a theory, whilst in the scientific world, a theory is based on facts and as such, facts are the lower components and theories are at the highest level. BTW, I see that several people beat me to it. My previous post is in no way an answer to anything else than the OP. best, bert
Why is it called theory. A theory suggests to me that how something happens or works is unknown but the available evidence suggests something or is a well informed educated guess. Music works to well known sets of rules and conventions (which I know can be broken in the right context i.e if it sounds right). I feel I am not studying a theory but rules guided by the laws of physics.
It's called 'theory' because it has been called that for more than 2 millennia at the least. It's an (analytical) look at. There's a Roman, and probably Old-Greek or older etymology here. I don't know of any relation of the term to your everyday 'theory' description as an educated guess, or its totally different scientific counterpart, where a "theory" is the highest form of evidenced, accepted explanation of observed phenomena - - what one in everyday language would call the "proven" stuff. Music Theory contains Music Psychology, and in part tries to explain why and how music works the way it works. BTW, I like how you word "rules guided by the laws of physics". IME too few grasp that aspect, and too many express views along the lines of: "the theory mafia is not gonna make the rules for me - I'll do what I effing want thankyou", completely disregarding both the hindsight core of theory and its view at physics as an explanation rather than as a strait-waistcoat (straitjacket for you sorry lot below the border). But I'm aware I'm here bordering on an existing and vast debate about what music theory is or should and shouldn't be. best, bert

Hey Rob, Lovely that you decided to listen to Kind of Blue. Wanted to mention it, but couldn't for the life of me remember what it's called. Funny how appreciation goes: guy I know couldn't get into Bitches Brew, but saw the light after he'd listened to In a Silent Way. Me I couldn't get into In a Silent Way, but saw the light when I'd heard Bitches Brew. Anyway, enjoy and ask away, also about classical. best, bert

Hi Simpleman, Welcome to BC. Loads of info here, and you'll enrich the banter, I'm sure. Nice to read how you decided to take lessons after the previous experience. Lessons is good, m'kay? Enjoy! best, bert
