Burman Pro 4000 valve bass head
joegarcia replied to pete.young's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
Couldn't believe this went so cheap (£205) - if it hadn't been the other side of the country I'd have had it in a heartbeat Mind you, got enough valve amps in various states of decrepitude.....
OMFG!! £205! So annoyed I am broke. Sooooo annoyed. ARGH! Been after one of these for ages.. -
Yup, +1 on the johhnyshredfreak power supplies. I compared it to my guitarists Diago and it was completely identical apart from the Diago sticker. I have two and they're great.
-
I've said it before and I'll say it again but those Diago boards are a rip off in my opinion. They are made of chip board with cheap parts with a ridiculous mark up. Any board made 'specifically' for pedalboards seem to have an obscene mark up. Best bet I think is to get a small mixer case or turntable case or something and modify it slightly or if you don;t need a full flightcase type one built it yourself. Alternatively, the Spider Engineering ones are well made and warrant their price I think.

Yikes, sorry to hear that! The parking around here is a nightmare. I'm sure firing it up tonight will put a smile back on your face.

The GT200 only does 4 and 8 ohms. 4x 2x10's would have to be 16ohm each for him to be able to use them all together at 4 ohms, so you couldn't use one by itself anyway. Think 2x 410's makes the most sense. Looking great by the way!

When a sound engineer is plugging a DI into your amp, they are plugging your bass into the DI input and using the 'link' output of the DI to feed your amp. This is taking a feed to the desk before any processing done on your amp, just the clean signal. The line out should be post preamp as it will need to be boosted to line level. Generally if you are using this to feed a PA, a DI box is the best way to do it. It should then provide a good strong signal with a minimal amount of noise. Some amps line outs will be better than others, haven't used the line out from a Bassman 135 before but guess it's a case of experimenting. Edit: I should say I have had good results using the line out from a 70's SVT into a DI box. Sorry if it's obvious but make sure you never run the amp without a speaker attached too as you could damage the transformers in the amp which are usually expensive to repair..

Not using these at the moment so offering them up for trade for other FX. Pearl CH-02 Chorus (Temporary image courtesy of Google) Really really nice chorus with depth, mix, speed and tone controls. Check reviews here: http://reviews.harmony-central.com/reviews...Pearl/CH02/10/1 Digitech Bad Monkey (Temporary image courtesy of Google) Great little overdrive or distortion with gain, treble, bass and volume controls. Very usable and versatile but there are also lots of mods available for it to bring it up to boutique standards. Might have a Pearl Flanger to go too but a mate has it at the moment so will see if he wants it first. Particularly after a Marshall Reflector or other decent reverb pedals or whatever really, try me. Not after Boss distortions or multieffects though. Pics to come shortly...

Selling my EMG P-Bass set. Will swap for a Wizard Thumper or Stealth or whatever but otherwise cash is good. It's a fairly old set I think but still sounds amazing. If it wasn't twice as loud as the pickups in my Jazz I'd keep it. Will sell it fully wired with the jack and pots so you can drop it straight in, piece of cake. Pics shortly. Not sure what these tend to go for secondhand (found them for £78 new) so will tentatively say £55 posted. SOLD

Burman Pro 4000 valve bass head
joegarcia replied to pete.young's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
You have the GPA and power pak set up? Oh now I'm jealous. I think we need to see some pics and maybe a separate thread if more people have Burman stuff.
Yup, when I pay back Mr Foxen I'll have a GPA preamp, an MPA preamp and two SL100 100w power units. The GPA is a little crackly at the moment and could use a revalve soon but they sound great. Wanna get some KT77's in them when I can afford it. Will get some pics up at some point too. -

Argh! Been after one of these for ages and I'm broke right now. Someone buy my Music Man Sabre so I can buy this and pay back Mr Foxen for the two other Burmans I bought the other week. :-) -

Haha, I use two amps for different fx so need two of whatever I'm using. Definitely extremely loud too.
It would just be SO big! And total overkill for almost anyone. However I have considered a cab with 2 x 3012LFs plus mid and optional tweeter in a Vintage sized/shape box - the size is just right. I really need to find someone who actually reaches the limit of the Big One on a gig though, it seems we're a long way from that happening with current users. Looking forward to Dood's test-run! Alex
Errr... hello. I would be extremely interested in trying some monster Barefaced cabs and very much suspect that at my gig volumes I would need something bigger than a Big One. Having just tried the Compact briefly I'd be potentially interested in a pair of something pure evil and ridiculous at some point.
Compact handed over to Mr Foxen in deepest Bristol last night...anyone else interested in the Bristol area get in touch with him quickly before he "melts it" his words, not mine! It might be too late already, of course. BB
Haha. Not if I melt it first! (JOKE) So I got back late from work last night to find the Compact in my (and Mr. Foxen's) hallway. He's at work now and I couldn't help myself, had to give it a cheeky bash. I've been practicing at home recently with a 100w EL34 driven Burman (MPA preamp and SL100 powerpack) and a 500w Marshall JCM 800 2x15. Instantly I could see that the Compact handles everything much better than the Marshall. It's louder and lower and just generally sounds more confident, like it's challenging me to really push it. Very much initial impressions after 30 mins of play, but with one of Mr Foxens Franken P's, his old 'Storm' distortion and his Bass Exciter (I do have my own stuff here too, haha) it really sounds fantastic. Loads of low end when wanted and really fat and chunky, especially with the Aphex (I like a lot of low and the Burman has simple passive EQ without too much bass boost). We are lucky that we live next to a noisy venue so we can make a fair bit of noise, gotta be one of the loudest I've played here just now. After 30 mins of fun with the Compact I plugged the Marshall 2x15 in with the same settings and it farted and rattled and generally just didn't remotely compare. Can't believe how good this thing is, then you consider the size and weight. It's a bit silly really. Gagging to try a Vintage (or two) at gig volume now! Or somehow do a comparison with my GS412's.
