1. Might be interested in the router when I have some cash. Not sure exactly how it does all that with just three switches though. To clarify, does the one on the right switch between two inputs? Does the middle one switch the loop on? Does the left one do A/B out? How do you do a Y out? I have something similar but with four outs, a loop and feedback loop but it's a fair bit bigger and I only need an A/B/Y really. Hmmm...
2. Admittedly I haven't tried the DB810 myself but have heard it in action up close (and mic'ed up, I was doing the sound) and was not overly impressed. The last time I heard one it was being pushed really hard with an Orange AD200B and it was farting out, come to think of it, maybe he'd actually blown a driver. It probably is better than the Ashdown and Ampeg though which I have used, but I don't like them much either in comparison to the GS412. Edit: I helped load the DB810 in too and it was the heaviest bass cab I'd ever moved. Felt awkward and cumbersome even tilted back on it's wheels. Should say, they were probably the loudest band I've ever worked with. Truly ridiculous. Awesome though. Also, just read that the DB810 is 184lbs!
3. The Aguilar DB810 is 148lbs or something ridiculous. I much prefer the GS412 over the DB810, SVT810E and ABM810. More balls and low end. Much more natural and rounder to my ears too. Killer cabs. Got both of mine for between £500-£600 used each but you can get them new for less than a new SVT810E. Slightly smaller and lighter too and much easier to move around. I really, really can't recommend them enough, I'm always banging on about them on here. They just handle anything and do whatever you want, they're the only cab I haven't managed to make fart out with my Sunn 1200s.
4.
sounding good so far, i'm guessing you're looking to add more people to it?
Ta, some kinda percussion probably. Looking for someone who can play kettle drums or tympani.
5. I'll take it off your hands! I have a feeling they go for silly amounts though.
6.
it won't damage it, although it would probably make sense to use an active crossover before the power amp, as reproducing the higher frequencies will only expend power that could be driving the lower frequencies -- however, unless you're running the amp right on the edge, it probably won't make a huge difference. a good 18 could probably make that cab work for you pretty well. Something like this maybe.
Haha. I suggested that PD driver to him months ago! Thanks for backing me up. I know it's not technically perfect but it's the right compromise between sound and aesthetics in this case.
7. Matamp 300 and Mesa 2x15. Sorted.
8. Someone's asked him if it's wired out of phase and he replied saying no. Oh dear.
9. Try and experiment before with a mic and some headphones or something to find out what suits your cab best and what gets the desired sound. Generally I will stick it on the edge of the centre dust cap or sometimes on the very edge of the cone.
10. Interested to know what BFM or Alex Claber reckon to this! 11.
Genius! A power amp in a pedal. Has anyone thought of that before? I mean, for that size
That is indeed pretty amazing. Wonder what it sounds like. That POG2 looks cool too.
12. Good quality passive DI just before the amp (just for low end) and the SM57 (for mids and highs). I'm a live engineer and this is what I do regularly. attackbass has a good point though. If you are working with unfamiliar or even incompetent engineers (there are plenty of them working the toilet circuit) then something like a Sansamp or Tone Hammer will be a good investment. If you play decent venues or have your own engineer who knows your sound, or both then go for the mic and DI route.
13.
Allparts UK also distribute Mojo so the Ampeg range is available via them - not likely to be 'on the shelf' however - delivery around 14 days. Oops my mistake - website says it IS in stock.
Great, thanks. That site seemed to be down yesterday but it has the exact stuff I want, still pricey though!
14. +1. If it's hiss it's bound to be the tweeter turned up. The Ampeg cab should have a three position switch on the back. Switch it to off or -6.
15. Hmmm... Torres do this stuff: Looks pretty close-ish. Think I'd probably be happy enough with it I reckon. I need enough to cover a 4x12 and a 2x15 really so it's gonna work out pretty expensive though.
16. Cool, ta, figured that may be the answer. Still considering Fender or older Mesa Boogie grill cloth that look similar. It's to go on a cab to sit under a 70's V4 as I just missed out on the V4 4x12 on Ebay.
17. Hi there. Does anyone know of anywhere in the UK that sells Ampeg style blue/grey grill cloth? Could get it from fliptops.net but would rather find somewhere in the UK if possible. Any suggestions would be gratefully received. The two UK websites that Google suggested seem to be down. Thanks.
18. I quite like it too actually, despite liking proper Ricks too. Never liked a headless before. It kinda looks so wrong it becomes right, or something. Although I think I like it in spite of it being headless not because of it. reckon it's unlikely to get any bids at that starting price though.
19. Pleasure doing business with you Martin, hope it brings you much valvey joy. Try www.flightcasewarehouse.co.uk for the case perhaps. Joe
20. Sunn 1200s. Fantastic amp.
21. Haha, yea, what Mr Foxen said really. Don't need the headroom this has. I use two rigs together, the Sunn for low end and headroom and I'm gonna get an Ampeg V4 (100w) to drive hard alongside the Sunn.
22. Personally I'd go for an Aggie 2x12 or 1x15.
23. This is the newer model with four KT88's which fixed the biasing issue the older one apparently had. The preamp valves have been upgraded to EHX Cryo ones. Sounds amazing, versatile and fat. Really sturdily built and surprisingly light for a valve amp of this pedigree. Proper pics to come soon. Features: 200 watt All-Tube Bass Amplifier 4x KT88 power tubes, 2x 12AX7A and 1x 12AU7 preamp tubes 3-band Master EQ with Range Control Innovative Scoop and Resonance Controls 1/4-inch Tuner Output with System Mute Switch Switchable Pre/Post XLR D.I. Out with Ground Lift & 20dB Pad 4 or 8 ohm selectable speaker outputs More details: http://www.traynoramps.com/products.asp?id...t=40&type=5 These amps are very rare over here as hardly any are exported, this is a US model so needs a stepdown transformer to use it over here. These are easily found on Ebay or in Maplins for about £30. It's in very good condition apart from a few scuffs on the metal corners. You're most welcome to come and try it out at our rehearsal space in Bristol where you will have the choice of an Aguilar GS412 or an Ashdown ABM810 or your own cab. £460 plus Paypal, bank transfer or cheque is fine though. Would prefer collection from Bristol but postage could probably be arranged. SOLD
