Remember though every time you see an Ampeg rig on a large stage its contribution to the overall bass sound both on stage and FoH is pretty negligible. The bass will be DI'd at some point - maybe even before it reaches the amp and unless your stood directly in front of the speakers you'll be hearing more from the monitors than than the amp.
Haha, that not the case when I use them at festivals. I run them LOUD and have them mic'ed, we have our own engineer too who knows my sound well.

Yea, I've gotta say I've tried a fair few different Ampegs and have disliked all of them (for what I do) apart from the bigger ones with 810's. I don't like their little combo's, or their 4x10's or 6x10's. Have played through vintage SVT rigs a few times (and will again at a festival this week) and always love them despite generally disliking 10's. Still prefer the sound of the SVT through my Aguilar GS412's though. Heard Bob Weston playing through an SVT2 and two Ampeg 15's with Shellac and that was lush too.
ok joegarcia will have a think- thanks- just wondered would it be easy to use for live playing- not sure how well you can hit the button- be great for recording etc but Im after it for live stuff thanks
I think it's a great live looper. The buttons are absolutely fine and it has some really intuitive features. The roller volume control you can control with your feet is particularly ingenious.
that would be the one i'd recommend.
I have two of those and they're great. My guitarist has a Diago and I swear they're identical apart from the badge (which is just a sticker anyway). Same markings and everything. I reckon Diago get them from the same far east manufacturer/importer.

My favourite compressor for bass is the same as my favourite compressor for live vocals, snare and most things. DBX 160. Fantastic. They can do pumping or ultra transparent and are really effective when you want them to be. I have two, a 160a for my FOH rack (I'm a sound engineer) and an older 160X in my rig and they're both fantastic. I intend to buy a few more when I can afford them.

Anyone demo the Ashdown Classic Series cabs?
joegarcia replied to bassguppy's topic in Amps and Cabs
Worked with a band a few weeks ago and the bassist had an ABM500 and two classic 410 cabs with a Jaguar. Sounded great, really good. -
Ok, great thanks. I'm away for a couple of days now. Ok to give you a shout on Monday?

If I can persuade you to post I'll totally have it and cover you for any post/packaging costs.

Don't think there's really a cheaper alternative to just buying the cheapest EL34's you can find really. I've just put some Genelex KT77's in my old Laney though and they really are special. Can't wait to burn them in a bit more. Worth the extra. That was just for two though, not sure if I could have afforded six of them.
I don't see a problem with the headstock, but I doubt that's the original scratchplate and the bridge doesn't look at all right to me either. While I'm being picky, I'm not sure about those pickups ... they look a bit odd.
Yea, those were pretty much the only issues I spotted too. Yea, I guess if the scratchplate was a replacement and if those are common aftermarket bridges that pretty much explains it.

This looks normal in every picture apart from the head on one it seems. A weird one, victim to some dodgy 'customizing' or a fake? This sounds great. I'd also be really up for it if it wasn't for the distance. -
Ashdown ABM 810 vs Ashdown MAG 810 vs Marshal MBC 810
joegarcia replied to KASH's topic in Amps and Cabs
Fair enough, but comparing the ABM with the ones I mentioned (or any other 8x10 in the same price range for that matter) are they a good choice? ...I dig the 2x15's too though
Sorry to say I haven't used either of the other two options. I've used an Ampeg 8x10 a few times but always with an SVT not my amp (at festivals etc) so couldn't really comment I'm afraid. Sorry to be so unhelpful. Basically, if you want an 8x10 I could fairly happily recommend the ABM810 for price they seem to be going for secondhand at the moment. I'd personally avoid the Mag purely coz it's ugly. The Marshall is worth investigating I reckon. The VBC-810 is good so could imagine the newer one being decent too. Cheap too. -

joegarcia replied to KASH's topic in Amps and Cabs
I don't really like it that much to be honest but I don't really like 8x10's anymore. It's loud and fairly deep but I don't really like the sound. I'm spoilt with my Aguilars really. I can't imagine ever being happier with other cabs. They are huge sounding, rounded, fat, stupendously deep and low and unbelievably loud. I have a 1200w amp which I drive hard with lots of abusive effects and they are the only cabs I've never managed to bottom out and fart. They've completely turned me off 10's and the ABM810 now belongs to Incarnate. I should update my sig really. -
+1000000 to that
Er, yea, I'm sure they're really really great but they're a lot more money than all the other cabs he's looking at. -
personally I don't like the feel of oiled wood.
Thats not what I heard. Sorry.

I downtune to A through my Aguilar GS412's and they love it. Sooo deep.
