Welcome, Reaverman, from one who just wanted to punch in a few bass notes in keyboard recordings ... best, bert

Me, I'm sick and tired of towing, but this thread let me see the dark: Two motorhomes/campervans, filled to the rim with gear. Band logo spread over the full size of the sides - half of the logo on each motorhome. Imagine: 20 yards of logo! Motorhome 1 driven by present wife / future ex. Motorhome 2 driven by present lover / future wife. Me practising. Perfec. Seriously though, if I were to gig intensively enough, I'd always take an extra class D amp, and make sure that one of my two cabs could do the job by itself in a rut. Whilst not gigging at all, and merely attempting to learn to play the bass, I still invest in all kinds of amps. Had seven, currently have six, and will end up with one or two as soon as I understand what they do, and I know what I want. best, bert

. Not best in any way, but I've long liked Cor Dekker's solo in Ekseption's "Improvisation":

My Little Bastard with the LB cabs sounds wonderful, wonderful, wonderful. Carefully rounded off top, and far from dull. May not be the most hi-fi thing, but fits everything from Squier CV '51 P to Music Man Bongo. It's also masterful when used with a rock guitar like the Peavey Tracer II. Dunno how it would sound with a Les Paul, but expect it to be grand. As a result, I'm selling my guitar amps now. No need to keep them. Did I say I lurv it? My MAG 410/307W evo II combo IMHO sounded indifferent more than woolly to my ears. It made me enthusiastic the first days I owned it, and from there it alas went downhill. Not saying I'm right or anything - just sharing my personal experience. I liked it best with the Bongo. Did like the EQ section very much, once I got to grips with having to dial relatively much. It was very flexible. I appreciated the compressor. It was often on, in a modest setting. The sub was a funny, slow effect with my attempts at playing bass. Nice on long tones, unusable on short tones. I think the OP's impression of Ashdown knocking going on is incorrect. People have been positive AND negative about just about every brand, including Aguilar, Barefaced and Genz Benz. Even Vanderkley has received some lashing. Ashdown do very many different things, their products are often affordable, and, as far as I can understand, are rather popular. More popular = more people having an opinion. Just my thrupenny. best, bert Edit: Before I get arrested: I'm not saying the Les Paul is not a rock guitar. It is different to a Tracer though.
I have this in my house (sorry about the crap pic)... [...] Although it's apparently called the VS212 though it looks identical to the CL range.
Ah! Thanks for posting! Now I get it. See, the LB range was succeeded by a whopping two different new ranges: The CL range is the successor of the LB range with bigger configurations. As far as I've understood, they are in a different price league than the VSs, and are built in England. However, I don't think any of them come with neodymium magnets. The VS range is or was the newish, cheaper and heavier successor of the LB range - IMS with smaller cabs. The LBs had been built in England, and spawned neodymium magnets. The VS is built in China and has trad magnets. Mind you, the LBs were a lot heavier than Ashdown claimed, so the weight difference is not that much in real life. Yeah, I'm sure the VS-212 is a great cab. Reportedly, they sound quite like the LBs - which is a good thing in my book. (Me personally, I'm not looking though, as I got hold of the very last LBs that I could find in the UK - after several sleepless nights of intense searching. I searched not for the sound but for the lack of kilos, as I have back poblems.) Indeed, a lot has changed on the Ashdown website after the update, and my uninformed impression is that some products have vanished from there that are still available. best, bert -

As far as I'm aware, Ashdown's CL range is their high quality, British built series that spawn the same type of classic sound as the defunkt LB series (Little Bastard). The defunkt LB-212 got fantastic reviews, but was only made in a limited number. I didn't think the CL series comes in a 212 format, but I may be wrong. I personally love the LB and its carefully rounded but not dull sound, but can't compare it to the Ampegs. Have tested it with Ashdown valve, Orange hybrid and Promethean discrete amps, and think it works wonderfully, but can not be specific about the CL-410/414h - - merely expect that they will be in the same league and of the same type of sound. If correct, maybe it might also partly explain the seeming lack of interest in reviewing them. The LBs did get reviews. Also, the CLs are very new (IMS a few months old only) and probably still have a limited user base only. best, bert -
I think I was well within my rights to kick off at having my actual character questioned to the point of slander though (And by a moderator..Oh the irony....) But onwards and upwards, all water under the bridge.
Water under the bridge, eh? Is that why the thread title clearly suggests Kiwi is not lovely? Is that why you feel the need to repeat your oversensitive response to an interwebs remark? Is that why you feel the need to use constructs like "well within my rights" and "to the point of slander"? Well, I don't buy it. You could simply have said: "Kiwi, mate, I don't know what happened, but as far as I can remember, I've never done what you think I've done." We all know what you opted for instead. The pressure on Kiwi must have been enormous. Myself having been on the receiving end of similar, potentially income threatening remarks, I surely think I understand your feelings. They can however be dealt with in vastly better ways. best, bert

Oh, no! Another newb! Download times are augmenting excrutiatingly, recently. We really must do away with a few thousands unused accounts soon. Anyway, Welcome, colonel. I'll have an Islay. Cheers! Enjoy the site. Read a lot and ask a lot, and knowledge will be sent you way. best, bert

Hey Robin, Welcome back and welcome! Your etikit is fine, as is your basskit. No worries. Now join the banter and the occasional info exchange, and enjoy it. best, bert

Leen, you're OK. It's not that you lack intellectual capacity, but just that you lack old age. Us old ones can still remember when the radio DJ announced the first proto punk songs as The New Wave in British Music, and we were longneckedly looking out for Punk Proper to emerge from Proto Punk's future ashes. I guess one had to be there. b, b
Oh and how long before Marcus decides he fancies a Rickenbacker instead? or a Modulus, GB, Status, Fender etc etc
I'm quite disappointed that you would ask a tasteless and inconsiderate question like that, when everybody knows it's on Tuesday. b, b

Oooow. You are soooo seling that to me, and I'm officially a burst hater. Are you aware of the Date of Birth thread on the EBMM forum? http://forums.ernieball.com/music-man-basses/1254-music-man-serial-number-database-520.html#post915684 If you ask nicely they'll not only provide the date, but also the configuration and where it was sent originally. Enjoy it! best, bert
